Wearing a lab coat improved test scores in kids and adults in one study. The speaker uses this to argue that adopting an alter ego, like pretending to be someone else, can unlock better performance in business and life.
There was a scientific study where they took a bunch of kids and had them take a test. You see, one group of kids, they had to take the test wearing a lab trench coat. And then they had another group of kids taking the same exact test, but without a trench coat, just wearing their normal school clothes. And not only did they see an improvement of the kids that were wearing a trench coat, they saw a huge improvement. And then here's where it gets crazy is they did the exact same test, but with adults. They had adults wear the trench coat, and then they had adults wear their normal clothes. And what they found is the same thing, the same results for the kids that took a test, got results. The adults did as well. And you see, the thing about our brains is we are very good at playing pretend. And you see a lot of the people that are the most successful in this world are people that are just playing pretend. You see, this person that is recording this video right now isn't Devin Canuck. Devin is not capable of doing any of the stuff that he does. He's not good at business. He doesn't know how to make money. He's not really any sort of successful business person. But. But in fact, I can pretend to be somebody who's really good at talking, at doing business deals.
