Donald Burns (speaker) recommends using a Core Value / Core Value mission card as a powerful but underused tool for shaping team culture. He prescribes a daily practice called the "daily five sermon": each day discuss (1) your mission, (2) your core values, (3) your vision, (4) your standards, (5) your expectations, and add words of appreciation/affirmation to reinforce culture and team alignment.
You probably hear me talk about this a lot on the calls is that the Core Value Card. The Core Value mission card that we create is probably the most powerful tool everyone has yet. It's also the tool that most people don't use enough either. Everyone could use the card a little bit more with their team on a daily basis. One of the things we preach is this daily five sermon that there's five things you should talk about every day with your team. Talk about your mission, your core values, your vision, your standards, your expectations, and then words of appreciation, affirmation.
If your restaurant only works because you work 80 hours a week, it doesn't work.
