This excerpt argues that organizational culture begins with leadership and a clearly articulated purpose — the speaker calls this purpose-driven identity “why Dentity” (why identity). The speaker outlines core questions leaders must answer: why the business exists, who it serves, what distinguishes it, where it should go, and how it will grow; followers and culture follow from a defined identity.\n
Chapters
Talk about culture. This book, I have like a couple big, huge chapters, all in culture. And this is in my new book, Ingredients, Man. I mean, I could say I could talk about culture for five hours straight. I could give crazy cool examples. I could give you so much. But it all starts with leadership. And leadership. When we talk about why. I have this concept called why Dentity. Nobody gives about your identity, how you identify. They want to know why you identify the way you do. So the why you identify how you do is what we call why identity. And that's it's. It's a really critical question to ask. The outline of it is basically why dentity defines the leadership foundation, right? So you have to talk about the why. Why was the business built? Who. Who was the business intended for? What does it offer that others don't? When we talk about point of distinction, you're right. There's a lot of average restaurants out there. Where do you want the business to go? If you don't start with the end in mind, you. You're just on a crazy wayward journey. When will the business grow and then how will it grow? I mean, kind of having a plan, having a foundational plan. I guess the antecedent to leader is the followers, right? So you can't lead without followers, and you can't gain followers without having a defined identity.
