A short YouTube video (by Donald Burns) in which a speaker answers a question about self-care. The speaker emphasizes movement/exercise, quality time with family (son), and learning to take mental timeouts—canceling events or stepping back—to protect energy while leading teams. They note anxiety from managing multiple responsibilities and building another location over the prior 12 months, and that pausing is a learned skill when moving from one to multiple teams/cafes.

What do you do to take care of yourself? You have to really focus on self care because you can't really pour from like an empty cup, right? And so like I try to focus on movement, which is really healthy for me because I do have also a lot of anxiety from doing all the things that I do. And so movement, getting to the gym, quality time with my son. And really specifically in the last like 12 months while building another location and it was like a lot chaotic for me is learning when to step back and just sort of reset and just having quiet time. I think would might be my most successful self care at this point. I've always been a workout person. Working out is just a part of my lifestyle. But really learning to master a mental timeout and whether that means you cancel on activities events. I was notorious for unfortunately canceling on friends a lot the last six months. And I just really needed to learn what that looked like just to, you know, protect your energy, especially when you need to lead teams. And it's one thing to go from one team to two teams at two cafes. So recognizing that pausing more is a skill set that takes a lot to learn. Very cool, Very cool.
