Donald Burns, a restaurant coach with 17 years of experience, talks about a client who spent two months resisting his advice to delegate recipes and hire a kitchen manager before finally seeing he was right. Burns says breakthroughs happen on their own timeline, sometimes in weeks, sometimes in a year.
I got a text message this morning from a. From a client. This is a client that doesn't want to give her recipes away, doesn't trust.
Anybody, doesn't.
Want to hire a kitchen manager. She's like, I have high blood pressure. I have to go to the doctor. And she's super stressed out. And I've been telling her, we need to hire a kitchen manager. And we're actually in the middle of finding her a kitchen manager. And she said, it took me two months to realize this, and thank you for letting me do this. Those are a text message. Two months to realize. And I'm, like, done this.
17 years now, and I've coached over 3,000 restaurants. I'll tell you, a lot of people say, how long until I kind of have that breakthrough? How long till I finally make the turn on that corner and I start seeing things as. There's no set rhythm or rhyme? I've had people in two weeks. Oh, my God. And just have this epiphany in the breakthrough. I've had people in the program eight months, a year, you know, and then they finally, like, the light flips on, and they finally. Now I get it. Yeah. There's no set pattern. It all depends on you.
