A short conversational segment from a YouTube video (host Donald Burns) about how world travel expands consciousness and teaches gratitude—particularly for children. The guest describes a travel rule (don’t repeat destinations except cruises), recounts an impromptu trip to Colombia, and notes how seeing local living standards and currency differences helped her son Alex feel grateful and understand economic disparities.
One of the things I'm proud of you to do, I think it's a beautiful thing, too, is I always say world travel expands your consciousness, expands your mind, and lets you see things and also let you appreciate things that you might take for granted that other people in other countries. I mean, for them, that's like. That would be like a luxury, like having water sometimes, you know, having a toilet inside is like a luxury. So I'm always impressed how you always take them on trips to different countries.
So we have one rule, other than cruise boats, because we also enjoy cruises, that wherever we go, we won't repeat the same place. So we will, like. I. My goal is, as long as he's under my wing, to show him as much as everything that I can show my son, you know, and most recently, we took an impromptu trip to Columbia and love Columbia. It was so cool, Donald. But I think, you know, the takeaway also was my son was so thankful and expressed so much thankfulness and just really understanding, you know, some of these people. They're not even making $10 a day. A day, you know, and we're not talking about children. We're talking about grown adults. And I think, you know, because there was a significant ratio difference from, you know, Colombian pesos to the dol. And Alex really now is at the age where he's older and he can understand what that translates to and lifestyle and et cetera. So to see Columbia through his eyes and his thoughts this time was, like, very interesting for me.
