A brief coaching-minute by Donald Burns advising restaurant leaders that core values cannot merely be posted or briefly mentioned; they must be actively lived and discussed daily so the team shares precise, unified definitions (e.g., for 'trust') to create a solid, consistent brand message and become outstanding in the market.

Hey, Donald Burns with a restaurant Coach Minute. So you have a great list of core values for your brand. Maybe. Maybe you put them up on a poster that hangs where everyone can see them. Or maybe they're just in your employee handbook that you kind of go over when they're first hired. The problem is that core values cannot just be written down or talked about once or twice. They need to be lived and they need to be discussed daily by you. The the leader. Have you ever had a talk with your team about each of those core values on that list and what it means to you and your brand? You see, people often have their own definition for words, and we assume that they are using the same meaning and same definition that we have. Nothing could be farther from the truth. You might be a little shocked. If you took a common word like trust and went around the room and asked each member on your team what it means, they might be close to your definition. However, close is not good enough in today's market. Your brand needs to be solid with what core values define you. When your brand message becomes unified, then you will become unstoppable in your market and you will reach that rare place of becoming outstanding.
