Wanted to be a cop. Ended up protecting standards instead.

Speaker B wanted to be a cop but ended up in standards work instead. He argues most police are good people, but media fixates on bad apples. He once tried launching a happy news station that flopped because audiences don't tune in for good news.

Yeah, so like when you were a little kid, what'd you think? What'd you want to be? I know you didn't want to go like, hey, you know, like you're like, here's like little Nick, like he's 6 years old, it's like someday I'm gonna have a meal prep company. What'd you want to be when you're a little kid?
I wanted to be, um, that's a good question actually. I wanted to be, uh, a cop. Yeah, yeah, when I was younger.
Because I can see you being a cop and I can see you also pistol whipping people though. Yeah, you could have been a cop like back in the '70s. Yeah, you could get away with like, what'd you say to me?
Yeah, like, cops get like a bad rap, you know. I think they get a horrible rap. Yeah, I, I think they're— I think a lot of them are really good people. I think, you know, there's definitely some bad apples in the mix.
Would you like anything?
I would—
I believe this in general. I believe people in general are good. Yeah, bad people just get better press.
Yes, exactly.
Well, because yeah, because, because the media gravitates to that, that doom and gloom kind of, you know, for sure. They want to keep you like in that kind of like, oh, the world's going to hell, everybody's like, everybody's in the bad people.
No, they tried to do like a happy news station, I think, like years ago. Like it was like, I didn't— it failed, failed miserably within like a couple months.
Nobody wanted it.
Yeah, yeah, there were no viewers, you know.
Yeah.
Um, but, you know, I, I think like helping, helping people, you know, I, and I, I do agree with you. I think most people, I think a lot of people are good. We agree on a lot of the same, um, same stuff, like in general. Like we want to live, you know, we want to live a really good, safe life. We want to provide for our families. Um, and, you know, we want to be successful and, and make money. Right, I think, you know, there are really good people out there and I, you know, a cop is, yeah, I think it'd be cool to like drive in the cop car and just like pull people over, you know, kind of like scare people like, "Oh, you're going 90 in a 60." Like, I think that'd be like fun to do for like a couple days.
