In this 10‑minute guided meditation, Dr. Thompson leads listeners through a structured breath‑work sequence that anchors attention, then invites a visual dialogue between the listener’s younger self and older self. The practice uses a calm ocean shoreline setting to help participants locate and name emotions within the body, listen to the messages each feeling offers, and respond with self‑compassion. After a full body scan, listeners are guided to step into waist‑deep water, symbolically integrating the insights from both selves and the emotions they have explored, culminating in a choice to move forward with learned wisdom and healing.

Begin with breath. Inhale for 4 counts through the spine, through the vagus nerve. 4, 3, 2, 1. Hold, hold at your heart for 7 counts. 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Exhale for 8 counts through the gut. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Repeat this as needed. After your 8-count, allow a cleansing breath. Let your breath anchor you in this moment. Notice your youngest self. Allow yourself to notice your young self. When you do, simply nod your head, noticing. Your young self may be lonely, confused, angry, sad, or full of hope, wisdom, creativity, and laughter. Simply notice your younger self, accepting the presence and inviting your younger self to share and comment. What do you notice? What is your younger self sharing with you now? Take a cleansing breath, accepting and receiving the message. Now notice your future self. Your future self at your oldest age, 80 or 90. Notice your oldest self and invite a comment. Notice the facial expression of your older self. You may see kindness, love, wisdom, encouragement, or you may see discipline. You may see advice. Notice and receive the message. Inhale, take a cleansing breath. And now notice the interaction between your younger self, your older self. You might notice that they are kind to one another, that the older self is showing love, or you may notice some distance between them. Simply notice and observe. Now notice yourself. You're beside a cool, calm ocean, right at the shore, and allow all the intense experiences that you've been living through to rise and fall with the waves and settle at the shore. Notice your emotions. You might have been experiencing fear, Sadness, anger, grief, shame, overwhelm. Simply notice where each emotion is in your body. Notice the presence of each in turn. You might notice fear in your belly or sadness in your shoulders. Wherever you locate the emotion, simply sit with the emotion and accept it. Accept its presence. Take a cleansing breath and consider the message that each emotion has for you. Receive your gift. What do you hear the emotion saying to you about you? Notice the message and simply accept it. Notice your body still near the water. Your feet touching the water. Feel the sensation of the water as your body interacts with the ocean and gently glance over at the interaction between your older self and your younger self. Notice what's happening and accept and acknowledge it. Taking a cleansing breath, gently scan your body from head toe. Notice the emotions present and try again to listen. Listen in turn to each emotion. What message does the emotion have for you about you? Listen deeply with compassion to each message. You might hear anger say, I've been trying to protect you. You might hear shame I just need you to be loved. Listen to the message and accept each message in turn. Take a cleansing breath and receive the gift of wisdom that you are being gifted. There is wisdom in every feeling. As you listen, you are healing. Listen with self-compassion. Listen with curiosity. Simply listen. Take a breath now and sit with yourself for 30 seconds, simply connecting to the music, noticing your body, noticing the emotion, and connecting with yourself. Now Take a gentle step into the water, settle waist deep, and allow yourself to experience the release and the return of calm. Take a gentle breath. Sense the message that your younger self wants you to carry from this experience, and notice the message that your future self wants you to carry from this experience as well. Choose your path, unafraid of your experiences, learning from each, choosing to heal, choosing to learn.
