A short recorded conversation between a client and filmmaker (Eric) in which the client asks for the project's raw footage after receiving the final edited video. The filmmaker explains raw footage is not part of the paid deliverables, offers an analogy (restaurant/ingredients), and proposes sending a licensing quote if the client wants to purchase the raw files. The client will consult their team and follow up.
Hey, Eric. So video turned out great. Just quick favor, do you mind sending over the raw footage as well?
What do you mean, the raw footage?
Just so we have everything along with, like, the final video that you had sent. Just wondering if we could get those files as well.
Oh, okay. I totally get it. So just to clarify, are you looking to purchase the raw files for additional use, or was that what you were looking for?
What do you mean purchase? We paid the invoice last week.
Yeah, so the raw footage isn't included in the final deliverables, but I can send you over a licensing quote if you need that.
Oh, I just thought it was part of the package.
No, so what you paid for was the final edited product. So the best way to think about this is like, raw files are like the ingredients. And so restaurants, obviously, if you go to a restaurant, you buy a dinner, they don't give you a bag of groceries when you leave. So it's the same thing here. Like, we don't give you a bag of groceries after making your meal like a restaurant, we don't give you your RAW files after we're done creating the content. Does that make sense?
Yeah, no, that makes sense.
Okay, so let me know if you need them, though. I can send you the licensing pack, like the licensing pricing, if you want to purchase that additionally.
Gotcha. Yeah, let me. Let me talk to the team and see if it's something that would be interesting. I'll let you know.
