Do I Need To Have The Best Video Work To Run A Successful Video Agency?

YouTube video (case study) where Eric Deeran explains that photographers or those inexperienced in video can run a successful video agency by hiring skilled videographers/editors, focusing on offer creation, sales processes, and lead-gen systems. The video spotlights Tori, a former photographer who closed two $45,000 retainer deals (total ~$90,000) after implementing packageized video retainers, sales systematization, and CRM/lead-gen improvements.

Does this system work for photographers or people who are not super experienced in video? Today's YouTube video, I'm going to be breaking down one of our clients who's closed over $90,000 in just the past couple of months working with us. And she had literally no experience in video prior to starting with us. And I think it's super interesting because you don't have to understand how to shoot really amazing video or have the best work to build a successful video business. And Tori here is a perfect example of somebody who, who didn't have that experience. She was mainly a photographer, and we're going to break down her story, her journey, and some of the things we did with her specifically to help her grow and get more clients and close that 90k. So let's go ahead and jump over to the iPad. This is Tori here. She is mainly a photographer and she actually delayed starting with us back in October because she thought she needed to work through learning video. And we simply talked to her and said, hey, you could just hire a really experienced video or videographer or video editor person to handle the video, and then you can just focus on closing the deals and then communicate the types of videos you want this person to create. It's a really good example of, like, to grow a business, you don't need to actually understand anything other than hiring top talent and understanding how to hire and recruit and retain top talent. So Tori's a really good example of this. You could see this is the first case study I recorded with her right here. I think it was a couple months ago. And. And then over here, she actually just closed yesterday, her second 45k client, which equals a total of $90,000. Since working with us, we're super proud of Tori. But I think the more interesting thing here, outside of just the money, is the fact that Tori had no experience in this. And we simply showed her how to attract clients, how to reprice and repitch her offers, and how to actually include videos into those offers. So I'm going to dive in. Really what we did, and the main thing we worked on first with Tori was what we call offer creation. And so previously, Tori was mainly just doing photography and she was just offering photography to her clients. But that in and of itself wasn't a super valuable thing for her clients. They wanted more content, they wanted ads, they wanted brand videos, they wanted testimonial videos, and they needed more substance to the actual content they were getting with her. So we said, hey, Tori, why don't we add video packages here and why don't we put those into a retainer? And so that retainer was the 45k for six months, and that included social content, branded content, ads, and a couple of other things. But that was the main offering she was doing and she was pitching to her clients. And we said, okay, here's the offer, here's what we're going to pitch. Now let's work on actually systematizing your sales process. And so we helped her actually build out a sales process from taking someone from A to B so, so they could understand what the pain point is and what that gap is in the middle. And then talk. We talk. We talked through with Tori how she could help them fill that gap of how her service is gonna help them get from A to B. So if the. If the company wanted to add a couple hundred thousand dollars a month in revenue, we were talking her through how to explain to the client how the videos would have an impact on the revenue that they were driving in the business. So we were focusing on more of an ROI when we were pitching this, and then that's how she was able to close these two deals so far. And then the third thing we're working on with her right now is a CRM plus lead gen. And so we're now working on adding in additional lead gen, adding in additional leads that are coming in, adding in additional processes and systems in place to nurture those leads. So now she can start to build a conveyor belt of leads that are coming in, that are interested in booking on her calendar and interested in working with her so she can continue to close these $45,000 deals and scale to multiple millions of dollars in revenue. Now, if you want to learn more about Tori's actual story, you can just watch this case study that I have on our YouTube video, this YouTube video that I have on our website here. You can go check that out. But I'm going to play a short voice note from Tori so you can learn a little bit more about some of the things that she thought through when she joined the program and some of the things that she added to her services that she feels like are immensely more valuable.
And I will say to them, I wish I had jumped earlier because I had. I started these conversations with you guys last October, but I wish I had done it Sooner because literally two weeks after signing, signing, I. I booked my first $45,000 client. I just booked another $45,000 client yesterday. So, like, you want to talk about paying for itself, it's. I invest in a lot of coaching and education. And this has by far been the most lucrative. And all of the things that I'm learning, I'm going to be able to turn around and teach and use in my business and teach to my clients. Like, not teach to my clients, but like the whole running ads, I'm learning them for my business. I'm going to be able to sell that as a feature for me. So, like it that this is going to be crazy. The other thing is being a female in the space, I think is a unique opportunity. And then the third thing is, like, I'm not strong in video. Like, that's not where I, you know, I was intimidated to come in. And that's what pushed me at first, not booking in October because I'm not strong in video. I. My background's photography, and I'm great at being a visionary. And what I've learned very quickly in this is like, it is better for me to just hire the people who are experts. So her having this other background is not going to deter her. It's going to be an asset. It's going to allow her to step into a CEO role and run a very profitable agency instead of just hustling.
So hopefully that was insightful. And hopefully this gives you some ideas as to if you're a photographer, if you don't offer video or if you're. If you're uncertain about your video skills and you're like, I don't know if I should join or I don't know if I should. I should go all in on my business. I. Tory is a really good example of somebody who wasn't good at the video side. Like, you don't have to be the best graphic designer. You don't have to be the best videographer. You don't have to be the best video editor. You just have to know. And this is something we help our clients with, how to hire those people. You need to learn how to sell, how to sell more deals, how to sell more jobs, how to grow the revenue of the business. Because when you can make more money in the business, you can then hire out people because you now have the money to hire the best people. So hopefully that makes sense. Hopefully that gives you a little bit of insight.
