How Todd Revamped His Sales Process

Todd of Gray Wing Media, which makes brand videos for corporate clients, credits a coaching program with transforming his sales approach. He learned to prioritize client outcomes over aesthetics, ask better discovery questions, and run ads more effectively. Two years in, he says an initial call with the program offers free, actionable advice.

What's going on, guys? I'm here with one of our clients, Todd, and today we just kind of go over your experience with us and how you feel like you've gained more confidence in the sales process and what's going on. Todd, how are you, man?
Yeah, I'm doing well. You know, I'm, I'm appreciate your time. Happy to talk with you for your program and then of course, rep, master filmmaker. You know, why not, don't we for.
Sure, for anyone, I guess, who doesn't really know you or your background, do you mind just giving us a little bit of background on you and Gray Wing Media, what you guys do?
Yeah, yeah. So I launched Gray wing Media in 2021. We really focus on brand videos and long form content. It's masterclass style video curriculum, definitely geared towards the corporate client. We're not so much the music video, documentary style. We create functional video for sales. You know, we sell results. And so naturally it was a good partnership working with you because you know, you, you guys, a master filmmaker, are fantastic about getting results and being the one to champion those results for clients because that's what they're interested in at the end of the day. Right. I've got a background of extensive production experience. You know, I can rig and light a set to make it look super cinematic and capture something handheld that looks awesome. Clients don't care about that. They want to make more money. They want to use your video assets as the vessel to make more money and reach more people. So absolutely, it's only natural for me to partner with you and learn and invest in my own business using your curriculum. And it's been very successful and I'm always open to promoting you and your program.
Well, I appreciate it, man. I know. How long have you been with us? It's been a couple of years at this point, right?
Yeah, at least over two years. I was probably one of the earlier ones you were onboarded on what was kind of at the right time.
What was kind of the biggest thing that made you look for getting help or joining a program like what was the main thing you were trying to get help with?
For the most part, you know, it's ironic and I know, but that my story is similar to a lot of your other clients. I wanted to figure out a way to do improved outreach. I wanted to figure out a way to improve my outreach on social media and so the social algorithms know that you're great at targeting people that are also looking for that. So I work with you because I saw Your ad. And I was like, yeah, he's speaking directly to me. That's what I need. You know, I need to grow my business. So, you know, your ads worked. And then it was me implementing the same techniques that you use for your ads. Yeah. Running some of my own ads for Gray Wing Media. You know, that was step one. And then really, your, your whole course is like the ultimate blueprint for everything you need to know to start a business. And even those that have been, you know, in, in the field of video marketing and video production, no one should ever assume that they've arrived and they know it all. You know, the first step that I tell people, launching a business is don't act like you, you've got it figured out. You need a coach. Yep. I throw them to you or I say talk with them. Create a mentor.
Yeah. You know, somebody. It doesn't have to be us. It can be, it can be anybody. But I think just like, because I've had, I still have mentors for my own business, it's like, you need someone who's ahead of you, who can kind of shed some light on things that you don't know yet. Which, which I, I'm totally on board with you on that. I know you talked about kind of sales process. How do you feel like your sales process has kind of changed at this point?
Yeah, I mean, I think my simple answer is, is confidence. Um, I naturally am a, a people person, you know. Yep. I love that part of making video content is working with the client directly more so problem solving. I, I, I live for it. It's, it's super fun. To me. If it's not fun to you, you may not be in the right field. You've got to have that thick skin of taking on a problem and figuring out a creative way to implement that for your clients. But, you know, in speaking to the sales process, like I said, I think it's confidence. I think probably the biggest change is I just talked too much in the beginning.
Yeah.
What I've learned from you is to ask questions. Ask questions, ask questions, solve that problem with the client. Ask them guided questions that you probably know the answer to, but you're trying.
To get them to understand that themselves.
Yeah, I think one of the biggest psychological process.
Absolutely. I think one of the biggest things that we talked about, too, is like, you were kind of in the mode, a little bit of like, selling the video, not the result of the video. And you said it yourself when you, in the beginning of this, it was like, clients care more about the outcome of the video. Not to be like, woo, I have a video. And I think a lot of us, like, as creatives, we love how amazing the content looks, but at the end of the day, it has to be useful to the client, you know, and they have to be able to make money off of it in some way, shape or form.
So that's exactly it. That's again, that's why I say I create functional video with me and my business. It looks great already because I'm good.
At what I do.
But we're also very intentional about the copywriting and scripting and branding and conveying the message that's ultimately going to bring in more dollars because that's what clients want, right?
Absolutely, man, Absolutely. And I guess, like, kind of a weird question, but if. If anyone was maybe on the fence about even just booking a call or, you know, speaking with us to see if this was the right fit, what kind of advice would you give them?
I vividly remember the first time talking with you. Just our conversation was like, oh my gosh, this guy gets it. Like, you even kind of gave me little morsels of knowledge that I'm still forever grateful for in our onboarding call of like the discovery call, you know, like, I. I paid you $0 at this point, and I'm still gaining knowledge and insight that I'm like, I gotta write that down. That's gold, you know, so even just the initial phone call is. Is the right step to make. Cause it just, it's. It's a catalyst to unlocking things, creating awareness, creating more sharper vision for what you need to do for your business. And then it goes without saying, you know, to. To make the leap, make the jump. There's so much knowledge and so much growth that can happen in the active participation of your course.
I appreciate it, Todd. Well, dude, I'm excited to help you continue to scale and appreciate your time today, man.
Yeah, of course.
