I Spend 6 Figures a Month on Ads for 3 Years — Here’s What Actually Works

Eric Deeran spent $4 million on Meta ads over three years and distilled it to three rules: know your customer deeply and interview them, map the different reasons people buy and create ads for each angle, and launch dozens of variations at once to find winners fast.

I've spent over $100,000 a month, every single month for the past three years for my business on ads. And today I'm going to go over the top three lessons that I've learned doing that. And that just sounds crazy to say because I probably could have bought a lot of other stuff for that amount of money, but it's made me so much money, and it's been so profitable for my business. And if Zuckerberg's watching this, you're welcome. So let's go ahead and dive in. The lessons that I'm going to share with you today are lessons that you can apply even if you're only spending $5,000 a month or $2,000 a month or a couple hundred bucks a day. These lessons still apply no matter how much you've spent on ads. Up to this point, we've spent about $4 million on ads for our businesses, and that has been very profitable. It makes us a lot of money. Otherwise, we wouldn't be spending that amount of money on ads. So, couple of lessons. These are the three top lessons that I have taken away and kind of boiled down for you guys. So number one is you have to know your avatar. Too many times people are running ads saying, hey, if you're a business owner or if you're like a video agency or creative agency, you're like, hey, business owners, if you want to get, you know, more video or create video content or whatever, like, that doesn't work anymore because it's not specific enough. It's kind of like the analogy of, like, you're in a crowded restaurant. I always tell this to my clients, like, you're in a crowded restaurant and somebody says, you know, hey, like, nobody really looks around because it's not specific. But if you're in a crowded restaurant and somebody says, hey, Eric, you're gonna be like, oh, hey, who said that? Like, what's going on? And, like, you're gonna. You're gonna raise, you're gonna stand up, you're gonna look for that person. And the reason you're doing that is because it's more specific. And so ads are the. You have to know exactly who that avatar is. And even more than that, I know this is kind of basic for some of you guys watching this if you're already spending a lot of money on ads. But you have to know, what are their wants? What are their desires, what keeps them up at night? What are their, you know, nightmares? What are they scared of? What do they want? What do they run towards? What do they run away from? Like, you need to know that person. So, so, so. Well, because if not, like, you're not gonna have ads that actually resonate with them. Like, if you're talking to home service companies about, I don't know, getting their nails done, it's going to be something that they're not interested in. Whereas, like, if you talk to a home service company, you're like, hey, if you want more jobs, like, that's way more specific than just like some random. Hey, if you're a business owner that wants video, like, so you have to know the avatar. You have to know exactly who you're serving. Like, you need to, like, put yourself in their shoes and know that person. And if you haven't already, like, go interview some people in that space. Like, ask them what they want, what they struggle with, what their problems are, what their pains are. And, like, that's gonna make you a better advertise because you'll actually know how to reach those people and, and, and put a message in front of them. Because really all we're doing with ads is we are guaranteeing that the video that we make or the ad that we make is going to reach that person. And so whether that performs or not is up to how good the actual piece of creative is. And so you have to know your avatar. Like, for me, for master filmmaker, I was a DP for five years. I was struggling with inconsistent, inconsistent lead flow. I was struggling with inconsistent call volume. I was struggling with all of those things. I was this person. So I know everything about you guys and everything that you struggle with. Your wants, your desires, what keeps you up at night. And, like, that allows me to make really fricking good ads that hit that good, good cost per calls, good cost per lead. Like, good cost per acquisition. Because I actually know that about you, right? So that's the first thing is you really have to know your avatar. And like, you might think you know your avatar, but. But I promise you, you probably don't know your avatar as well as you really think you do. So that's number one. Number two is you have to know your angles. And so a good analogy of this. I'm going to steal this from someone else. It's not my original thought, but, like, let's say you're selling dog food, right? God, I cannot draw today or write today. Guys, let's say we're selling dog food. So knowing your angles, what is an angle? An angle is a reason that somebody is buying from you. And so you have to understand what are the reasons that somebody buys your services? They want more lead flow, they want to look cool online, they want to build their brand awareness, they want to whatever else they want, right? Those are all different ad angles. And with the new Andromeda update, if you don't know what Meta Andromeda is, basically the way that you need to advertise now is based on different angles and different reasons that somebody's going to buy because Meta is going to match that ad to with the proper person. There's Meta Andromeda and then there's Meta Lattice. I'm not going to go so far into that. Like, we do that for our full clients. But like, Andromeda is the thing that sorts through all the creative. Lattice is the thing that distributes it to the actual person. But like, you have to have different reasons that somebody's going to be buying because Meta is going to match that with different pockets of people, essentially. So like, let's say you're selling dog food. What are all the reasons that somebody would buy dog food? Right? It could be like they want a healthier, healthy pet, they want them to live longer, right? They want a shiny coat. They want, I don't know what else they want. Like they want it to be not dry food, they want it to be like wet food because the dog enjoys that more. Like, they want, like there's so many reasons that somebody buys dog food. They want something that's cheaper maybe, right? There's so many reasons that somebody buys something like that. You have to do the same thing with your video service. So sub in from dog food, sub in video services. Like, what is the true reason people buy it? And then those are different ads. Like we make a healthy ad, we make a live longer ad, we make a shiny coat ad, we make a not dry food ad, we make a not cheaper ad. And these are full different ads, right? And so like, I know that sounds like a lot of work, but that's how you get good results in 2025, 2026 with ads is like you have to know your avatar and then know the angles, the reasons why they buy, right? So like, for you guys, I'll list it out. Like you want more lead flow, you want more consistency, you don't want to do one off projects. You. Like, these are all reasons that you guys are buying something. And like, these are all, if you notice, if you've seen my ads, like, these are all different ads that we run, right? It could be like, you know, hey, if you're doing real estate Shoots that are super cheap, but then you want to transition to higher ticket retainers. Like, that's an ad that we're using. That's, that's, that's working well for us. Like, these are all reasons that you're going to buy. And like you have to know your angles because each one of these angles is a pocket. So it's like an oil field. Right? And I'm stealing this from somebody else as well. But like it's an oil field and these are all different pockets. Like, this pocket is like shiny coat. This pocket is live longer. Like there's more people. And you're basically with the ad drilling down into the pocket and extracting the people out of it, right? So like there's more, there might be more people in the live longer pocket than people in the shiny, the shiny coat pocket or the people who want, you know, to say this is cheaper, right? There's less people who are in the cheaper pocket. And so like, you can't just only say live longer in your ads because when you scale, like you're going to extract all of the actual stuff out of this pocket. Right? And so you need to have multiple pockets as to why. Right. Why somebody's going to buy. So you have to know those angles. This is how you can profitably spend. Like we do over $100,000 every single month on ads. Profitably. Like very profitably. So that's number two. And number three finally is make more ads. Like, I see this so many times with clients is they'll make like two ads. They won't work. And they're going to be like, our ads don't work for me, man. Like, they don't work. It's because, like, these don't work. Like, I launched two ads. I spent 300 bucks. Doesn't work. Like, I cannot tell you how much that annoys me because, like, you have to launch multiple ads. Like, each. Like, you need to be making 25 to 50 ads just for your launch. Like, just to launch your actual campaigns. If you're not making that many, you're not giving your campaign a fair shot to actually succeed. Like, you're making 2 to 5, that's fine to start, but if those 2 to 5 don't work, like, you really need to be doing 25 to 50 when you launch. And so I see too many times people are just not making enough ads. And then like you have to update this on a weekly or bi weekly basis. Like, you have to be doing this every single week. And so like, for me I just have a notes app in my phone and when I think of a new ad angle, I'll write it down. I did this this morning. I was at the gym, I wrote it down. I was in the sauna. I wrote down a couple of ad angles and then I filmed them on my way home. That's it. So it's like, and then those are live in, you know, 30 minutes in the ad account. So I think like making more ads. And then like, I guess a fourth one would be speed. Like you have to be quick, like you have to operate with speed. So it's like when you think of a new ad angle, film it, get it, live, like test it, see if it works, and then like iterate on the ones that are working and make variations of those ads so you can iterate and then get more, get more ads that are winning. Obviously these are higher level lessons, guys, but like, hopefully this helps you around what you need to be focusing on when you're running ads. Like, we help our clients actually set up the ads and like, I'm not gonna show you exactly how we do it because that's reserved for the clients that we actually work with to be fair to them. But like, these are some lessons that we use within how we launch ads and how we spend profitably. Lots and lots of money on meta ads. And transparently I reserve a lot of the things. Like this is like maybe 10% of all the stuff that I know on my YouTube channel. I reserve like 90% of all the actual good stuff for the clients who actually work with us. I'm not one of those guys who just like gives you everything for free because it's not fair to people who pay us and clients that actually work with us. So if you want to get our help doing this for your agency so you can profitably spend money on ads and make money back and build an actual machine where you put one $1 in and $10 out.
