The Videographer & Filmmaker Industry Is Changing...and here's how

Speaker (Eric Deeran / Master Filmmaker) argues the video-production industry is shifting from one-off creative deliverables toward retainer, results-driven offerings that directly generate leads and revenue. He recommends videographers learn digital-marketing skills (running ads, organic distribution) so they can demonstrate measurable ROI—citing several client case studies and urging viewers to adopt higher-value services to avoid being commoditized. The video closes with a CTA to learn more via Master Filmmaker resources.

I was talking to one of our clients, Scott the other day and he sent me a voice note which I'll probably put in a future video. But he was saying kind of what the future of filmmaking and video production and running a video agency looks like. Right. And one of the things he said was that when he started Master Filmmaker he started realizing before he started, he realized he has to shift into more of a retainer based offer and a results driven offer. And I think something that a lot of video business owners get stuck on is just doing the video production and not actually doing the results part of it. Right? Because businesses don't care about how good the work is, how beautiful the work is. They don't even care what you shoot it on half the time. Does having a cool fancy gear help? Like yeah, absolutely. But they don't care about that stuff because they care about how is it going to drive them more leads, sales and clients at the end of the day. And if you're not able to do that, it's going to be really difficult for them to quantify and justify you your one time project deliverables, not like, let alone even just your retainer based prices. And so you really have to think about how am I going to drive more leads, more sales, more engagement, more brand awareness for this company. And you have to think about that through the lens of digital marketing and either running ads for them, having an organic strategy, becoming more of an agency because with AI and with tools coming out now, like people are going to start getting phased out if they don't learn how to higher level skills. And so you have to think about how can I provide more value to this client, how can I provide more substance to them? For instance, like one of our clients, dan, like Dan Deleon, scaled his agency, I think he's at 25, 30k a month right now and all he does is help businesses generate more leads with running video ads for them. And it's super simple because like one of the main things we teach you at Master Filmmaker is how to run ads for yourself. So then you can go around and turn and run those ads for your clients as well because it becomes a sellable skill. And so I think you have to think about like how can I provide more value to the client? How can I provide more, you know, tangible evidence that my work is leading to more work or more revenue or more income for the business? And when you can do that, you can start tracking things back saying hey, added an extra 100k to your business. Well, you know, that was tracked back to us because we put in these video ads, because we started running ads, because we started doing organic content, because we started and implement, we started to implement an organic strategy. And so when you can do that, you have a lot more leverage. And it's harder for them to get rid of you. Because if you hire somebody, right, let's say it's a salesperson and they're generating tons of money for the company, you're not going to fire that person, you're going to pay them more because they're generating money. Same thing with you as a video agency. If they, if you come in and they hire you to be a video agency for their company, if you're bringing in revenue and you can track that back, then they're not going to get rid of you, they're going to pay you more. Or if you want to justify higher rates, you can. And I think sometimes people are like, oh, you need to charge what you're worth. And like, that's fine. But the problem is, is if you're just creating content, you're not worth as much anymore. Because any kid with A camera who's 18 years old can come in and shoot content and shoot amazing stuff. Like everybody shoots amazing stuff. IPhones shoot amazing stuff at this point. So if, like, if that's your only if you're like a one trick pony and that's all you're doing, you're going to get phased out and you have to make a decision. And I think sometimes video business owners are like, I don't want to do that. I don't want to learn that skill. I don't want to learn that new thing to provide more value to my clients. I just want to shoot the video or shoot the content and that's fine. But you'll, you might find yourself working at a video agency who does provide that value to their clients. So it's just something to think about. It's something we've seen, it's what we're seeing shift in the landscape right now is companies want somebody who can provide more value than just creating content for them. They want somebody who can come in and shoot the content, edit the content and then distribute that content to actually get their clients, get them more results as a result of that. So just my thoughts today. And if you want to learn more about how to learn that skill skill to provide more value to your clients, that's one of the number one things we teach you inside of master filmmaker. We teach you how to run ads for yourself, generate leads which is the exact same process that you can turn around and sell to any service based business, right? Exact same process. And that's how dan got to 25 to 30k a month. That's how Brandon got to. I think he's almost at 50k a month right now. It's how Scott added an extra 180k to his video business. I'm not going to keep going on and on. There's case studies on our website if you want to see that. But they did that by providing more value. And you have to make a decision on are you going to provide that value or are you going to get left behind and just create content and stay stubborn? Right. And I always say, like, I don't want to be right, I want to be rich. I want to make money. Right. And a lot of times I find myself getting proven wrong. And when I was in that mindset, I was proven wrong.
