Don’t spiritualize smallness!

Femi Lazarus argues that many churches spiritualize smallness, using selective scripture to justify limited vision while the devil operates globally. He says this stems from cultural conditioning and a desire to appear more spiritual than larger churches, and calls believers to expand their vision instead.

The devil is doing global things. Christians are doing local things, and they want to contend with the devil at that level. It doesn't work. The devil likes to spread his wings. As a matter of fact, one of the names used to describe the devil is the anointed cherub that covereth. So if the devil is going to operate in a territory, he's looking for what can spread. What can cover? What can dominate? Do you understand that? The church on the other side believes that if it is big, it is the devil. Do you understand? They believe, oh, if this, if this is something magnificent, then it's the devil. We should not do anything big. Let's, let's make it small. Let's— because, you know, if you, if you, if you become big, then you can, you can actually become a sinner and then all that. So, so it's not about all those big things and, and So what we do is that you— we find a way to spiritualize smallness. And the reason why we find a way to spiritualize smallness oftentimes is insincerity. The fact that you met yourself small but you don't know how to be big, so you find a way to, in that smallness, look more spiritual than those who are big. So you find scriptures that justify the smallness so you can still at least have something. I taught a principle: nobody minds being stupid. Of being foolish. People just hate to look like it. So in other words, people actually don't mind being small as long as I can find a justification in the Bible. So the devil is doing global things, Christians are doing local things, and they want to contend with the devil at that level. It doesn't work. We think small. And sometimes— can I really talk to you? Sometimes the reason why we think like that is because of all that has shaped our minds. Every imagination will depend on what has been shown to you over time. Get the full message on Femi Lazarus Digital Library app today.
