A manager explains how to get your team to actually use new task management software: set it as the default browser tab so they see it first thing. Part 2 of a series on managing tasks in physical businesses.
If you're a leader or team manager trying to get your team to actually use that new piece of software you just purchased, consider the tab approach. This is a little hack. It's a little geeky but it can get the job done. Basically what you're going to do is go into the browser your team likes to use whenever they start the day and every time they click to open that browser you'll have it set up so that the default tab on their browser, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, whatever their default tab will be the tool you are trying to get them to use. So whether that's SmartSuite, whether that's their email, whether that's your accounting system, whatever that tool is that you're trying to build habits around, you will make sure that every time they go to log into the day and access the Internet they see that tool that you are trying to promote the usage of. You can call it the default strategy. I just call it really handy.
