This is a YouTube video titled "Are ClickUp Dependencies and Subtasks the same thing?" containing a discussion about the differences and functionalities of dependencies and subtasks in ClickUp, focusing on their use for task organization and automation. The content is a monologue or single-speaker explanation without multiple participants.
CK pointed out that dependencies in ClickUp are a bit annoying to set up, especially compared to subtasks. So are dependencies just subtasks annoying? Cousin I would argue not. While we can use subtasks and dependencies for the same kind of layout, they have different functionality. You can use subtasks to be dependencies but dependencies can't be used as subtasks. Why dependencies are still valuable even in combination with subtasks is we can filter and automate based on that dependency relationship. Plus we have a visual indicator whether or not a task can be done. That's not something we have when we use the nested hierarchy. I agree with CK that it would be really cool for ClickUp to just integrate these two features. Have an implied dependency relationship when things are nested, maybe as an on off toggle, but that's not currently the case. So currently these are two separate layers that can be used together or separately to help you organize the order of your work.
