This is a YouTube video titled "Build a machine, don't be the machine. 🛠" featuring George B. Thomas delivering a monologue or talk on leadership and management strategies. He discusses the concept of viewing work as a machine, emphasizing prioritization, delegation, and automation to maximize efficiency and value. The content is motivational and instructional, aimed at managers and leaders.
If you're a manager or a leader, you want to think about all your work as a machine. Into it you have money, resources, time, all those things you can't get back and out of that machine. You have, hopefully value, smiles, or whatever it is that motivates you to do what you do. But here's the thing people don't get right. Let's say you have a project with 100 tasks that need to be done. The first thing you want to focus on is dividing and conquering those 100. Take the 100 and figure out which 90 you need to do and which 10 somebody else can do. Or figure out which 80 you can do in which 20 can be straight up deleted. Or figure out which 50 you can do and which 50 you can automate Quickly figuring out your plan of attack is what it means to build the machine. And once you have this building done, then if you have time and capacity and abilities to help out working in the machine, go for it. Lead by example. But this cannot be your first priority. Your first job is to build the machine, make sure others have what they need to succeed before. And perhaps instead of you diving in and doing everything all yourself.
