What does your company feel like when you walk through the doors or even log into a meeting? Is it buzzing with energy, excitement, purpose, or does it feel a little, let's just say flat? Hey, I'm George B. Thomas, and in this video we're talking about how passion doesn't just live in individuals, it doesn't just live in teams, but how it can transform entire company cultures. When passion becomes part of the DNA of your business, it creates momentum, fuels innovation, and makes your organization a place where people actually want to be. So stick with me, because today we're diving into how you can build a passion driven culture that just doesn't survive, but it thrives or flourishes or whatever words you want to put in there. Are you ready to jump in? Then you know, let's giddy up. Let's face it, culture is the heartbeat of any organization. It's what people feel when they show up and it's what determines whether they stick around or check out. Passion in culture isn't about being loud or flashy. It's about creating an environment where people feel connected to the mission, supported by their team and energized to give their best. When passion is baked into your culture, engagement skyrockets because people feel like they're part of something bigger, bigger than themselves. Innovation has the opportunity to flourish because passion makes taking risks feel exciting, not scary, which is how it feels in many organizations that I've worked in historically. Also, retention improves because people don't want to leave a place where they feel valued and they feel inspired. Listen, passion isn't just an add on. It's the foundation for long term organizational and cultural success. So how do you create a culture that's fueled by passion? It's not about perks or ping pong tables. It's about purpose, people and practices. Although I do love me some ping pong, but I'd much rather have purpose and people who are passionate. So how do we make this actionable? Well, step one, Start with purpose. Purpose is the compass that keeps passion pointed in the right direction. Make sure your mission is clear, meaningful and regularly reinforced. People need to know why their work matters. Yes, your humans want to know that the work they're doing matters. So action step here. Kick off meetings by sharing stories of impact, how your work has made a difference for customers, communities, or even team members. Also, if you haven't watched our series On Purpose, do that after this video to dig in even deeper on the importance of purpose around your organization, individuals and teams, but around passion. Step two, Build systems that reinforce the passion. Passion isn't a one time spark, it's something you have to feed. Create rituals and routines that keep it alive. A few ideas might be something like Recognition programs celebrate wins big and small highlight efforts, not just the outcomes of those efforts. Maybe passion projects give employees space to pursue ideas that they actually care about. And don't forget those feedback loops. Ask regularly what's exciting you right now and where do you feel stuck. An action step here might be something like set up monthly passion check ins to keep the energy flowing and address roadblocks early before they actually turn into things much worse than roadblocks. And you've seen that. But Step three Model Passion at the Top Listen Culture starts with leadership. If you want passion to spread, you have to live it. So show up with energy, share what the heck excites you and don't be afraid to let people see your own sense of purpose as the leader in the organization that they can follow. An action step here. Lead by example. Share your own struggles, your own wins, your own lessons learned to create authenticity and trust. That's what you want to do for your people. Let's be honest, it comes down to building resilience. Here's the truth. Passion doesn't mean avoiding challenges. It means facing them head on with energy and optimism. Passion driven cultures build resilience because it is so vitally important. Teams feel connected to their work and each other, so they're willing to stick it out during tough times. That's why resilience is important. Leaders model persistence, showing that obstacles are just part of the journey. That's why resilience is important. People see setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow, not reasons to quit. Why is resilience important? Because of these things. So celebrate failures as learning moments. Post a lessons learned meeting where teams share what didn't work and what they'll do differently next time. Building a passion driven culture isn't a one time effort, it's an ongoing process and here's how you keep it going over time in your culture. Number one, I mean, it just makes sense. Measure it. You can't manage what you don't measure, so use surveys or one on one conversations to check in on passion levels with your humans. Regularly track engagement, excitement and alignment with the mission or the jobs that are needing to be done. Also number two here. Adapt and evolve. Cultures grow and change. So should your systems. Stay flexible and keep asking what's working. And of course, keep asking what's not. Number three here. Celebrate consistency. Find ways to highlight wins and milestones regularly. I know I keep saying that, but it's highly important. Whether it's team shout outs, awards, or just a quick thank you. Consistent recognition keeps the momentum alive. And here's the big question. What kind of culture are you building? One that's checking the boxes. One that's alive with energy, passion and purpose. I know which one you hope you're building, but which one are you building? Take one of today's tools. Whether it's building systems for recognition, hosting a passion check in, or celebrating lessons learned and start using it this week in your organization. Passion isn't just a tool for individuals or teams. It's the heartbeat of a thriving culture. The culture that you want to build. So go out there, lead with passion and build something amazing.
