For years, I was doing business annual planning completely wrong, and I bet a lot of other business owners are too. Here's what I was doing when it came time to create an annual plan. I spent just a brief amount of time thinking about what I wanted my year to be and the rest of my time worrying about what goals I needed to set, what I needed to do when, and breaking things down into projects and tasks. I spent so much time planning the tasks and items and goals that I didn't really take time to consider do these goals actually matter to me? And so what would happen is I'd plan all this stuff and then a month or two into the year I would just scrap it because I'd realize these goals don't make sense or I don't care about them. Now when I do an annual plan, actually break it into four categories, I spend most of my time on thinking, followed by some goal setting, some communication, and a whole lot of planning.
