This is a YouTube video titled "Cross-training your employees won't work without this ONE thing..." containing a monologue or presentation from January 31, 2024, discussing effective cross-training strategies for teams to ensure smooth task handover and continuity. The content features a single speaker explaining the importance of regular practice by backup team members to handle tasks effectively when primary members are unavailable.

If you have multiple team members and you're trying to have one person be the backup who's cross trained in what another person does, it'll never work unless you do one thing. Normally, person A does 100% of the invoicing, but if they're sick, we expect person b to do 100%. You think because you have this plan in place that you're cross training? You're really not cross training because person B doesn't actually know what they're doing and isn't able to effectively do the work. Instead of this kind of change, what we want to think about is something more like this. Person A does a task 95% of the time, but 5% of the time, person B always does it. In addition to this, if person A is out for some reason, that other 95% of work ends up on person B's plate. The difference is because they're already used to doing 5% of the work. They're getting regular practice every week, every month, every year, whenever they already do it. So when they have to take over 100%, things go smoothly.
