This is a YouTube video titled "Grow your Communication Skills Using This Tip" containing a monologue or instructional talk recorded on January 16, 2023. The speaker shares communication advice focused on the concept of scaffolding knowledge by building on what the audience already knows, using metaphors and relatable examples to improve understanding.
Saif asked if I had any communication tips. And my second one is to scaffold. And this is an idea actually from the Book of Design for how people learn. And basically the concept is rather than trying to build someone's knowledge up from nothing to where you need it to be to communicate with them, build on something they already know. And one way of doing this would be to use things like metaphors, jargon, relatable situations so that people can instantly hear that word or phrase or story and say, ah, I get it, this can come in so many forms. But one of the ways that I've done it here on the ProcessDriven channel is when I talk about things like ClickUp hierarchy. I say, hey, you know your to do list, your piece of paper, you know what that is, right? Okay, well the ClickUp list structure is a lot like that. And all of a sudden with just a sentence I've explained what otherwise would take me several paragraphs to explain. That's my second tip.
