Accountability is really just about pointing out what happened and holding people to promises. Every task is a promise. Either your future selves, your teammates, or your clients. Holding people accountable just looks like calling them on their promises. You said you were gonna cold call 20 people every day this week. Did you do it? I'm not judging. I'm just asking for the status of affairs, and then my job is, all right, you didn't. Okay, what do you need in order to make that happen next week? Maybe they just completely ignored the task they said they were gonna do. They just didn't do it even though they promised. In those cases, you might start taking it discipline arena. And that's where it's like, hey, this is a company where your promises matter and XYZ will happen if you don't meet your promises. So this is warning number one. And that's where we're not getting into threatening jobs. We are making clear the expectations of performance and letting someone know when they fall beneath them. We're focused on the gap we want them to cross, not so much what happened or the emotions around what happened or threatening jobs.
