How to use Custom Dates in ClickUp Calendar View

Learn how to set up multiple custom date fields in ClickUp's calendar view to track tasks with different deadlines. The tutorial walks through adding custom dates and customizing the display for better task management.
Up until recently, when you wanted to use a calendar view in ClickUp, the only date that would show up on that calendar was the start and the due date. And that was fine. But for those of us who had multiple dates associated with the task, it was kind of a buzzkill. Luckily, we can now put multiple different dates on our ClickUp calendar. And I'm going to show you exactly how inside this Quick Tip tutorial. To use the multiple dates feature inside the calendar view of ClickUp, we need to have two essential things, a calendar view and multiple dates. So, so let's start off with the multiple dates here. So we have some tasks here, we have some dates associated with them using the standard due date field. And maybe we want to go off and also give them start dates. So I'm going to go down here and add a start date. Great. We've got start and due dates. This is all normal. To use the custom date, we need to add one more date that is completely different. So we could add a custom date field called Publish date. And now all of a sudden we have three possible date fields we could put on our calendar view. So let's go ahead and create a calendar in ClickUp. To create a calendar view, we're going to click on plus view and then select Calendar. We can give it a meaningful name like test and then we're going to add that view. Once we add the view, we see something not so exciting like this. If I scroll forward, I'm going to see the start and due dates based on the tasks I put in. But I'm not seeing those custom dates because we need to adjust one critical setting to make that show up inside our calendar view. Here we're going to hit settings and then go into the date custom field menu. Here we can choose any of the date custom fields that are added onto the task and click A plus and turn them on to see those additional dates on the calendar. We're going to save our view here to make sure that these always show up when we go to this view. Click that down here. Then, voila. We now have our start date, our due date, and that custom field on there. If we wanted to, we could also remove these start and due dates. So we're only seeing our publish dates and maybe even rename this to be published publishing dates. So we can focus in on just one topic. Up to you. But this is kind of what this looks like. It looks just like the start and due date. And just like those, we are able to move these around on the calendar. If we want to and we can adjust both time and date for each of these custom dates just like our start and due dates. Before we're done here, maybe we want to customize a few other elements so we can actually scroll down and determine what is going to determine the color of the actual task, whether it's where it's located or the status. We could choose to show subtasks on here. We could even go down and add certain details onto the card itself. Notice we don't have the option to add an image here. I know that would be great, but we don't have that option. But we can choose to show things like parent name subtasks and even our other custom fields that we might have to have those show up on the cards themselves. Once you've clicked save, you have locked it in and you have made a calendar view that shows a date other than the actual due date. This is really great for applications like content creation where you might have an internal due date a few weeks before you want to have the content published. This could be good for client deliverables where you want to have again an internal due date maybe a week or so before the client's public due date, so you have some wiggle room. This could also be great if you had a team directory built inside ClickUp and you wanted to have everyone's birthdays and work anniversary show up on one calendar called team dates or something like that, team celebrations. You could do that here with these custom dates worked into the calendar view. Just keep in mind that at this point in time, custom dates, while they can have dates and times, they cannot recur like a due date. So in that use case I just gave you of a team directory, I would probably still use the due date to be someone's birthday because you can have that due date automatically change every year to the next year, whereas these custom dates, they cannot yet recur like a normal due date could. So what do you guys think? Are you excited as I am about these custom dates on there? Did you know about this already? Was this new?
