HubSpot Traffic Analytics - Default Reporting

George B. Thomas walks through HubSpot's built-in traffic analytics reports. Learn what data you get by default on sources, pages, UTM parameters, countries, browsers, and devices without building custom reports from scratch.
Did somebody say analytics? Did somebody say traffic? Did somebody say default reports? But yet you tried to recreate the wheel. Hey, you know what time it is? All right, happy HubSpotter. It's your boy George B. Thomas from George B. Thomas llc. And today we're going to talk about something that is very interesting to me and I've seen it happen over the last, well, 10 years since I've used HubSpot. And that is sometimes people try to recreate the wheel when the wheel has already been created. Curious what I mean. Well then let's get in to the good stuff. We're going to talk about some default functionality that many people, when they get into HubSpot reporting, try to recreate the wheel. However, if you just know that you can go into your reports and analytics tools and traffic analytics, there are seven different things that you could be looking at to make smart decisions for for your future marketing, sales, service, business strategy needs. So without further ado, let's dive in and let's look at HubSpot Traffic Analytics. So what you're going to do is you're going to head over to reports and analytics tools now. We're going to cover more of these analytics tools in the future. But understanding the baseline of what HubSpot gets you from a reporting level is super key. So we're going to start with traffic analytics. Now in traffic analytics it looks like maybe you only have one tool for from the out facing portion of what we just clicked, but you have multiple tools. So let's start and work our way across this. First of all, HubSpot traffic analytics sources. Sources is where you can actually view all analytics activities or you can even include offline sources in here. But what this allows you to do is look at things like sessions, sessions to contact rate, new contacts, contacts to customer rate, customers bounce rate, and so much more. We're going to go ahead and leave it on sessions and notice with sources. We're talking about a original source here. So organic search referrals, organic social, email marketing, paid search, direct traffic and notice we've got the area column or we can even do line or combination. We'll go ahead and put it back to area. This is going to show you that you can click on these and actually turn off. Maybe you just want to look at your organic search and what's happening. Maybe you want to look at your organic social or maybe you want to look at things paired together. Nevertheless, you're going to see that original source and you're going to see those sessions in this case notice at the very top. Right now we are looking at a rolling date range, the last 30 days excluding today, and we're looking at it daily. But we could do something like we wanted to see what this quarter or this year or last quarter looks like. And again we can go ahead and filter bi weekly, daily or even monthly if we wanted to do the quarter, depending upon what we're trying to show and the story that we want the data to tell, or might I say the story that the data is telling. When we look at this as we scroll down, we're going to see all sources. And again we can see direct organic, organic search referrals and paid search. Anything that's blue we can click into or drill down. So if we wanted to see paid search, we're going to see that there's an auto tagged PPC. We can go and see that it's AdSense, in other words, in this case I think it was Instagram. But we're going to go back to all sources. You're going to see sessions, session to contact, rate, new contacts, contact to customer rate customers, and so on and so forth. And each of these you can actually filter up or down depending on what you want to click here. And you can even edit the columns for what you want to see. Now you can only do all of them. That's right. It used to be back in the day where you could pick, I think seven, but now you can do all the columns, although that's a lot to look at. And now you have to arrow over or scroll over. So maybe you don't want all of them, but at least grab the ones that you do want to look at. And now you'll have that table that you can look at. So that right there is the sources. Other than that, what you might want to do is export or you're going to see that you can save chart, save table, but literally save it as a report. So if you want to put something like this on a dashboard, after you filter it by a certain way, you have the ability to do that. Moving on. If you've created topic clusters, you're going to be able to see your topic clusters here. If you've created pages, which by all that is holy, I hope you have pages. What we're going to do in this case is we're going to say all data and again we're going to be able to see page views, submissions, new contacts, customers, page views to submission rate and a whole lot more information. You're going to be able to do the frequency that you want and the date range that you want. You're also going to be able to do all analytics views or certain ones and you can even filter on page types of domain language and publish status. As we scroll down through this, you again have the same columns. So if we want to see the most viewed pages or the least viewed pages, well then we can see that over here and over time. Now in this case we're going to go instead of all data, we're going to say this year because it was this year that we started a business and we niche down in the content that we started to create. And yes, we can see that we're in a little bit of a pattern. I wonder if that's the Google helpful update or maybe a Google update doesn't matter. But we can start to see what is the most viewed pages here. Obviously the homepage makes sense. Hub Heroes podcast totally makes sense. Inbound 2020 offer. Wow, that's kind of crazy. And it just keeps going on. Again, you can edit those columns for all the information that you might want to see. As you can see, there is a ton, but we can customize to what we want it to be. So we've got sources, topic clusters, pages. Also, if you're using UTM parameters, you'll be able to see UTM parameters for this. Again, if you're using them, you know what they are. If you don't know what they are, then we should probably create a video on what is UTM parameters. You're going to be able to see countries. So if we scroll down here, United States, India, Canada, Germany. Oh, come on, Australia, you're on my bucket list. We need to get more people from Australia. But the idea again sessions, new visitors, all of that information, being able to change your report to whatever you want it to be, being able to save that report or that column. We've also got browsers because you should be paying attention to. Is it mostly chrome? Chrome mobile, LinkedIn app, interesting. Safari mobile, Facebook app. So now again, remember all of these, you can drill down and you can look at the different things. Look at all those different versions. Update your Chrome people anyway, not why we're here. Last but not least, maybe you're curious about device type. And now we're going to be able to see desktop, mobile, tablet, smart tv. Holy mackerel, who are you? I want to know. But nevertheless, we can see more people are viewing on desktop than mobile. Not a big difference. So we need to pay attention to both. And yes, you should be paying attention to both user experiences, but you can see contacts and customers based on mobile device. So again, traffic analytics when you're out in this outer shell feels like it might be one thing, but there's literally 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 things that could help you market better. As long as you knew that you can go into HubSpot, go into reports, go into analytics tools and check out your traffic analytics. So make sure you head into your HubSpot portal, make sure you go to that reportings tab and make sure you check out your traffic analytics. Now in future video videos, we're going to dive into more areas of HubSpot where there's default reporting so that you know you don't necessarily have to recreate the wheel, just use the wheels that are already there to get you down the road.
