HubSpot Tutorial: How to Add & Customize Pipeline Stages for Sales Hub

Two speakers walk through customizing deal pipelines in HubSpot Sales Hub. You'll learn how to add new deal stages, assign deal probabilities, and manage deals within those stages to optimize your sales process.
If you have just acquired Sales Hub.
You'Re probably seeing that one of the most important things that you can use within that platform is the deals section. And within that deal section, one of the most important things to keep in mind there is the pipelines. Pipelines are highly customizable and you can actually get to customize it as much as creating your own deal stages, your own pipelines, and even renaming each of the stages or the pipelines to whatever fits your business best. Let me show you right now how you would actually edit and add a new deal stage to one of your pipelines. Check this out.
We want to add a new deal stage to one of our pipelines. So you will go to Sales and Deals in order to see which of the pipelines you want to most likely edit. Right here I want to add a new stage to the E Commerce sales pipeline. As you can see, it already has checkout abandoned as a stage. Checkout pending checkout completed, processed, shipped and cancelled. I would like to add something that probably says standby so that we can later on get back to those deals and not actually move them to canceled, which would be close, lost or any other stage. So if we want to edit that, I would go to this gear icon right here in the settings and if you're not taken to this page by default, you will most likely just go on your left sidebar all the way down to Data Management. Click on Deals right here, objects, deals and then you would see a tab right here that says Pipelines. Now since we were editing the ecommerce pipeline, that's the one that I want to add a stage for. So ecommerce sales, we will choose it here and then we will go down here and configure it. Now I want to add a new stage that says standby and I probably want to add deal probability of about 30%. So let's do that. We would add a new stage, we would call it standby and I want to add a 30% deal probability. We would do that by as you can see, I added a new stage. Just inputted the name by text right here. And then I chose the deal probability as 30%. I want to now save that. And now you will see that reflected. If we go back to sales, we go back to deals and we look at our E Commerce sales pipeline. Now we have the new stage added right here, standby and anything that is put in here it will be forecasted with a 30% deal probability.
So we have now added a new stage to one of your existing pipelines as well as add a deal probability to that particular stage. So you're probably wondering what the next steps are. And indeed the next step is to actually add deals to that particular stage. Let me show you how to do that next.
Now we want to add a new deal to that new stage that we just created. If we want, there's several ways to do it. And the way I'm going to do it is by actually creating one in another stage and then passing that onto this stage right here. We will do this as a manual process. There's ways to automate it, but we can certainly leave that for another video later on. So right here, let's say that I want to have a new deal and that it'll be a checkout abandoned, right? And then we'll want to move it to standby. So for example, we would do this manually. You would hit create deal here at the top. Create deal. And then let's suppose we call this test deal standby. There we go. And then we'll put it in the checkout abandon stage right here. We do have the pipeline chosen by default, the one that we want. But if we wanted to put that in another pipeline, we would choose another one here. We'll just leave it in the ecommerce sales pipeline for now, this deal stage. Checkout abandoned. That's okay. And then we want to add maybe an amount of about $10 just so that we don't overly change anything there. I'll put this as a new business and I'll put the priority as probably low. And then I won't add that to any contact right now. I just want to add that as a deal. So if we have all the fundamentals in place now, name for the deal, a stage for it, a pipeline, an amount, close date. We can definitely put this within this month. So I would probably add it on 31st July deal type new business priority low. And we'll just leave this as default. So I'll hit create right here. And once you do that, you get to this part of your own deal. So you can see now this is the deal itself. But if we go back to the deals and we check it within the pipeline, you, you can see right here, our new deal is created. Now we want to move this deal to this new stage that is called standby. And there's a couple of ways to do it. One is the easiest, which is just dragging and dropping. So you would just drag your deal, go all the way here and just put it in the standby stage. The other way to do that if we just bring it all the way back, I believe it was in checkout abandoned and we click on the deal. We can also adjust the stage by taking a look at those at all of its properties. It just takes a little bit more time. And then we could go deal stage and instead of checkout abandoned, this drop down would be turned into standby and we would hit save if we wanted to do that. And the other way that we can do this is you would go back to your deal and simply on this left sidebar here at the top, you would just, as you can see more easily drop down, select this stage standby and maybe change it back to either abandoned or standby or whichever other stage now it is on the standby stage. So I'll just leave it as is. And then if we go back to the pipeline right here, you will see that our deal is in this section right here.
So you now know how to add a new stage to one of your existing pipelines, assign a deal probability to that particular stage as well as adding deals to that stage and actually being able to move them around your different pipeline stages. Remember, education is great, but the execution is where it's at. So go out there and be the hub hero that your organization needs today.
