One person tested 13 time tracking apps and ranked them by features and usability. The review covers GPS tracking, invoicing, and which tools work best for different needs.
I have just spent way too long, like days of my life researching time tracking software and I cannot have this research go to waste. So I'm going to be sharing everything I've Learned from researching 13 of the top time tracking apps in the hopes of saving you the headache that I just went through because it was pretty terrible. I have a bunch of notes that I'm going to just go through while showing you the inside of these tools. You know, not just the sales pages, the actual stuff, stuff you want to see. And I'm also going to then rank all 13 of these tools on two metrics that you can see on the chart right here. I'm going to rank them from lots of features to very few features and also from kind of ugly and clunky to super slick and nice to use. The time tracking software that I've reviewed during this fun adventure include Clockshark, Everhour, Gusto's Time Tracking, Harvest, Hubstaff, Rescue Time, QuickBooks, Time Time, Doctor Time Camp, Timely Time, and I T Metric and Toggle Track. First up is Clockshark, and Clockshark right out of the gate really caters itself towards that kind of tradesman in the field kind of operation from an ease of use perspective. I kind of my notes here say ugly and click heavy but functional, which I think kind of summarize it nicely. It does have granular permissions, so you can get really, really detailed in how you want somebody to use the tool. It's easy to edit and it has a basic billing and invoicing feature. Just a quick gotcha on this one is that Clockshark does allow you to also CL collect payments for your invoices, but only in the US because they're using Chase Payments. So just be aware of that if you're looking to also invoice your time when it comes to finding contacts or organizing your information. Clockshark has a pretty nice basic CRM from a personnel perspective. They do allow you to track time off and vacation, which is nice to see. And they have the most sophisticated GPS functionality I've seen in any of these tools, where it allows you not only to track GPS coordinates, but also geofence. In other words, the map on a virtual map. What areas are considered the work area so you can be alerted if someone's trying to.
