Is Your HubSpot App Ready For The New Platform?

A HubSpot Developers tutorial by Brooke showing how to migrate public Marketplace apps from platform version 2025.1 to 2025.2 using the HS Project Migrate command. The video explains new platform features (app objects, app events, app homes, app settings, built-in telemetry), demonstrates running the irreversible migrate command in an IDE (preserves client IDs/secrets, moves old source to an archive folder, requires UIDs), and verifies the app continues to function post-migration (project overview updates and card still renders on contact records).

Hey y', all, It's Brooke with HubSpot. Today I'm going to show you how you can migrate over your old public apps to the new HubSpot framework on platform version 2025.2. Migrating to the new platform version opens up a world of possibilities with our new tools available in the HubSpot developer platform. So if you have a public app on the HubSpot Marketplace, you'll definitely want to migrate your project over so that you can take advantage of our new features, including app objects, app events, app homes, app settings, and built in telemetry. All of these features are going to really up your public app game. And we have a great migrate command that will automatically do all of the heavy lifting for you, so it'll be really easy to have everything in place. Additionally, when you run this migrate command, all of your client IDs, secrets and all that stuff are going to remain the same. So you don't have to worry about if any of your users are currently using your app, they won't have any issues when you migrate it to the new platform version. So let's go into my HubSpot account so I can show you an example and then show you what happens when you use the migrate command. So here I just have a public app that uses our charts component and it renders on a contact record page. If you're interested in using this example. We do have a really great repo for this and I will link that down below in the description box so you can go ahead and fork that repo yourself and try it out. But this one, currently if we go into our development settings, it will tell us when we go to our projects. Over here we have our UIE public app charts and this will tell us that we are on platform version 2025.1. If you have already built a new project with 2025.2, you can kind of see that this still has our old settings. And if you go into the Manage App settings, this shows you all of the old features. So when we go and migrate this and deploy it back to our account, we will then see the new features and the new overview of our project. So let's move in to my IDE so we can run that command. All right, so in my project folder right now we have our HS project JSON file and it's showing us the platform version of 2025.1. Now when we go ahead and run the migrate command, this will update to 2025.2. So in my Terminal, I'm going to open it up so you can see it a little bit better. But in my terminal I'm going to just go ahead and run HS Project Migrate and this will come up with some, some important information. So this is irreversible, which means that when you change from 20, 25.1 to 2025.2, you cannot take it back to its original version. And the reason why is because a lot of the file directory has changed from 2025.1 and below to 2025.2. If you want to know all about the new project structure of a 2025.2 project, go ahead and check out the video that I created talking all about that. That will be linked down below as well. That will give you a great overview of how the new project layout is. But again, it's just going to remind you that if you do this, it is going to be irreversible. So it's always recommended that you copy to a new directory for safe key. And this command only works for public apps. So if you have a private app, you will not be able to use HS Project Migrate. You will have to manually migrate your private apps to the new Unified Apps system. So now it says, which app would you like to migrate? And currently we only have one option. So we're just going to go ahead and click Enter to choose that. And then it's going to say the following features will be migrated. So in this one we have web hooks, we have a card, and we have the overall public app. So we are going to say, yes, we do want to proceed. And then it's going to begin that migration. Now, everything inside of your project must have a UID or a unique identifier, and this can be whatever you want. So I'm just going to go ahead and call it all this public app webhooks, and then that's going to wrap up the migration now that we've given it a UID and it'll take just a little bit to run because it's packaging all of your files into the new file structure. And voila, the migration has completed. And it gives you some info here. The contents of your old source directory have been moved to an archive folder. So they have given you an archive folder with all of your old stuff and you can move any required files to the new source directory so it doesn't go away, it just now lives in the archive folder and it will also go ahead and build it for you inside of your account so let's go back over to my HubSpot account. So now we are back on our development overview and we can see that it says that it's updated a minute ago and that it was a successful deploy. So now if we click in to it, it's going to give us our brand new overview for the unified projects. Now you can see all of your build and deploy info right in this place and as well as the settings. And then when you click in to your app, this is where you can go ahead and see the features that are included. This, like I said, has a card and a webhook and then it also show you your auth information as well as how you can start to distribute it as a public app. So now let's go back to a record page to see if it's still showing up there. So we go to contacts and then we click on a contact and it should show up in our middle panel and voila, it is still showing up. So if you migrate your public apps, you don't have to be worried about any experience loss for any of your customers who have currently installed it. This will just give them the access to new features as you add them. So go ahead, run this migration command. Make sure that you save your old project somewhere where you can easily access it. But again, all of those old files will live in an archive folder now. So let me know down in the comments below what new feature you are excited about most and why you're going to be migrating your public apps to version 2025.2. And as always, please make sure to like and subscribe to the HubSpot Developers YouTube channel and I will see you all in another video. Bye all. Bye bye.
