This is a YouTube video titled "Small things can change everything." containing a monologue or talk from March 19, 2024, discussing the impact of small gestures like thank you notes in volunteer work and the importance of creating a stable and sustainable work environment to improve team retention. The content features a single speaker sharing personal experiences and insights.
In my volunteering, I would send thank you notes to people, notes in general, about appreciating what they were doing. And one of the volunteers on my team had helped run an event, so I sent her a note, you know, sort of my usual routine. I spent about $1,500 a year on postage, and I sent the note. And I heard from her a few days later when she had gotten the note, and she was like, thank you for sending that. I've worked in marketing for 20 years, and I've never gotten a thank you note from a boss. Small things add up. You still need to create a good environment for team members and make sure it's not a roller coaster. You know, part of work, lesser and more, is making your agency more stable, more sustainable, and less of the wild swings, which is going to help with your retention. But small things matter.
