A strategy for managing new ideas without losing focus on current work. Capture them on a list and review weekly instead of jumping between projects. This keeps you moving forward on what matters.
We don't want to stop coming up with great ideas, AKA shiny objects. We just want to change how you determine when to work on those shiny objects. So here's what it's going to look like. Normally, you probably think of an idea amazing and then you go to do it. It's pretty one to one. Instead, what I want you to do is when you think of a new shiny idea, put it on an ideas list. When an idea goes in your idea list, you cannot work on it immediately. Instead, every week I want you to go look at that ideas list and then you have full reign to pick up any of those ideas that you came up with through the week and start working on them. This simple strategy makes sure that your Eureka moments get captured, but they also don't derail you from the thing you're currently working on. You know that you'll be able to come back to those ideas later, see which ones are truly the best, with a fresh perspective, and then move forward on those just a few days later. It's way less overwhelming and way more sustainable. That's why.
