This is a YouTube video titled "The do's and don'ts of training a team to replace you." It contains a monologue or talk discussing career progression and the importance of a phased ramp-up plan for promoting team members within an agency or organization. The speaker advises against rushing high-potential employees into top leadership roles without adequate support.
What is the ramp up plan? For a lot of agencies, people will be in a certain role if they meet certain metrics, then they get promoted and they get promoted. So for instance, someone is in a manager role and you know they have potential. You've talked with them about their potential path. Maybe they'll go to a director role and then maybe they'll go to a VP role. And after vp maybe they'll go CEO, maybe they'll be managing director, maybe president, maybe eventually becoming CEO if you want to become the chair of your agency. The key with that though is to have a phased process. Don't just desperately take someone who has high potential and make them the CEO or the president or the COO if that's not where they are now because you're throwing them into the deep end of the pool without giving them the support they need. Good team members can deal with a lot of challenges, but it is unfair to them and to yourself to not have a phased ramp up plan.
