This is a YouTube video titled "We've fired clients over this." containing a monologue or talk from September 24, 2024, discussing the importance of prioritizing team well-being over difficult clients, including experiences with abusive clients and the decision to fire clients to protect team mental health and company culture.
I've seen lots of agency owners that really will prioritize whatever the client says to the detriment of their team. And don't get me wrong, the reason that we're all existing at this company is because we get really great results for our clients. But to be honest, we've had some clients that were kind of abusive to my team in the past that were rude, that didn't understand, that said slurs. And I've seen situations with other agency owners where they kind of, like, laugh about these things and they're like, whatever. This is just what you got to do. We're dealing with clients. I think that the first approach, unless they're saying slurs or being truly bad, should always be to try and chat with the client and be like, hey, when you say these things, it's not really appropriate or it's not productive. And if necessary, I always tell the team, I'm happy to chat and have step in and have this conversations myself, but I think there's times when you really need to choose your team over the clients. We've fired clients before. Even if they're paying us good money, it's just not worth it. I don't want to stress my team out. I don't want to hurt their mental health. I don't want them working crazy, crazy hours just because a client asked them to. That's not what I'm building here. I want to build corporate detox. I want to build a company where people enjoy and have a good time.
