What Role Does Marketing Play in Sales Enablement [M1-L3]

Marketers have three superpowers in sales enablement: creating content, training teams, and aligning sales and marketing. The lesson shows how collaboration and trust between departments drive better sales results.
Welcome back, Hub Heroes. Now, while this lesson is all about marketers, I'd strongly urge even those of you in business leadership or sales roles to stick around. That way, you'll have a better understanding of how your marketing counterparts should be moving the sales enablement ball forward within your organization. Okay, marketers, here's the deal. Like my pal Liam Neeson likes to say, you have a very particular set of skills, and we're going to talk about how your particular set of skills, which border on superpowers, play an essential role in the sales enablement process. Think of yourself as a master of ceremonies or the conductor of a sales enablement orchestra. You're there to help guide the sales team toward their victory by providing them the perfectly blended symphony of resources, tools, and most of all, unwavering support through the True Alignment. They're going to need that support while on the battlefield. Now let's dig more deeply into each of these three components. Marketing Superpower Number one Content Creation and Delivery As a marketer, you possess the unique ability to create compelling, targeted content that supports your sales team's endeavors. You're like the wordsmith crafting sales presentations, case study, product brochures, and blog posts that strike a chord with your target audience. Superhero there's just one problem. Alignment continues to be a problem between sales and marketing teams. For instance, one of the biggest gripes modern sales teams have, particularly in the B2B space, is that the leads they get from marketing teams are usually not qualified enough. On top of that, often sales teams can feel like they're screaming into the void when it comes to asking marketers for the content they need. These folks don't often have a shared definition of what valuable content looks like. That's why you absolutely cannot make assumptions about what your sales team needs. You need to foster that relationship proactively and work to cultivate trust between you and them. We'll talk more about this here shortly, but from the content perspective, what this looks like is talking to sales about what questions they're getting from prospects. Do this on a regular basis, once or twice a month, because things can change quickly. Their answers will provide you with an endless list of ideas for sales enablement content that will actually make a bottom line impact. The key word here that you need to keep in mind always is collaboration. Collaboration with your sales team is crucial to understand their specific content needs. At each stage of the buyer's journey. Together, you'll create an unstoppable arsenal of content that engages prospects and propels them towards the ultimate goal. A Purchase decision Marketing Superpower Number two Training and Enablement Ah, the art of knowledge sharing. As a marketer, you possess a treasure trove of expertise and insights about your products or services. Sharing that knowledge with the sales team is your sacred duty. Developing training programs that equip your salespeople with in depth product knowledge, competitive intelligence and irresistible selling techniques. You'd be surprised how often sales teams are the last to know about product changes, strategy pivots and altered business objectives. Seriously. Show up as their advocate, always keeping them in the loop, and they'll be incredibly grateful. But don't stop there. Embrace the power of continuous learning by implementing ongoing training and enablement initiatives. This ensures your sales team remains at the forefront of industry trends. Armed with customer insights and equipped with sales methodologies that can defeat any adversary, it's like forging an army of sales warriors. Marketing Superpower Number three Sales and Marketing Enablement the Harmony of Collaboration Sales enablement thrives when sales and marketing teams work hand in hand. As a marketer, you hold the key to fostering an environment of cooperation and open communication between these two departments. Walk side by side with the sales team, understanding their challenges, pain points and goals. Regularly dive into the depths of customer feedback and marketing trends with them. This alignment will fine tune your marketing strategies, ensure you target the right audience with surgical precision. It will also provide the sales team with the support they need to close deals with a flick of their sales cape. I want to come back to one point here I already mentioned though. One of the reasons why sales and marketing alignment is such a hot topic is because so many organizations struggle with it. Maybe even yours. Often this comes down to eroded trust between the two teams. Even with the best of intentions, this can happen. Marketers and sales folks, y' all are incredibly busy serving many masters, including your company's bottom line. So marketers, you need to go out of your way through your work to show sales you are a resource they can actually trust. Who will deliver the resources they need, turn the lights on when they feel in the dark and actually listen to their needs and concerns. Sales folks are ins cases left on an island, expected to be fully self sufficient, show up as their partner and show them they're not alone. Again, you are the conductor of the sales enablement orchestra, seamlessly blending the brilliance of your shared marketing and sales superpowers. To recap, your role as a marketer in sales enablement is a multifaceted masterpiece. You are the creator and deliverer of captivating content, the provider of knowledge and training, and the mastermind behind sales and marketing alignment. By embracing these responsibilities with all your superhero might, you'll empower your sales team to contribute to the resounding success of your organization's sales efforts.
