This is a YouTube video titled "Why Delegation is Hard when Managing a Small Team" containing a monologue or talk recorded on June 14, 2024, discussing the concept of delegation and servant leadership in management. The speaker reflects on traditional versus servant leadership models and introduces principles guiding effective delegation.
When I first started delegating, I heard a lot of people describe management as this, where you are on the top. You have tasks that need to be done or things that need to be accomplished. You push them down to subordinates who help you bring those plans to life. But somewhere along the line, I was exposed to the concept of servant leadership. The idea that the leader of a business, the CEO, in a traditional work chart, is actually on the bottom. With servant leadership and this kind of model, I'm thinking about delegation as a push up. So rather than having gravity just result in task being moved down the organization, I just let go of things and they'll get done for me. Yeah. Instead of that, we use effort. Effort is required to have delegation and successful managerial relationships. And this belief is what fundamentally guides the 16 rules I'm going to go through in this video.
