Quickest Way for Maximum Muscle Growth

Glenn Dawson demonstrates a tempo-contrast squat protocol for rapid muscle growth: 5-5-5 tempo (five seconds down, pause, up) for 3-4 near-max reps, immediately followed by a 1-1-1 tempo drop set for 10-15 reps. He argues varying tempo and load hits all muscle fiber types and produces visible gains within weeks.

The fastest way to build maximum muscle growth. In this video, I'm going to show you exactly the science behind it and give you a demonstration at the end. Hi, I'm Glenn Dawson with Reset U Fitness, and there's science behind building muscle. The first thing you have to get is a balanced out compound movement. In a compound movement like a barbell squat, which we're about to do, you're going to use your glutes, your hamstrings, your quads, all these muscles together. Now, if you have a ton of muscular imbalances and say you do your squat and all you do is you hip hinge and you feel it in your quads, that means you're only working your quads. You're missing all the glute and hamstring, like, build that you can have doing that same exercise. What we do at Reset U Fitness is a quick evaluation. Takes 30 seconds, a cell phone and a broomstick. And with that, we can see every single muscular imbalance in your body, correct them, So then when you do your squats, you're working your entire body at the same time. And it also gets rid of injuries, makes you stronger, everything. But this video is about building muscle purely. Now, the next thing you want to go after once you've got a compound movement, because those build the most muscle, you want to vary tempo, weights, repetitions. Your body's muscle fibers have numerous different types of muscle fibers. Some are slow twitch, some are fast twitch, type 2B. There's numerous different types. So if you're just repping the weight like this, you're only working one type of muscle fiber. If you're only doing sets of 5, you're only working one set of muscle— one type of muscle fiber. If you're doing sets of 15 only, you're only working one type of muscle fiber. So what I'm going to do right now is show you a quick little secret. We're going to do a 5-5-5 tempo squat. And then a drop set right after with a 1-1-1 tempo. Now what we're doing is we're doing a heavier weight with a heavy weight and a slow tempo to work different types of muscles, elongate your concentric, isometric, and eccentric, like, part of the movement. Then we're going to speed it up really fast. If you do this, it will crush and you will gain muscle, and it'll work for any single thing on your body. Shoulder press, chest press, doesn't matter, it'll work. So the first part, you're going to do your 5-5-5 tempo. Lower for 5 seconds. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Pause for 5 seconds and then come up slow for 5 seconds. Now you would do this for, you know, 3 to 4 reps, whatever you can get, maximum exhaustion. Then immediately strip the weights. So if you're doing this with a barbell and bench press, Immediately strip your weights, drop them down while your muscles are still tired, and then go into a 1-1-1 tempo. You're going to do as many reps as you can here, most likely like 10 to 15. Now, if you do that and you go as hard as you possibly can on every single muscle group— your biceps, pull-ups, doesn't matter what it is— you will immediately start to see muscle gains within weeks. You're welcome. Make sure you guys subscribe if you haven't already done so.
