The #1 Hip Mobility Hack I Use with Clients Over 35

Glenn Dawson shows the "Rob move," a hip-flexor stretch using a foam roller as a tripod under your hip. The three-point contact locks your stabilizing muscles, letting you stretch deeper than a standard couch stretch without balancing.

I want to show you a recent breakthrough I had to open up your hips using this foam roller, but it's nothing like you've ever seen. I just recently learned this from a client of mine named Rob. So this is the Rob move, and I use it every single day, no matter how high profile an athlete you are. If you're just getting started, we're not going to use the foam roller to actually foam roll though. What we're going to do is create stability using the foam roll. So let's hypothetically say you're doing a couch stretch or a hip flexor lunge stretch. Using an elevated heel. Now, this is going to put a lot of pressure here on your hip flexor, on your, your quad and everything else, and even stretch your knee joint. This is a great stretch. And most time you want to go back and forth and kind of open and lengthen the tissue. I'm balancing right now, though. So that means as I'm doing this, my body is activating all the muscles around the hip joint and it's kind of locking it in place. So I'm not actually lengthening tissue. And the goal of stretching is to lengthen tissue. Let's say I bring this foam roller right here though. Now I have 3 points of contact, like a tripod of stability. I have this point here, this point here, and the knee back here all at the same time. Now I can go and I get a much deeper stretch all of a sudden. And I thought about this for Rob, 'cause he had balance issues. And then I found out This is actually how everyone should be doing it. You, me, doesn't matter how athletic you are, you should be doing it this way. Now the same thing works for just having your knee on the ground in a less aggressive stretch. You just go into your hip flexor lunge, make sure none of your angles, put your hand down on your stabilizer here, your foam roller, and go back and forth. You're gonna get a better stretch out of the hip itself with the stability here. And all you super good athletes out there, try this out. I promise you, you get much better hip stretch. If you haven't shared this already, share it. People need to know about the Rob.
