FoodDrop

I'm Grace and my teammate is Jessica. Today we'll be presenting our Create a Hack for Food Draw. Meet Mary, a 25 year old widow with three children based in Mississauga, Ontario. Her work hours were cut down due to Covid forcing her to rely on little to no money to sustain her family. The COVID 19 crisis brought a huge impact on the economy. Millions of people like Mary lost their jobs and food security problems worsened. The demand for food banks increased significantly while while their ability to meet demand has plummeted due to sourcing and distribution difficulties. With the lockdown and movement restrictions in place, access to the food banks became harder for elders, people with disabilities and no access to cars. Food Drop is a desktop website used to schedule pickups and deliveries for both food banks and those in need. Users can see what food banks in their area accept donations for. The site will match people in need with donations based on location. The donations are stored at food banks nearby. Users can donate or access donations on the app and indicate pickup, drop off or delivery. Finally, volunteers deliver or pick up donations. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, food banks have not been able to allow volunteers into their facilities. With this app, volunteers can continue supporting their local food banks. Volunteer incentives include hours and a points reward system. Our revenue streams include public and corporate donations and government grants. We can also monetize through advertisements and maintain financial sustainability by offering subscription subscriptions and charging pay what you can services. We could increase and diversify revenue streams by partnering with grocery stores and other companies. Our differentiating factors are accessibility and functionality compared to our counterparts. We offer a streamlined solution to donation, drop up, pickup and delivery. This is what an implementation timeline could possibly look like. This is our website which we used HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create. When users go onto the site, the landing page consists of our headline which shows users that we streamline the food donation, pickup and drop off process and gives users the opportunity to enter a location, category, keyword and search. Below this we have a popular items section which goes through items which are requested hypothetically the most from food banks. We also have a featured Items section that will allow users to see what food is available and what items are heavily in demand from food banks nearby. Finally, we have an about page that displays our project and helps users find out more. Additionally, we also created some mobile designs for an app this would complement our site and we had additional time and resources we would have definitely continued. These interfaces include a map and a calendar. In terms of growth, this is really the first time where I really did some front end, as I usually just did business.
