Chaplin

Our ministry is very. A lot of people call it very, er, driven. Or if you've seen an episode of mash, we're kind of like Father Mulcahy. We kind of move around and follow what's happening. But we have a separate role to it. Chaplains are also non combatants. So we're going to go on to the next room here. We have nine chapel assistants here. Don't get me wrong, they are great clerks and they're helpers and they do all of our admin and they set up all the worship services. You know, this room gets used on a Sunday by eight different denominations, so it changes character all day long. And the chaplain assistant is doing that. They do all of our memos. They do all these things, but their first job is to defend us. The United States agrees to continue the convention. What that means is chaplains do not carry weapons. I am an armed, unarmed person in the combat zone. I've been to Iraq. I can't say I liked it. Running around there without a gun. I didn't like it at all. But a chaplain does not carry a weapon, period. The chaplain assistants do. So we make sure they get the rifle range every year.
