Well, I think I'm live now. So I'm Guy Kawasaki and I am in Santa Cruz, California right now. And live it is 8:43pm in California, so I just started this myself. Usually I have someone helping me. So send them. Send a. Send a comment to let me know that I'm really live because I am not quite sure there. Brad Jenkins. What's up? Okay, Brad. So at least I know I'm live on Facebook. So it's been quite an exciting week here in the US of A. You didn't, didn't. Man, I gotta tell you something. So Joe Biden has been president for, I don't know, a day and a half and oh my God, I feel like enormous cloud. Not just cloud, smog fog, freaking air pollution, water pollution, you name it, has been lifted from the United States. And I swear I sleep better. I get up. Joe Biden has done more to fight the virus in the first 36 hours that Donald Trump has done in freaking one year. Anthony Fauci is unleashed. Man, life is good. So I can see comments at least from Facebook, LinkedIn. Do I see from Periscope? No, Facebook and LinkedIn. So yeah, Fred, you want to know my cameras here? I think you can highlight questions. Where'd Fred go? Yeah, how's that, huh? Mastering this. Okay, so who did my light, lighting and camera set up? Me. What? I don't even know who Roger Deakins is. Is that an insult or compliment? Because I don't know who he is. So, yeah, this is what I have going on here, which is why I'm going live now. I want to test this system. I have a Sony A7C there with 55 millimeter 1.8. I think I have a ring light. I have two other lights pointed at the ceiling. And this is a SHURE XLR microphone. And let me know, get comfortable here. Let me know if the sound and video is good because you never know. Yeah. Thank you. Do I angel invest in startups? Man, I used to, but honestly I very seldom do. Now kind of retired from investing. I still advise a few companies. And just between you and me, I don't need to buy stock anymore. So if people want my help, they give me options. I don't have to buy my way into a company. So that's how it works for me now. So let's see. Oh, man, come. Comments are flying by so fast. Oh my God. Where? I just saw a question. Where did it go? Okay. I used to love you, but the way you open this chat. Thin idiot. Keep politics Out. Hey, Chad, don't watch me then. You know, I mean, what can I say? It's my podcast or not my podcast. It's my live feed. You don't like what I talk about, you know, don't watch. I mean, if I turn the TV on, it's Fox and I don't want to watch Fox. I don't watch you turn the TV on cnn. You don't want to watch. Change the channels. Change the channel. You know, we're all free here. Go for it. Let's see. Sound good, Sound good. All good. You're good. Sound and video is awesome. Let's see. You like the. I like the LI interface better than Facebook, Christine. I must admit that 90% of the time, actually, 99% of the time, I am creating content, not consuming content. So I don't know what the difference is on the receiving side of a live video on Facebook or a live video on LinkedIn, because I've honestly never watched either of them. So let's see. Tell us about your surfing. How is it going? So, yeah, I live in Santa Cruz and I surf roughly every day if the tide is right. I surf twice a day. So today I surfed from. Let's see, I got Corona tested at 9:30. I was home at 10. Probably I was in the water at 10:30 and I got out of the water at 1 o'. Clock. So I was in the water for two and a half hours. And I caught 21 waves. And I know that because I use an app called Dawn Patrol that also works with Surfline, and so that tracks your wave count. And Surfline will show you exactly what time you caught the wave and show you the video of you on the wave, which is like the world's coolest thing. You know, I have an Apple watch kind of just for that. Let's see, let's see. Remember your autograph Inside Early Max. You know, Jerry, I'm trying to remember now. I don't think my autograph was inside the Early Max because as I recall, I started in January of 1984. Senile 1984. No, excuse me. I started in September of 83 and only the first. About 32 people signed the inside of a Mac. And I wasn't one of the first 32, so I don't think my signature is on the inside of a Mac. Let's see what inspires drives, motivates me every day to get up and do things. Well, I have two tuitions to pay and a mortgage. That's what inspires me. Let's see. Have you heard of outdoorsy? I. Honestly, Jennifer, I have not. I. I would not say that I'm one of the great outdoors kind of people, you know, Like, I'm just not. Although. Although I have a Peace Vans made by a mattress that was converted by Peace Vans to be a, you know, weekend camper. So it has a pop top, sleeps two on the top, two on the bottom. So got a bench seat that folds down so you can sleep. It's got a cabinet in the back for your stove, and there's a table you can put. And the two front seats turn 180 degrees. I have a toilet in the mattress, so I can. But I just. I. I am just not a, you know, back to nature kind of guy, but I use it for day trips I love. So I'm a brand ambassador for Peace Fans. So if you're interested in a mattress. And the reason why I bought a mattress is because the Sprinter was just too much. It was too much money, too big to everything. But a mattress. Mattress is kind of a. I'd say it's 25% bigger than an Odyssey or Sienna, which is, you know, doable. But sprinter is just 2x, you know, a Sienna or an Odyssey too much for me. Okay, so let's see. Foreign. Let's see here. I have a really amazing pics with you. You with your camera, me with my camera. Oh, so that's kind of meta. So were you taking a picture of me and I took a picture of you? Because I did that a lot. That's cool. Let's see. What. Okay, Willem. Willem. I am on Clubhouse. So I. The only reason I went on Clubhouse is these. Because I wanted to grab my name before somebody else grabbed me. Grabbed it. So I have it. And I just. I haven't gone on it because just I guess I should. But just the concept of talking to more people, it's just not attractive to me. Willem, I don't want to be in a room where people are talking to me and like, like, I like this. This is one too many. But, man, I am just. I. I don't want freaking 30 people pitching me with their dumbass ideas at once. How's that? But, Willem, I take it you're in Asia right now. And. Oh, Willem, I might buy an E450 All Terrain or I'll tell you something. I like the mattress conversion from Peace Fans so much, I might buy another one because my family, there's three of us who love it. My wife, my second oldest son, and I. And so we're constantly fighting for the mattress. And so I just may buy another mattress. And this is a 1% problem, but I'm either going to buy another mattress, I'm gonna buy E50 All Terrain or a Porsche Cayenne plug in hybrid. So you can cast your votes, everybody. So Cayenne, Metris or E450 wagon, cast your votes. Let's see. Guy, nice to hear you. Please share the objective of this live feed. I don't know. Kill time, have fun, engage. What a concept. Well, actually, I really, I have one very tactical thing. So I am testing my live a conferencing setup. And as I told people before, I'm running a Sony A7C with a 55 millimeter 1.8 lens ring light, two other lights pointed to the top XLR microphone. I use an ATM mini to do the mixing. And the experiment I'm doing now is that I used to set the camera to autofocus. And the theory is with autofocus, no matter how you move, you're in focus, Right. The problem with that theory that I noticed last week is that whenever you move, the camera's trying. And so people watching you, you know, the thing is shifting in and out all the time. So now I have it on manual focus. I'll show you. So notice that it didn't come into focus. And that's because I have it on manual focus. And the reason why I want it on manual focus is as long as I more or less stay in this plane, it will be focused. The camera doesn't have to shift and hunt or, you know, try to autofocus. And I think that's a lot less distracting. So, you know, basically what I did is I put my hand where my face would be. Okay. And then I. There's a button on the back of the Sony camera and that button you press it manually focuses. And so once it focuses on my hand, which is roughly where my face would be, once my hand is in focus, then the focal point won't shift and then my face can be there and I'm in focus and the camera won't shift. So there's a lot of thought going on. I have worked literally weeks and weeks trying to figure out how to do this. So it is not trivial task. Let's see, What is it that pulls you back after a downfall? Any tips on how not to lose on hope? Well, I mean, knock on wood, I haven't had really like epic downfalls. I was in Apple when it was difficult. I was in Apple from 83 to 87 and 95 to 97. And right after I left in 97, it really did well, maybe because I left in 97. So honestly, I, I got, I, I pre, pre Yank. I can't tell you that I've, you know, really just recovered from this horrendous problem. I'm, I'm a lucky guy. Probably the worst thing that happened to me is Mercedes ended. It's a brand ambassador program. Hint, hint, Willem. And so I had to buy a Mercedes. Oh. You see, when you lean back like that, you go out of focus. But I just will train myself not to lean back because I'd rather have this where I'm constantly in focus, if I remember to stay in this plane, than for the camera to be constantly hunting. So Metris. A Metris is a Mercedes van. It's not a minivan. You know, a minivan is like a Pacifica or Sienna or an Odyssey. A Metris is a full size van, not a minivan. So it's a van van. And it has been converted by a company called Peace Vans in Seattle to be more of a weekender and camper van. So the, the beauty of a mattress is that for me anyway, I use, I go surfing a lot and usually I use a 10 foot board and I can stick a 10 foot. I can spare, I could stick two 10 foot boards inside the minivan. Excuse me, inside the mattress, rather than having to put it on the roof and strap it down. So just the ability to just throw your board in the, in the van, the mattress and go is a big deal for me. So that's why I have a mattress. All right, so let's see. Okay. Setting the camera to F4 if it gives you a focus fudge factor if you're moving your head far enough. Ed. I realized that. But I have this camera set to, I think, 1.8. And the reason why I have it set to 1.8 is, is because I understand that this gives me much less of a focus fudge factor. But I love bokeh, or bokeh, depending on how you believe it should be pronounced. And so you see how all that stuff back there is out of focus. I love that. I just love when the background is out of focus. So if I went to F4 or F5.6, it would be more in focus. So I'm willing to have less of a fudge factor in order to have more bouquet. That's why there is. Ed, believe it or not, I think all these things through. It's not that I'm stupid. So let's see here. Oh, Brad Jenkins puts up Peace Van Seattle. Thank you. You okay? So here, Jennifer Young says that I can rent1@outdoorsy.com But Jennifer, I own one, so why would I need to rent one? But yeah, for those of you who don't own a metric piece, vans outdoorsy.com. jennifer, there's a plug for you. Okay, let's see. Oh, yeah. See, Ed agrees with me. You see, Ed, I am not talking out of my ass. I know what I'm doing here. Okay, so here's a. What is your opinion about cryptocurrency? I must admit, I do not understand cryptocurrency. I think it's just a form of gambling and legalized. But I must admit that, you know, I have enough gambles with my stock options and the things I've invested in and all that. So, you know, when I cash out, I want to get paid in a currency that, you know, when I go to bed and I wake up, it's roughly the same value. I don't want to go to bed and find out that, you know, the currency has gone from $33,000 a unit to $20,000 a unit overnight, and I did nothing. So on the other hand, yeah, I know I could go to bed and it's 20,000 and wake up it's 30,000. But. But I just want a state. I want to be paid in a stable currency. I don't want to gamble on a currency. I must admit, I do not understand cyber currency. So call me an idiot, right? So let's see, huh? Jennifer, you are just hitting a jackpot with endorsements tonight. So peace, fans, is on endorse, is on outdoorsy. So we are connected. Well, there you go, Jennifer. I hope your phones ring off the hook. Let's see. Are there any other questions here? Well, hi. And Feeny Balboa. Our sons played together in hockey. Let's see. Finney. I do not play hockey anymore. I completely gave up hockey about six years ago. Nick still plays hockey, but I've given up hockey because I just love to surf. I just love surfing. And I surf once or twice a day every day. Let's see here. I think I got all the questions and. Oh, so can I just implore you to go to remarkable people.com, because that's my podcast. This week is Rick Smolin. So if you have any interest in photography, you can. You have got to listen to Rick Smolin. He is the guy who created the books the A Day in the Life of Australia, Soviet Union, America. Great photographer, used to work for National Geographic. He's the one of the figures, two figures in the movie Tracks about the woman who walked across the outback of Australia by herself with two camels. So great photographer. So he's this Wednesday. So remarkablepeople.com last Wednesday was Julia Cameron, the author of the Author. The author of the Artist's Way. The week before that was a very special episode where I compiled interviews with nine social psychology and behavioral science people answering one simple question. How do we get more people to get vaccinated? Because I think that that, that is the biggest short term challenge the whole world faces, which is the pandemic. The biggest long term challenge that the whole world faces is climate change. But arguably, if we don't solve the pandemic, climate change won't matter. And if we do solve the pandemic, then climate change will matter. So we got to take care of those two things. So if you want to listen to social psychologists and behaviorists like Bob Cialdini explain how to get people to get vaccinated, go back two and a half weeks in Remarkable People. So it's Remarkable people dot com. Duh. And the name of the podcast is Remarkable People. And let's see. I think. Okay, this is funny. Greta got a signed copy your books in 2019 at 1440. Multiversity. Okay, still working through chapter two. So you're reading one chapter every year so in 26. Oh, in 26 years I'll be dead, man. You better, you better pick up the pace, Greta, or I'll be finished before the book is finished. Oh, my God, that is funny. So, okay, everybody, I gotta go edit my podcast. So it's been nice talking to you. Have a great evening. And remember, wash your hands, stay out of crowded places, and wear a mask. And when you can get vaccinated, get vaccinated. And. Oh, there is a great parody. I forget the guy's name. It's Noah something. He did a great parody. And I'll give you a little song here. Not that I can sing, but one of the great lines in this parody is. The great line in his parody is wear a mask. Wear a mask. Get your head out of your ass. Go look up that parody. All right, take care, everybody. Good night. Bye.
