Guy Kawasaki defines what it means to be a mensch: help people who can't help you back, expect nothing in return, and help as many people as possible. He calls it the highest accomplishment for an entrepreneur.
Chapters
This is the last topic in this series, the Art of Being a Mensch. A mensch is a person widely respected, generous, trustworthy, the highest form of praise. It's almost difficult to translate into English. And so, at the end of your life, you want to be labeled as a mensch. And how do you become this mensch? First thing, you help people who cannot help you. A mensch doesn't help people because they want to get something back. It's because you get the sheer joy, the pure joy for helping people. So help people who cannot necessarily help you back. Next thing is help without the expectation of return. It is pure. It is truly pure, the sheer joy of helping. And the third thing is help a lot of people. Don't hide it under a bushel. Don't just save it for a few special cases. Help a lot of people without the expectation of return. And help people who cannot help you. You'll be a bench. And there is no higher form of accomplishment as an entrepreneur than to be. Be a match. Okay?
