In this instructional YouTube video, Ayurveda health coach Hadlee Garrison guides viewers through the preparation of a vata‑pacifying grain bowl, a meal designed to balance the vata dosha especially during the fall and early winter season. She explains the Ayurvedic rationale for the dish, outlines flexible ingredient choices (white basmati rice or other grains, carrots, radish greens, radishes, celery), and demonstrates step‑by‑step cooking: rinsing and pressure‑cooking the grain in an Instant Pot, lightly steaming the vegetables, and creating a ginger‑turmeric‑lemon dressing with olive oil, lemon juice, ginger, turmeric, and black pepper. The video emphasizes simplicity, digestibility, and seasonal alignment, while also promoting her "Happy Healthy Habits" coaching program and encouraging viewers to subscribe for more Ayurvedic health content.

Let's make a vata-pacifying grain bowl together. I've been an Ayurveda health coach and lifestyle change guide for the past 4 years, and eating in a way that balances any doshas that are kind of out of whack for you makes a huge difference in your health and happiness. So I wanted to share this recipe with you so that you can whip together a quick, easy, and nourishing meal in order to balance your vata and really feel that health and happiness yourself. This meal is great for vata season, which happens in the fall and early winter, but it can also be great during any season when you're feeling like you've got a vata imbalance going on, or maybe you're just feeling like, I just need something that's Simple and easy to digest. And if you're like, wait, Hadley, what the heck are you talking about? What is vata? Check out my Ayurveda dosha videos to learn more on that. So we're just going to start with one cup of whatever grain you choose. I'm using White basmati rice, which is easy on the digestion, but you can use whatever grain you want. You can use quinoa, you can use barley, you can use farro, you can use a different kind of rice. The options are endless. So you want to rinse your rice or whatever other grain you have so that you can get all of the excess stuff off of there. Then add it to the Instant Pot. So typically I would add ghee or butter to my rice, but I'm actually out of it right now, so I'm just going to use a little bit more olive oil later in the ginger turmeric dressing. So then you add a cup of water, and this is going to change based on how— what kind of grain you actually use, so you can just look that up online. Next, we're going to add some salt. And the rice is ready to start cooking. So while this is cooking, it's gonna take a little bit of time, so we're going to get to the rest of the ingredients. So we're just gonna look in the fridge to see what I have because that's kind of how I cook. We're gonna grab some carrots. These are radish greens. We're gonna grab the radishes as well and some celery. So now all my vegetables are cut, and because it's vata season, we are going to cook our vegetables. We're just gonna do a quick little steam. Now because I washed the vegetables beforehand, there's a little bit of water on there, so I don't even need to add any water to the pan. And we just put it on low for a little bit, and you can do it as long or as short as you want. I like it a little bit on the lighter cooked side, but you can cook it longer if that's easier for you to digest. You can just play around with it. So while the veggies are cooking, it's time to start making the dressing. Start off by peeling the ginger, and then you're going to grate it. Now we're just going to add this to the Dressing container. We're gonna juice 2 lemons. We're gonna make enough so that you have extras for later. Add to your ginger. So this came to about almost half a cup, so we're gonna add just a little bit more than half a cup of olive oil. Then you're gonna add a half teaspoon of turmeric. Some black pepper. Then we're going to add the lid and shake it up. You can do this with a mason jar or really any— anything that you can still shake it. So it looks like our vegetables are good to go. Scoop some rice for the base and then add your dressing. Enjoy.
