Set Happy, Healthy Goals That Actually STICK this New Year!

In this motivational coaching video, the presenter reflects on the common failure of New Year’s resolutions—citing that about 75% fall apart by February—and explains why they often fail: lack of true commitment, external or judgment‑based goal setting, and reliance on willpower. She proposes a shift from vague resolutions to authentic, self‑aligned commitments rooted in self‑love and acceptance. The video guides viewers through a step‑by‑step process: (1) a free‑form brain‑dump of big‑picture desires for the year, (2) envisioning the future self who can achieve those desires, (3) breaking down the vision into concrete actions, habits, beliefs, and needed support, (4) selecting and refining goals that feel exciting, and (5) addressing limiting beliefs. She emphasizes that lasting change comes from structured habit formation, accountability, and community rather than sheer willpower. The presenter then introduces her “Happy Healthy Habits” coaching program, highlighting its step‑by‑step structure, personalized mindset and nervous‑system work, and the power of a growth‑oriented community. The video ends with calls to action to join the program, watch related content on behavior change, and subscribe for more wellness guidance.

I love the new year. It's always so fun to be able to dream about the things that I want to achieve, the places I want to go, the person I want to become, the impact I really want to make on the world. And I used to have sort of a fraught relationship with the new year because I would put things off until January 1st. And then I'd tell myself that I would start then, I would overhaul my whole life. And then, you know, Of course, only stick to my resolutions for a few weeks, maybe a few months, maybe only a few days, and then I would fall back off. But now it's so fun for me because I actually keep my resolutions to myself. And today is all about that. Why resolutions usually fail, how to honor the new year in a way that feels super aligned for you. So get out your journal and join me. If you haven't subscribed to my channel yet, hit the subscribe button and the bell to be notified every time I post a new video about creating a happier, healthier mind, body, and life. Let's start by talking about why New Year's resolutions typically fail. 75% of them actually fail before February, so like in January. And I don't want that for you because even if you're not part of the 75% that fail before February, it's likely that you typically fall off at some point New Year's resolutions fail because we think of them as this nice thing that we're going to try to do, but then we don't really commit to them. So there's a really great quote from Yoda, which I'm sure you've heard before, and he says, do or do not, there is no try. I used to hate that quote because I thought that I really was trying and it just wasn't working. But then I realized that I was trying, And, you know, of course there's a way to try and just not succeed. But once I actually committed to myself, which required investing my money, my time, my energy, I finally understood what he was talking about. So today we're going to make decisions, commitments, rather than resolutions that, you know, might be nice to do this year. And I'm going to show you how to do that in a way that actually feels aligned for you. Another reason resolutions fail is because they're either goals that someone else wants, or someone else told us that we should want, or they're based on the person that we're tired of being rather than the version of ourselves that we really want to step into next. This is a pretty disempowering way of looking at it. You know, oh, I'm sick of the person that I'm, that I've been, and so I want to change myself, rather than just getting excited about becoming the person that you want to be. And so when we come from a place of judgment, it's actually a lot harder to make changes. This is backed up by behavior change research. And when we come from a place of accepting ourselves for who we are and then just like being excited about upleveling, that's how we make long-term change. So I'm here to help you set intentions and goals to help you become more of who you are and to really just step into integrity with your true self and the person that you know that you can be. So rather than coming from a place of guilt or shame or dislike for yourself, we're going to infuse all of this with self-love and acceptance. And we're going to make goals based on what's authentic to who you really are rather than someone that's something, something that someone told you that you really should want. I'm not gonna be telling you what to do. This is all for you to actually decide for yourself. You have full autonomy over your desires. You don't have to do things that someone else told you that you should want. I want you to really feel empowered here. So let's start by writing out all of those things that you really and truly want. I want you to go really big here. I want you to not hold back. Don't worry about the how right now. Just what do you want? This can be a total brain dump. There are no bad ideas. There's no right or wrong here. And if you write it down, you can always go back and you can cross it out or you can edit it. This is not set in stone. Doing this really breaks us out of our normal paradigm of thinking about things that we should want or things that are quote unquote realistic. So we're not going for realistic right now, and that can come later. Right now we're just dreaming super big. What do you want to be, do, and have in The new year or in this next phase of your life? If it's not the new year when you're watching this, do you want to have vibrant health or take better care of your body? Do you want to have more energy each morning when you wake up? Or maybe you want to have better quality sleep each night. Maybe there's a specific business or monetary goal that you want to achieve, or maybe you want to have certain health markers or fitness abilities. Do you want to have a better relationship with food or your body? Maybe you just want to have a better relationship with yourself overall. Do you want to have better relationships? Do you want to start a new romantic relationship this year? Or maybe you want to have a better work situation, or maybe you want to just uplevel your current work situation. Maybe you want to have a greater capacity to make a difference in the world. Maybe you want to travel more. Maybe you want to have other specific experiences this year? Or maybe you want to find the home of your dreams. I want you to just write it all out. Again, don't edit yourself, just write it all down. I want you to pause the video and then come back once you've written it all out. And then who do you need to become in order to achieve these things? Who is that version of you that's able to be, do, and have this life that you've written out? So you can use the sentence stem like, I'm becoming the kind person who, or maybe you sketch it out. Maybe you draw out this version of yourself. So what characteristics do you have? You know, how do you wake up in the morning? How do you feel in your body, your mind, your spirit? How do you interact in relationships? What kind of relationships do you have? What kind of impact do you have on the world? What does that person— what does that person's day-to-day life look like? You know, what feelings do you have? More often than not. Write it all out, sketch it all out. Be creative here. Be as creative and have as much fun with this as you want. Do all of this and then you can come back. Now we get into the nitty-gritty where we break it down and we think about how to make this a reality. Write down what needs to happen for you to become that person that you just identified. What needs to change in your life? What actions, what behaviors, What beliefs, what habits, maybe tangible exercises or therapies or modalities or skills that you need to acquire, whatever it might be. And then I also want you to write down who could you ask for help. So maybe it's family or friends, coaches, therapists, doctors, bodyworkers. And again, pause the video and come back. And now that you've written all of that out, consolidate that list and write out the specific goals that are going to support the person that you want to become. And then take stock. So you get to decide, does each goal that you wrote down feel really good to you? I want you to circle the ones that feel really good, that make you feel fully excited and super lit up. And if it does feel really good, then these are the ones The ones that you're circling, these are the decisions for the new year. These are your commitments for the new year. And if there are any shoulds that don't really resonate with you, if there's any— there are any goals that don't really make you feel lit up and excited, I want you to just leave it. You can always come back to it. Or if you feel like there's something there that you are really excited about, but maybe there's some aspect about it that doesn't feel quite right, I invite you to change it. So that it does feel good when you think about it. One example might be that the thought of running every day doesn't actually feel good in your body, but the idea of doing some other movement maybe does feel really good. And so you can change that. Or maybe you have a limiting belief that says, oh, I can't actually achieve that. So maybe you write down all of the limiting beliefs that you have and you ask yourself if they are actually true. And then maybe you shift them so that you can actually start to believe that you can achieve that goal. And now you've got your New Year's decisions, your New Year's commitments. How does it feel? It should feel really freaking exciting. Now that you've identified what you really want, you can start the work of actually implementing the structure and the habits to actually get there. You can't just You can't just create these decisions, goals, resolutions, or whatever you want to call them, and then willpower your way through them. That is the other reason that so many resolutions fail. Willpower does not work. Habit change does work. You really need the structure, the behavior change strategy, the accountability, and the guidance to actually start implementing these things. You can do it on your own, but it's a lot more work. It's a lot less efficient. It's a lot less fun. So you might be able to implement some of these things here and there, but in order to make progress toward your goal, the guidance, structure, and community is really, really, really crucial. The good news is that that's really— that's what I help people do. And I love doing it. It's It's so important to come up with aligned goals in order to actually start designing the kind of life you want to live and become the person you want to be, which is what we just did here together. So in order to get to where you want to go, you're going to have to do things that you've never done before. And that is where I can help. So my signature Happy Healthy Habits coaching program has all of the structure, the guidance, the support, to really help you get there. It's a step-by-step program to help you implement the essential health habits and other success habits to get you feeling the way that you really want to feel in your mind, body, and spirit, and showing up with the capacity that you want to have to make a difference in the world. So in it, I help you tailor everything to your own needs, and I also implement the mindset and nervous system shifts that you need to actually follow through on your goals. And arguably the most important part is the community in this program. One-on-one coaching can really only get you so far. In order to get the biggest bang for your buck, you really wanna be immersed in a growth-oriented community. Getting advice from one person is one thing, but getting support from multiple people who care about you and have the same goals, who are on the same growth path, is really a whole nother level. So when it's facilitated in the right way with the right structure, group wisdom is really so much more than the sum of its parts, and it helps you grow in ways that you never even imagined were possible for you.
