3 Reasons You're Not Hearing From God
6 Aug 2019 · 13 min
In this episode Hannah Keeley addresses Christian mothers who feel they are not hearing from God. She explains that God is always speaking, but three common obstacles prevent listeners from perceiving His voice. First, the "mental noise" of daily busyness, emotional drama, and inner dialogue drowns out the still, small voice of God; Keeley urges listeners to simplify their mental clutter and treat tasks as neutral actions rather than sources of anxiety. Second, a low "love volume"—unforgiveness, bitterness, and lingering anger—diminishes the spiritual frequency at which God communicates; she advises turning up love by releasing resentment and cultivating biblical love. Third, many people tune into their feelings rather than Scripture, mistaking emotions for divine direction; Keeley stresses the importance of aligning thoughts and decisions with the Word of God, treating the Bible as the correct “station” for hearing God. Throughout, she intersperses promotional messages for Mom Mastery’s online university and a free Mom Show starter kit, positioning her coaching resources as tools to help mothers implement the three steps. The episode concludes with encouragement and a personal note of support.

Do you ever feel like you're just not hearing from God? Like your prayers are going nowhere? You just want to know he's real. He's there. He hears you. I'm going to tell you the three reasons you may not be hearing from God today.
Here's the big question. How are these average, everyday moms getting radical results in their lives? How are they able to transform their health, money, families, homes, and have fun doing it?
The trick?
We're not average.
I'm Hannah Keeley, and I'm going to spill our secrets and answer your questions.
Right now in that mom show.
All right? So it's something that I hear from a lot of moms. We want to hear from God. We want to know he's real, that he's there for us, that he hears us and he's present and we're intimate with Him. And sometimes we just need some direction in our lives. We want to have an answer, and we're not hearing anything from God. We're like, God, are you there, there, there. You know, like, it's just, like, echoing out there and nothing comes back to you. Well, I want to tell you about the three reasons that usually you're not hearing from God. Because the thing is, God is always speaking. He's always speaking to his kids. And the problem is not on his end. He's not silent. The problem is on our end, for some reason, we're not tuning in. Like, we're not hearing it. There's something else going on. And so the best way is not what do we need to add to our lives, but sometimes what do we need to subtract? Well, actually, there's one subtraction, one adding, and then another variable that you really need to know about. So these are the three reasons. The first reason we're going to get right to it today, because today I want you to be intimate with God, to know the intimacy, to hear from him and to tune in. Now, the number one reason, and I'm going to tell you number one, because this is definitely the problem with moms, okay? This is. It's not unique to us, but it's something that I think we all struggle with as moms, is we're not hearing from God because our lives are just too noisy. There's just too many things going on. We're too busy. And this is. I know what you're initially thinking, Hannah. I can't stop the busyness. I can't stop the noise. Like, my kids need me, the chores need me. Like, the laundry's not going to fold itself, and the bills aren't going to pay themselves. And I've got to show up for work, and I can't, like, turn this down. What I mean by this turning down the noise level so you can hear from God. Because God's not going to. He can scream over the noise, but he's not going to. So one thing that I actually heard that in a sermon this Sunday, like, he can scream over the noise, but he chooses not to. We all know from the story in Isaiah that he speaks in a still, small voice. Like, yeah, there's the. There's a thunder, there's a storm, there's the earthquake, there's a fire. And that's usually what is consuming us. But God, he speaks in a still, small voice. And we want to live a life where we're tuned in to that voice. So you got to turn down the noise level. I'm not talking about all the things that we do because we can't necessarily alter that. I'm talking about the mental noise that drives everything we do. And this is what I mean by that. You can. Actually, I was hearing someone complain today, and. No, not today. Like, this is very early in the morning. I haven't heard a complaint today. Thank you, Jesus. So this was days ago, complaining about mopping her floors. And it's always the mental energy. It's not really the action of mopping your floors because there's just a floor and there's a mop, and you just push it back and forth. Like, that's the math, right? That's. That's the facts, Jack. We bring the drama into it. We're like, oh, my floors, they get dirty so much. And then, like, you can always see the dirt on them, and you can't neglect it. I feel like I'm always having to mop over. That's just the drama about it. And that's what I'm talking about. The drama behind the math, the emotion behind the stats, the facts. So when I say mental noise, it is all that emotional drama that we put behind the things that we do, behind the laundry, behind building our business, behind making calls, behind paying the bills, behind managing everything in the house and running the errands. It's the emotional drama because we'll spend an hour thinking and talking and doing inner dialogue about decluttering a room, and then we spend about 10 minutes actually doing it. So the math takes a lot less time. It's the drama that consumes. Consumes so much of us. So we have to turn down the drama, turn down the inner dialogue. All the mental drama that you're putting behind, the stuff you have to do, it's just stuff. We just do it. We put it on our map. And I hope you know what a map is, because if you don't, you've got to get inside Mom Master University and know how to operate a map. That's how we run our days, by our mundane action plan. So, so you have to just put in the map and you just do it. No drama behind it. So that's one thing. You've got to turn down the noise of your life. The inner dialogue, the mental noise, the emotional drama in your life. Turn it down. It just is what it is. It's clutter. We clean it, it's a bill, we pay it, it's a phone call. We make it. We don't add the drama to it because the drama sucks. Not just our time, but it sucks our energy up as well. And it's so loud we can't hear from God. Turn down the noise and turn up. This is number two. We already talked about number one. Number two, turn up the love.

Now God speaks in love. Because God is love. And you're not going to be able to hear from him if your love volume is so low. So just like you have to turn down the noise, you have to turn up the love. Because all of God's blessings, and it says this in the Bible, they, they rest on the law of love. So if you want to get direction for your life, if you want to have promises unfold before you, if you want the manifestation of his will in your life, if you want the blessing, the sustenance, the joy, the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control. If you want to see the fruit harvested in your life, it all hinges on love. It all rests on love. If you don't have love that is loud in your life, you're not going to hear from God. You hear from God when you turn up the love. That's how you turn up his volume. And hear from him as you turn up the love in your life. So if there's anything in you that's operating with bitterness, unforgiveness, you're holding anger towards someone, someone has wronged you, you still haven't let it go. You're still going through conversations in your head. Well, you know what I would have said to that person? I would have said, blah, blah, blah, you know, just to kind of make yourself feel high and mighty when you really didn't say anything at all. And you probably wouldn't anyway. Oh, you know it. You know we do this. You know we do this. So when you're still going rehearsing anger, when you're rehearsing doing the poor me thing, like, this person did me wrong and let me, like, talk about it all day. Let me, like, dwell on. On this person and how irritated I am about his or her behavior. You, when you're doing that, you are turning the volume down. God so low that it's almost imperceptible. You can't hear it. You've got to turn up the love in your life. That's why the Bible, it says, look, if you are coming with your offerings and you remember that you have anything against someone, you better hustle your buns on over there, make that problem right, and then bring your offerings into the temple. Like, don't think that you can tithe your way or pray your way into this inner sanctum. We can come boldly into the throne, but that's because love allows it to happen. So you can't harbor anger and discontent and unforgiveness and bitterness and frustration with any of God's children and think that you're going to hear from God. You won't. You've got to turn up that love in your life that so, so important. And the last thing, number one, was turn down the noise. Number two, turn up the love. Number three, and this is vital, y'. All. I see so many people neglect. This is you tune in to the right station. God speaks through his word. Sometimes we just want to think that we can just imagine our way to hear from God. Or sometimes we'll, like, put words in our own heads and attribute them to God. When it's an emotion or feeling and you can't trust your feelings. I mean, the heart is deceitfully wicked sometimes. It'll lead us into some really poor places. So what you need to do is make sure you're tuning into the right station. And that is his word. You've got to go to His Word every day. Because God will never tell you to do something that is outside of His Word. And so if you're living in His Word, if you're studying it, if you're like immersed in His Word daily, then you're not going to make an error in misjudgment. You're not going to tune into the wrong station. You're going to hear from God and you can back it in His Word so you can go boldly into the direction that he's telling you to go because His Word says that. And sometimes I think we'll make a decision because it was an emotion or feeling. Then we'll pray for God to just bless it. Like, can you please bless this decision I made or bless this path I'm taking. And you know what? God wants to bless you, but he also wants you to seek him to know. Because it says His Word is a lamp to our feet, a light to our path. We want His Word to guide us and to direct us. And we want to make those decisions that are in line with His Word so that we can get that blessing. So sometimes the reason you're not hearing from God is you're listening to your emotions and that's what gets you in trouble instead of listening to your emotions. So, well, I feel like I need to do this. Well, that's good. You know, that could change in four hours. You know, I feel like I need. I just. My marriage is over and like, we, we can't fix this and we just need to go our separate ways. Like, I really feel that way. And then like the next day, you guys had a great conversation. You had an awesome day together. Yeah, we're good. Good. So you really need to not go by feelings because your feelings can deceive you. It can be weather dependent, it can be diet dependent, it can be hormonal dependent. Like you don't know sometimes why you feel a certain way. And also the feelings are a result of your thinking. And you don't know why you're thinking a certain thought because you're not doing the deep work of the thought work. So when I'm telling you, make sure you're tuned into the right station. Make sure you're listening to God, but listening to God through His Word, you're tuned into it. You're claiming his promises that are in His Word over your life and you will never, ever, ever go wrong if you do that. If you, number one, turn down the mental noise, number two, turn up the love, and number three, tune into the right station which is the word of God. Know that I love you, I support you, I am cheering you on and I'm your number one fan.
