#345 - Barbie Childers | Demon Slayer
16 Feb 2023 · 28 min
In this episode of the Hannah Keeley Podcast, host Hannah Keeley and guest Barbie Childers discuss how Christians can move beyond traditional religiosity to live in the "full manifestation" of Christ’s power. They begin with a light‑hearted anecdote about Barbie’s jellyfish sting and using urine for relief, which segues into a deeper conversation about the need for believers to exercise authority to heal, cast out demons, and preach the gospel. Barbie critiques how church traditions have stolen the "benefits package" God offers, emphasizing the Greek concept of sozo (salvation, healing, and deliverance) as a unified experience. They explore the roles of repentance, desperation versus inspiration, and the importance of humility, surrender, and consistent study of Scripture. The dialogue highlights spiritual warfare, the danger of condemnation, the necessity of forgiveness, and the metaphor of the church as the bride of Christ awaiting revival. Practical advice is offered on navigating wilderness seasons, seeking community, and trusting the Holy Spirit as comforter and teacher. The episode ends with encouragement for listeners in dry seasons to lean into repentance, humility, and the promised presence of God.

All right, welcome to the Hannah Keeley Podcast. But it's not just Hannah Keeley. Today I got my good friend Barbie Childers. And let me tell you a little bit about Barbie, because we have breakfast together every week, and all we do is go and, like, slay demons and talk about manifestation and miracles and signs and wonders. So I'm like, we got to bring some of this to the podcast. But here's what I want to know. Do we talk first about how to operate in the full manifestation of Jesus, or do we talk about you getting stung by a jellyfish and peeing on it? So what should we talk about first? Because we got to go to both of those.
I think. I think we all start with that one first. Okay.
The jellyfish. Okay. So you got stung by a jellyfish on your leg. Yes. Now, you said you peed on it, and it was immediate relief. But this is what I want to know. Did you pee in a cup and pour it on your leg, or did you actually stand up and peed on your legs?
I think I peed in a cup.
Peed in a cup and then poured.
It on my leg.
Okay, now I got one more question about that. Did you throw the cup away?
I think I just rinsed in the ocean and maybe left it there and maybe.
Yeah. All right, well, I want to talk about how to walk in this full manifestation, because we talk about this a lot. And one thing I think is important for people to know that. Well, what I think. And you tell me your opinion that people are getting a portion.
Yes.
Of the gospel. Yes. You know, tell me what? Like, tell me you think.
Well, my. My personal opinion is, I think tradition has just come and just stolen so much from the body of Christ. Tradition. Tradition, religiosity. I don't think we're walking in the fullness of Christ. You know, we were sharing just at breakfast this morning how God called us to cast out demons, heal the sick, and preach the gospel. And I just don't know. I think we swing from one pendulum to the next pendulum, you know, from one side to the other side. But I think God is calling us to awaken and to be the bride of Christ that he's called us to be.
Yeah.
And that's to heal the sick, cast out demons, and preach the gospel.
So this is, like, we get excited about this. Like, I get so excited about thinking that walking in the fullness of everything that we have access to. Right?
Yeah.
Like becoming, getting saved, you know, is not just about. Okay, now I've got my Fire insurance, and I'm gonna go to heaven. It's about, how am I gonna live that out here on this earth? And I think people are not realizing, and I think it's demonic. You know, it's just, it's just deception. It's deception. Keep it hidden. Because if people knew what they had access to, we would have revival and we would have his kingdom on earth.
As it is in heaven. Exactly. So what, what does the enemy come to do? We. We know he comes to steal, kill and destroy. God says, I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly. I see 10, 10 all the time on, on clocks.
John 10:10.
What I feel like the Holy Spirit is saying right now, to piggyback on what you said, we, if the enemy can suppress us, then he can keep us exactly where you said we are as a body of Christ. If we don't know our benefits, if we don't know God as a covenant keeping God, then we don't know what is in our benefits package.
We don't know.
We don't know.
And if we. We will never exercise in something we don't.
Exactly. Because if you don't know the authority you walk in, you'll never take authority over anything. And I think the biggest thing right now, I think it's people don't stay in God's word. And look, I'm preaching to the choir because, you know, do I do it every day, maybe the way I should do it?
No.
But my heart and my hunger is for passion to read God's word. Yes. And I feel like he just gave me the word sozo and it's what you said. Sozo is the Greek word for saved, healed and delivered.
Yes.
So we come to the cross, we get our salvation, and we're like, oh, there's our fire insurance. We're saved. And that's great. But God calls us to go through the cross and to be healed and delivered.
That is so powerful, what you're talking about, because, like, what people think is the stopping point is the starting point.
Exactly.
And I just think there is no one more miserable on this planet than someone who has said yes to Jesus without operating in everything, everything he's got for them. Like, there are some Christians on this planet that are absolutely miserable. And it's because they have this amazing, like you say, this benefits package that they don't even know about. And if we can start walking in this, then we're going to see signs and wonders and miracles just falling off of us like, Like My hair falling out when I brush it, you know, like, it's just going to be natural for us to be agents of the supernatural.
Yep. You know, back in the biblical days when the disciples were still, you know, they been, you know, sent out and, you know, it was the handkerchief. Remember the handkerchief that Peter had, or Peter's shadow.
His shadow.
His shadow. And I'm like, lord, I want to hide under the shadow of the Almighty and I want my shadow. I want him to use my shadow to heal people.
Like, I think that's it. When you realize that you're a conduit, like you're just a vessel. Because what is in us is. Is the same power that created this universe.
Exactly right.
Like that's something that my human mind cannot comprehend. That God Almighty resides in me.
Exactly.
But okay, so if God resides in me, then why am I not doing what I think is first? John 4:17 or Romans 4:17 says that as he is, so are we in this world.
Right?
Right. So we need to be going and doing those things like Jesus told us. When. When Jesus ascended, all the disciples are standing around there. The angel's like, what are you doing?
Right.
You heard what he said.
Now go get busy. Yeah, get busy.
Why don't. Why do you think that? Unfortunately, I think the church itself has not operated in this fullness. Like, it's almost like, well, we want to play it cool.
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And you know what? I'm just going to be really real because I've been there before, so I'm preaching from where I've been. I think we sometimes, as the body of Christ, have a foot. We straddle the fence. We have a foot in the kingdom, and we have a foot in the world. And we know that it's going to be. We are going to have to be sold out for Jesus because you can't walk in his power if you are not sold out to him. Because he can't trust you.
No. No, he can't. So how do we get. How do we get to that place? Like, we are so passionate about this, and how do we get to that place where we're in the world, but not of the world? We talk about that a lot. But then, first thing I is, then why are. Why is everyone not seeing it?
Right?
And you said we can't. Like, God has to trust us. How do we get to that place?
Repentance.
Oh, let's repentance. We need to talk about that. We need to talk about that.
You know what? Whatever vocabulary word you want to put on it. It's surrender. It's repentance, It's, Lord, forgive me for. For just. For everything I've done or everything that I've believed that doesn't line up with your word.
You know, that's. We get taught, like you said earlier, the traditions of man. And the Bible's very clear about traditions of man. He's like, you're not seeing the fullness because you adhere to these traditions. And the traditions are, well, this is how we do church. Well, this is how we do religion. Well, this is, you know, our code, whatever. And we get caught up in that with our foot in the world, and then we don't really understand how to operate in the kingdom, because if we were to abandon that, it's almost like we have a break of identity. Now what's possible, like I said. Is that making sense?
Yeah.
Like how. How we can sometimes be our worst enemy.
Oh, totally.
Because, yeah, it's scary to think that there's a. There's a another way to live.
Yeah. Do you know what is the requirement or the prerequisite for deliverance?
What's that?
Desperation.
You know, I've heard you do things for two reasons. Desperation. Inspiration.
Yep. That's so good.
And I'd much rather be inspired than desperate.
Desperate. Yep.
But that desperation, when things are not working in your life and you're like, all right, the. The church theology that I think, you know, that my grandma had that my parents have, that it's not. It feels safe, but it's not producing any fruit.
Exactly.
There's no signs, wonders, miracles. There's no passion. There's no reason I wake up on fire. Right. Then we have to rethink some. That's that desperation. It's like, I want more of you, God. I want more of you.
Amen. Amen. And until you get to that point, you'll never have more of him. And I got to that point last year. I mean, I've been a believer all my life, but it was in 92. I tell everybody I made Jesus my savior, but I never made him my Lord. And then I made him my Lord. But last year had gotten to the point where we had some stuff going on in our family with our daughter. There was some demise stuff going on. And it's like, God, there's got to be so much more than. Than this. And we know life can be warfare. We know that. But let me tell you, TD Jake said years ago, no matter how big a Christian you are, when somebody messes with one of your kids, the horns come out. I'll never forget that. But when the enemy starts messing with one of your kids, that's where it's almost like Medea. Like, oh, hell to the no.
Yeah, yeah, right.
You're not going to mess with my kid. And thank God I had a girl, you know, a girlfriend that she actually does a nonprofit for suicide awareness, but she had started a deliverance ministry. And, you know, I went in, then my husband went in. The next week, my youngest daughter went in, then my next daughter went in. And I still have one daughter that hasn't done it yet. But, you know, we went in, just surrendered and yielded. That's another word. Yielded to the Holy Spirit, you know, Holy Spirit, what do you want to do? What is my assignment?
So I. I don't want to wait until I'm desperate, you know, I mean, if desperation causes us to be broken before Jesus, then hallelujah.
Right?
But I am so grateful because something happened in my life several years ago, and it was when my son was in a boating accident. And I am so grateful that years before that, I was inspired to really plug into these faith teachings. Like, I remember the first time I read Kenneth Copeland's book, the Blessing, Blessing of the Lord. I read that, and I remember putting it down. Like, I'd read a page and put it down. I'd been in church, Barbie, since I was nine years old. Like, I had. Like, I was the preacher's kid, right? And I put that book down, I'm like, wait, what? Like, all of a sudden, God's word wasn't just something I read for, like, my morning devotion. Yeah. It was something that was like, no, I work the word. Like, this is a covenant I have with God through the blood of Jesus that I can work and actually create life. Yeah, right. Create the results in my life by working with faith. And I remember I was plugging into that and learning and learning. And I am so grateful because when that accident happened, I knew enough about healing and miracles. I'm like. I'm like, I'm not moving from this spot.
Right? Yeah.
And Satan tried so hard to create fear in my heart and, you know, worst case scenario and try to get out of that hell to the no. Like, I ain't going there. I cannot sacrifice. Even if it felt like I was just the storms around me. And sometimes you feel like that faith is like this tiny little rock and you're holding your balance there. And like, I. I was like, I can't. I've got to camp out here. Because either God's covenant is everything or it's nothing.
That's so good.
And it was everything.
And it was everything.
I found that out. And I won't move from that. Y. I know God wants to show up with miracles.
Right, Right.
But people like, I'm not seeing it.
Right, right, right.
What do we do? What? Like, what do they do if they're like. But that sounds so great, Hannah and Barbie, like, I'm glad that you have that passion and that fire, but my life is kind of dry right now.
Right, right. But imagine if you would have had then fear.
Would you? Oh, I don't even want to go down that road.
That's it. That's it. So, you know, we have to deal. We have to deal with that stuff that keeps us from being able to receive faith. You know, we know faith comes by hearing here and by the word of God. So it was you. It was God cultivating faith and you had it for that season. We can't walk into the fire without being prepared. You know, I just came out of a huge wilderness season where it was like, lord, I know you're there because your word says you're there. And you either believe it from front to back or you don't believe it at all.
Right.
So, Lord, I know you're there, but I don't feel you at all. And that's a scary. Not a scary. It's just sad.
It's just a sad.
It's just a season and it is a sad place to be. And you know, when God took me and you know, I was dealing with condemnation, I was dealing with some guilt, probably even some shame, but just being beat up by the enemy.
Yeah.
But not even realizing it, that it was the enemy, you know. How long did the Israelites stay in the wilderness?
40 years.
How long was the journey? I mean, I've heard.
Oh yeah, it was. I went 11.
I've heard a preacher. It was like 11 days.
But they stayed 40 weeks. But whatever. Wasn't.
But it's like, so how many times do we stay in the wilderness because we think we're being punished? When we're not being punished, we're being prepared.
Okay, girl, now you preach it.
I walked out of that season was when I felt like the Lord took those little heart. You know, there's like boom. And just jump started my heart again. And now I'm to the point where it's like, you know what, God? If your word says perfect love, cast out all fear, then I'm not walking in fear. And we've shared that on our little breakfasts where.
Yeah.
You know, fear still tries to rear its head.
Always.
You know, but they're doing their job.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
The demons are just doing their job.
Doing what they were. Yeah.
Yeah. What they're commissioned to do.
I mean, but here's the problem.
We're not doing what we're commissioned to do. You know what I'm saying?
Yep.
Like, the demons are great at carrying out orders. We're like, I'll wait till I get comfortable. Yeah, no, you're gonna wait till you get desperate. And that's that. Thing is, we think we have to feel a certain way. You know what I mean? Like. Well, when I feel the. The power of God in me. No, it is. It's in his word. You camp out in that word and the word has to be. It's like it has to dictate every step you take.
It's so true.
Or. Or is impotent.
What were we sharing last week about feeling versus faith?
Right.
And how. I told you I felt like the Lord said, take feeling out of your vocabulary right now because it's not about how you feel. It's about what you believe.
And your feelings are just there to tell you what you're believing.
Exactly.
Right. Feelings are not there to. To determine what you do next. And we don't negotiate with feelings. Jesus didn't.
But when you don't know that and you're caving to that.
Yeah.
Then you're like that. That ship with the utter. Where, you know, where it's just like tossing you here.
Yeah.
Tossing you there. And, you know, it's such a. You know, one of my sayings is. And I didn't coin it, but it's like, God, thank you that you love us too much to leave us where we are.
Right, Right.
You know, but we're all walking out something.
Yeah.
You know, we. We said it this morning. We won't be perfect till we see Jesus face to face.
Perfecting process. Like, God says, be perfect as I am perfect. So that can be like, what?
Right.
But what he's saying is like, let me guide you and always be, like, humble enough to be perfected. And I think that is absolutely necessary to walk in the signs and wonders and to be a channel of healing and blessing in this world that is in pain and needs it. We've really got to be super clear and honest about what's in our own heart. Like, we can't go home and scream at our kids. Exactly. And Do a silent treatment with our. With our husbands. And we hold anger and bitterness and think, oh, I'm gonna operate in the fullness. Like, no, no, it has to start with you. We have to. We have to clean this out, our heart out.
And I think that's what God is doing right now. Because, you know, I do believe there's an awakening. I think it's already started in the body of Christ. But I also believe with that comes the polishing. And that's what he' with all of us as he's polishing us. You know, the Bible says he's the potter, we're the clay. And you know, when we. And I used to pray that daily. God, you're the potter, I'm the clay. Mold me and make me into who you've called me to be.
Right, Right.
But sometimes you don't really know what that process looks like, you know, but there is a breaking in it sometimes. You know, I had a pastor tell me a couple weeks ago, he said, Barbie, he said, when God. God corrects, he disciplines. He doesn't punish.
Always.
Always.
He poured out all the punishment on Jesus.
There's nothing left that was taken.
Nothing left for you.
It is finished.
When. When that punishment and that condemnation comes, it is not coming from God.
Exactly.
It is coming from Satan.
Exactly.
Because if he can. And I truly believe that condemnation is the root of depression.
Oh, yeah.
You know, because we're. There's something that we feel God's holding over us, that we're not good enough. That so true. You know, and so if we could just, you know, he says that there is now no condemnation for those in Christ. Right. And if there was any condemnation, Jesus took it all. Otherwise, like, if we could do anything about our sin, we wouldn't need Jesus.
Right?
And he came to get us out of that condemnation. And so when we feel that nudging and that polishing, right? That's love. That is love that's working for you to get you where you can be radically blessed. Like, think about it. If someone. If someone squeezes you, you'd be like, ow, stop. But you'll lay on the bed and get a massage, right? It's just your perspective.
It's your perspective.
And so, like, can you just take this season? Like, if someone's listening or watching right now and they're like, girl, I am in a season. Like, it is. I feel like, you know, when you were saying it's just dry, it's hard. You feel like there's demonic stuff coming at you. What if you could say God, I'm just. This is a massaging me into that place where I'm stronger and I'm more powerful. And when I. When I work the Word, I'm going to know the word and work it.
Yep. And you're going to see the word work.
Yeah.
You're going to see it work in your life.
It always has to work.
It has to.
It's not like. And, you know, coming against those traditions of men as we so love to do in our brunches.
Right. Yeah.
It's like, what are we going to tear apart today? Right. But one of those things is, is we get stuck in these, like, religious tweets, kind of like, well, sometimes you will, sometimes you won't. We don't know the ways of God. And it's like, what? Like, where is that in the Word?
Exactly. It's not. You need to know.
You better know.
You better know, or else then you're.
Going to attrib, like, things that the enemy is doing in your life. Well, God's teaching me something right now that is demonic.
And I think that that's a lot of the deception that's been going on is people. People don't have, like, the true picture of Father God being a God of love, and they attribute so much to him, and they beat him up with stuff that he never did. And it's just.
And a lot of times, like, no, baby, that was you.
Exactly. Exactly.
That was you. And so stop saying. Stop putting stuff on God that you've created in your life out of ignorance, out of ignorance, because you don't know what the Word says about you or who you are or whose you are, what you have authority and right over.
You know, they're biblical principles that work. You know, you reap what you sow. Sometimes you're just sowing consequences.
Yes. To.
To sin.
Yeah.
You know, so I heard a guy the other day, I was watching, and he said, just stay. Keep a short list. Walk in forgiveness. Lord, whatever. Whatever, you know, just. Lord, I repent for that. Or, you know, whatever you need to do. Don't move out of confession. But like you said, don't.
Yes, don't move. Don't move out of love. I've gone into, like, situations preemptively forgiving.
It's like, that's so good.
Like, no matter what happens today, or if I. Like, there is no offense that I'm gonna hold because I have preemptively forgiven every single butthole that comes at me.
It's okay.
Is that okay to say that. Yes.
Yes. Because you postured your heart, you know, forgiveness is a choice. It's an act of your free will, which we all have a free will to choose.
Right.
So that's so cool to just wake up. That almost be like an exercise kind of, you know, that. That we do daily. Lord, just help me show your love and help me just walk in forgiveness.
Isn't that what dying to self is, though?
Yes, is being crucified.
It's being crucified. And when you say, like, you know, when the Bible says take up your cross daily, it's not saying, oh, well, here's my cross to bear tonight. You know, like old Mr. Grumpy Kids. I'm a. I'm a Christian. Walk all over me and pour me.
Right.
All that means is choose every day that you have slaughtered that flesh, that you are dead.
Right.
To that. To that natural person that wants to get offended, that wants to get mad, that wants to hold unforgiveness, that, you know, it's like we have to die.
To that daily, daily, daily. And, you know, I think. I think the church is walking so wounded because I question how many people are not walking in forgiveness. And I know it's hard. I mean, we've all had situations in our life, thank God. I never was an abuse victim. I didn't grow up in, you know, satanic ritual abuse or I wasn't molested or raped or, you know, But I know forgiveness can be hard. But I also know it's not a suggestion. It's a requirement.
And the only reason it's a requirement is because he loves us so much. It's not because he wants to make us do something hard.
He wants to get. He's always trying to get stuff to us. Always, always.
He's so.
So if that is holding us back, then he wants to. He wants to take that layer off.
Yeah. You know, that's a loving.
It's a loving act.
It's not. I need to. I need to punish you.
Exactly.
It's like, no, I need to refine you because I want you to be blessed.
Yeah.
Yeah. Like, that's walking in the fullness. You're right.
Totally.
The body of Christ today, the church, which the church is. Sorry, the church is not a building. Right.
We are the church.
We are the church and we are the bride of Christ. And that bride, I feel like, is so conflicted and hurt and crippled and emaciated and struggling for no reason. Like, we have got to get her in.
In shape. Yes.
Get her Empowered. Get her on, like a juice fast. In a colon cleanse. So she can like, be everything she's supposed to be in this world. So that she's just like signs and wonders. I'm telling you, and we talk about this all the time, that when the church shows up in that power and authority, you cannot ignore Jesus.
Exactly. He's going to be the center of attention.
He will. Because that. That's we. Everything just points to him. The healing, the miracles, the size. We can walk in that just like we can drink. Drink water. It's just that natural. Exactly. If we can just yield and let him do his work.
And let him do his work and be a vessel that he can use, you know, beautiful. Because people are dying every day and bust in hell wide open.
They are. They are. And we are called. It said, the gates of hell will not prevail against you. We're not called to be safe on the heavens.
Right, Right.
We're called to go into hell and rescue people.
Exactly.
Like we. We have the key to the kingdom.
Exactly.
So. So use them.
Use them. Yep.
So if anyone's struggling today with feeling like going through. Going through a thing, what would. What would you tell this person? They're going through a season. They're like, I don't know why I'm listening to this, but you got. You got my attention. What's next?
I would just say, really? No, really know that God is right there with you. And the Holy Spirit is your comforter. He's your teacher. He's your God. He'll lead you into all truth. And sometimes we just have to humble ourselves and say, God, I need you. I need you. Because God was with Jesus in the wilderness. And you know what? Just. It's all about God. What are you doing in me? What do you want to do through me? So if there comes a breaking, just know that. That that season. There are people walking to the fire. There are people walking in the fire, and there are people walking out of the fire. Yeah, but God is with you through all of it.
He said he would never leave you when he would never.
Hang on, Hang on. And that's not a Christian cliche.
No, it's not.
That is. Hang on.
It's not like a poster with the cat holding a limb.
Exactly.
No, this.
Exactly. This is. Hang on to the hem of his garment because you are safe there.
I don't like. People can't be intimate with a God they can't trust. And I'm just saying you are safe, yielding to him because he loves you. And he who did not spare even his own son, but gave him up freely for us all, won't be with him.
Give us all things.
We're safe.
You know, surround yourself around people that love you and that will encourage you and pull you up. Because sometimes we're in a wilderness, but sometimes we're in a pit.
Oh, yeah.
You know what I mean? So, I mean, that could be a whole nother podcast.
Well, that'll be.
Yeah, but, you know, just sometimes we're in a pit. So just, you know, it might be a season of repentance that you're going through right now. It's a breaking, it's a surrender. It's Lord, not my will. Your will be done.
Yeah.
But that comes through humility.
And repentance is not a bad place to be. It's beautiful.
It's a beautiful place to be in. It really is.
It's beautiful.
It really is. It gets a bad rap, but it's good. But it's good stuff. So good.
Barbie, thank you so much for hanging out.
Thank you for having me. I enjoyed this.
Yeah, me too. And I know people are going to.
Be blessed like crazy, praying so.
