26 Oct 2023 · 26 min
Rabbi Jason Sobel explains how Old Testament signs and Hebrew numerology point to Jesus as the Messiah. He shares a dramatic healing story and argues that biblical details like the 38-year period at Bethesda and water turning to wine reveal hidden supernatural truths meant to shift us from fear to faith.

So one thing that has always fascinated me, and I'm sure if you're, you know, watching or listening to this, it probably fascinates you too, is the covenant of God. And it's so beautiful to study the Bible in this whole, like, to see the Old Testament covenant, how it's a shadow for, like, the New Testament. And I just. I don't know. People geek out on stuff. I geek out on that. So I was super excited to see the new book that came out, Science and Secrets of the Messiah. Messiah. Now, this is from Rabbi Jason Sobel. Now, if you have, like, watched the Chosen, probably have. He's one of the spiritual advisors on that. He's also helping people understand who Jesus really is in light of his faith. So this is. I'm so excited. Like, we have been working on getting him on this show for quite some time. So now you get to hear directly from him. Rabbi JASON I'm so happy that we get to hang out together. I've been looking so forward to this.
Shalom. Thank you for having me. I'm excited to be here.
Fantastic. Now, okay, why did you decide to write this book? First of all, Signs and Secrets of Messiah? Because personally, I think that the signs in the Old Testament are so fascinating when I say that, how it points to the Messiah. And. But when you talk about, like, the signs and secrets, I think a lot of that is secret. I think a lot of that is kept from believers. And I think if we could see into that, like, like with your vision and what you have to offer, it gives us such a richer, more expansive understanding of who the Messiah really is.
Yeah. I mean, I think one of the reasons why I wrote the book is, I think now more than ever, people need hope. I think when everyone looks at what's going on in the world and it seems like man, is anything ever going to get better? And it just seems kind of like a hopeless situation. And in the natural, it can seem that way. But if we understand God is a God of the supernatural, speaking my language, that nothing is too difficult for him and that he, like he did with these miracles, he changed people's lives. He changed situations and circumstances in an instant. And he wants to do the same thing for us even today. So he wants us to have faith, to believe that he can work even in impossible situations where it seems like we talk about in the water, into wine miracle, the first miracle. It seems like everything had run out at the wedding, but it wasn't until everything ran out that he stepped in and he did the Miracle. That's how he works. Right. So we. But that gives us hope to understand. That's how often God works. And so we want to help people see how all these things connect back together. We want to connect the dots. And I think when you see how God is in the details, it encourages us because it says, man, if God is in every detail of the Bible, that means he's in every detail of my life. And I think that's important to understand at this time.
Yeah. Because, you know, we don't serve a God who is way off in the distance somewhere. That's. That's the beauty. Like, Jesus connects us with that. So now we have this beautiful relationship with God who is accessible and intimate and personal and understands and knows our life better than we even understand it. And I think sometimes we. You know, it's interesting that you said it wasn't until the wine ran out that the miracle happens, because I feel like, personally, I don't know if you've ever felt this way or someone, you know, watching or listening right now ever feels this way is that as long as our natural supply is available, we don't look for the supernatural, you know, and. And that's unfortunate because we are supernatural beings. We. We are spirit. We have a soul. We live in a body. And if we understood, like, what if I could, like, lift the plane a little bit and live a supernatural life, so that became more real than the natural. I don't know if I'm geeking out. I mean, I know I can speak out too much for you.
No, no, I'm right with you. Look, I mean, part of my spiritual journey. I mean, I grew up Jewish. I came to know Jesus as the Messiah through a supernatural encounter with him and a bit of journey. Yeah, sure. I mean, I. I grew up in a Jewish household, went to Hebrew school, but eventually was working in the music industry. 18 years old. Look at all these lives of these famous people around me. Said there has to be more to life than just this. Began a spiritual journey studying with my rabbi, but also got into martial arts and yoga and meditation. And one day I was meditating. My soul began to vibrate. It left my body. I went into heaven. I saw this king on this throne, high and lifted up, and he told me I was called to serve him. Next thing I was no Is down in my body, shaking under the power of heaven. Eventually came to Faith. That was the beginning of that journey. Then right after I came to Faith, I had a homeless friend in New York that was sleeping outside, got frostbite needed to have both legs amputated, called me collect on the phone when you could actually do that. And I went to, laid hands on him. I said, silver and gold have I known. But I have. In the name of Jesus, rise, take up your bed and walk. He got healed, he came to faith and he walked out of the hospital. You know, we talk about it in the book and you know, it's like the man at the pool. It was like the man at the pool of Bethesda who was not able to walk. For 38 years, this man was not able to walk. And if there's a number or detail in the Bible, it's there for a reason. Why 38 years? Because Israel actually wandered in the desert. According to Deuteronomy chapter 2, for 38 years they were in the desert. 40. But in the second year they disobeyed and wouldn't go in and take the land. Send it to 12 spies. One of the epic fails in the Bible.
Yeah, yeah.
And they wander in the wilderness. So Yeshua, Jesus was, was saying to this man, that generation that came out of Egypt that, that wandered in the wilderness and died 38 years because of their unbelief. If you choose to remain in your unbelief, you will die in the state that you're in right now. But if you choose to have faith in me, then I'll heal you and make you whole. I'll give you hope. You don't have to remain stuck. Your hope is a belief that your future can be better than your past. Things can be different for you. But you have to have faith in me. And he does this miracle. What's interesting too is 38 is also Hebrews alphanumeric. That means you write numbers with letters in Hebrew. There's no Roman numerals in the Bible, so every word has a numerical value. And so the numerical value of his heart equals 38. So Jesus was wanting to heal this man's heart. He was testing this man to see what was in his heart. And there's so much more there.
There's always so much more there. Sometimes I feel like when I'm studying God's word, it's like I'm just scratching the surface, you know, and it goes so deep. It just. The deep you go is deeper still. And. And that's that beautiful journey, you know, from grace to grace and from faith to faith. It's like as soon as we taste it, we. We just want more of it. Taste and see that the Lord is good. But it's to understand that we, we do have access to that. I love that it was a supernatural experience that brought you into this relationship with the Messiah. And, and now it's like everything kind of comes full circle. You can see it, your upbringing and your education now. You can see that, the totality of it. And I think that's so beautiful. And the idea that we not only can experience the supernatural in our lives, which is what you did, we can also be conduits of the supernatural for other people, like you did. And I think that is one thing. I mean, every time Jesus was talking, excuse me, he, he always did miracles. Like he knew, he knew what attracted people, he knew what drew them in. Right. And, and so to think that we have access to that as well. The more we know of who we are in him, the more we can operate in that power.
Yeah. The signs are like signs on the highway. They don't billboards, they don't exist for themselves. They exist to point to something particular. They're communicating a message. And so the signs that Jesus did was meant to communicate the heart of God for us. And every miracle has a promise connected to it. And God wants us to understand his heart and his promises for our life. That's why studying the signs. By the way, miracles in the New Testament are actually called signs. That's why it's called signs and secrets of the Messiah. And one of the first signs he does is turning the water into wine. Well, of all the miracles he could have performed, of all the signs, why is this the first one? Think about it. What's the first one Moses did when he came to redeem the children of Israel out of Egypt? He turned the water into blood. Jesus comes as the greater than Moses, the greater redeemer, bringing a greater exodus. He doesn't turn the water into blood. He turns the water into wine. Because he came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. It's the miracle of abundance. It's the miracle of transformation. God can take something ordinary like water, transform it into something extraordinary like wine. And that's what he wants to do in each and every one of our lives. There's that supernatural transformation. He doesn't want us to live the same way. He wants to change this, doesn't want us to live out of the lack, but he wants us to live out of the overflow. And that's what he promises each and every one of us.
That is so beautiful. Like, excuse me, I, I, I'm sorry. Got God bumps, not goosebumps. I got Some God bumps right now with that, because I never. I never realized that. I've been studying God's word for it since I was 9. And you just sharing that symbolism made. Made it so real to me. And that's why I think everyone needs to know this. Like, we don't really know the character of Jesus till we start looking into how he was, the completion, the fulfillment of the law. And when we can see that, we say, wait, I have access to this. Like, I think so many times when you're talking about that running out, I think especially today, I don't know if you feel this or not, but I believe that so much in our culture, in our media, people are scared, like, more than ever before, and they're kind of holding on tight, and they have this fear of, like, running out, running out of money, running out of time, running out of patience, whatever that is. But just like you said, like. Like John 10:10, like, he came that we may have life overflow to abundance, that running over life. And we have to look at, am I operating in the natural with the fear of running out, or am I operating in the supernatural with faith in running over? How do we make that shift? Like, it's so hard. I mean, I'm a coach. I know you help people. And I think just like, you know, we see people who are trapped. Like, how do I access that? I just feel like everywhere I look at, everything I feel feels tight and restrictive and natural. Like, you know, it's just objectively what I observe. How can I elevate to that?
I mean, I think there's a number of things. I think one is, we'll come back to the miracle, the water into wine. But the last miracle in the book that we talk about, signs and secrets of the Messiah, is the secret of the sign and secret of the nets that don't break. The disciples are fishing all night, and they catch absolutely nothing. What's interesting is that in Hebrew, the word for fish is dog. And it's also the same root for the word fear, worry, and anxiety in Hebrew.
Hold up, hold up, hold up, hold on. I got cortical juice dripping out of my ears. Let me. Let me wipe it a little bit. Wait, wait, wait. Okay. The word for fish is also the word for fear.
Yeah. And worry and anxiety. So the reason why the disciples caught nothing is that they were fishing from a place of fear and anxiety. When you operate out of a place of fear, like the John 21 moment, they're operating in the dark. Literally, they're fishing at Night. They're operating in their own perspectives and mindsets, right? Because Peter probably thought, look, I denied the Lord, there's no way I'm going to be the rock. I blew it. So he's fearful about his future. He goes back to what's familiar, which is fishing. He goes back to his old way of, of seeing and being. That's like going back to Egypt. When God says, don't go back to Egypt, to the Israelites. Don't go back to, to where you came from, that old place, that unhealthy place that in Egypt literally means a place of confinement or restriction. Don't go back to that place, okay? That's going to box you in and put you in a box. Don't live from a place of fear because your, Your life, your relationships, your, Your finances, all of that will remain empty. You have to fish from a place of faith, not from a place of fear. And that's the foundation. And that's even what's true with the miracle of the water into wine, when everything ran out, right, you could live in a place of fear. But Mary doesn't live in a place of fear. She says to Yeshua, she says, jesus, listen, we've run out of wine. Do something. His response is like, look, what does this have to do with me? It's not my time. But here's the thing. She has next level faith. Next level faith, it's called in Hebrew chutzpah. It means holy boldness or audacity, which means she's not going to take no for an answer. She knows that he needs to do something, so she's not going to take no until he actually does something. And we need to have that sort of tenacious type of faith that takes risks for God and that will not take no for an answer when we know this is what God has promised or told us to do.
Just like that woman who would not leave the landowner alone. Yeah, she's like, no, I want justice. We can look in the word, we say, no, I, I see it in your word. I want to see it in my life. I, I want justice. So here's the unjust judge who's like, oh, my gosh, she's going to drive me bananas if I don't just fulfill, what, her request. And so God's saying, look, if an unjust judge would do that, how much more would your loving father, who stands by his word, do that? And you know what? When they were fishing all night, here's, here's, like, the boldness of saying you know what? Throw in your nets again. But the reason he could was now he made that switch from fear to faith. And it wasn't even like his. His, like, education about it or his, like, experience about it. It was all based upon your word. I'll throw the nets back in. And I'm sure in the back of my. Like, this ain't gonna work.
Nope.
Like, I'm sure I'm just gonna show that he ain't no fisherman. Leave it up to the big boys who know how to do this stuff. Okay, whatever. I'll throw it in again. But, you know, that's what he's saying. She's like, can you trust me to do the ridiculous that outlandish. Like to go further than. Than people are willing to go. Yeah.
And there's. And there's so much more there. Like we talk about in. In the book, he says, throw the nets on the right side of the boat, which implies they were fishing from the left side. So the reality is, is that when you fish from the left, your nets are always going to be left to you empty. Now, that's not a political statement. So I want to be clear. We have to understand.
You can interpret.
It however you want to interpret it. Right.
I'll get that little piece. I'll get that little clip and I put it on. Hey, here's what Rabbi Sobel has.
That's right, Right, right, right. That's right. So we have in Hebraic thought, in Jewish thought, the left side represents fire, it represents judgment, and it represents severity. When you fish from a place of severity or being critical or being negative or being judgmental towards others, your nets are going to be left to you empty. The right side is the opposite. It's the place of water. Water represents God's loving kindness. It represents his provision, like the water from the rock in the wilderness. It represents his grace, it represents unity. It represents the word of God. Okay, so when you fish from a place of love and unity in God's word, your nets are going to remain full. I believe we are. We have to live from a place of not hate, but a place of love, not fear, but a place of faith. Not from place of being independent, but interdependent. And this is key because I believe we're in a time in the world where John. Where God wants to bring the greatest catch the world has ever seen, a John. But here's the thing. It's not just nets. He wants to give us nets that don't break. Because the first time Peter was called he cast the nets a second time when he had fished all night and caught nothing, but his nets broke. This time, the nets didn't break. What's the difference for the nets not to break? You have to understand. No, nobody's net is strong enough or sizable enough to contain what's coming. That means we have to join nets. The nets are only as strong as the knots. We have to join in kingdom relationships. And at this time and season, if on a personal level or on a global level, we want to see God move on any level, it's all about relationship. It's. God said to me very clearly, it's not about your net worth. It's about your network. The network of relationships that God brings in your life, that you strengthen in the season is greater than finances because relationships can open doors that even money can't.
Oh, my word. Amen. And that. That is how the church, the body is built. And. And I. I think right now, when you're talking about the bride of Christ, she's. She's broken, she's hurting. She. She's. I mean, she's destroying herself. And so this idea of unity and love, that's the only way we can bring about revival. And that's. That's what draws people in, is that love. Not the judgment, but the love. I mean, even Jesus said, like, okay, the greatest commandment is love. And upon this law, I mean, upon this. This law of love hang all the law and the prophets. So if we want to see it in fruition and. And see that fulfillment, it's going to happen through love. It cannot happen through judgment or fear or hate. It's got to happen when we. When we have. When we are conduits of the love that God has for his people.
Now, here's something deeper, right?
So I know you can take it deeper, dude, right?
So think about this. He says, throw the net on the right side of the boat. We said the. At the left side represents fire, which is judgment and severity. The right side represents water. And water in Hebrew is represented by the Hebrew letter mem. Literally, water in Hebrew is mime. It begins and ends with the letter memory. What's interesting is that the mem is the 13th letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Now, when we tend to think about 13, we tend to think about it's an unlucky number. No one wants the 13th floor or Friday the 13th. My name's Jason. People made all sorts of jokes. I can imagine, like, you know, where's your hockey mask? Or whatever it is, right? So. But here's the thing. 13 is one of the greatest numbers in the Bible. 13 is the numerical value of the Hebrew word for love, Ahavah. 13 is the numerical value of the word echad. To be one, God is one. The man and the woman are to become one flesh. So the right side of the boat connected to the number 13 represents love. United in unity, being united in love together. And then think about this. What's the love chapter in the Bible? First Corinthians, chapter 13. And it has 13 verses. No coincidence. It's underscoring the numerical value of love. And it's the 13th chapter. Now when you think about, like you mentioned, there's two great loves. Love the Lord your God, love your neighbor as yourself. So love, love. 13 times 2 equals 26. Well, guess what? The numerical value of the divine name Yud. Hey Vav. Hey, Christians, pronounce Yahweh or Jehovah equals what? 26. Because God's name is fully revealed in the world when we love him and we love our neighbors and then our lives will be full. Like those nets that didn't break.
Oh, so powerful. Oh, I love this. You are dropping too many bombs right now. I just. Explosions left and right. I'm just telling you. And you know what's amazing is that the enemy Satan can't create anything new. He can only distort was being created. So look at the. You know, you talk about 13 being culturally an unlucky number, right? Of course it would be because he wants to always distort God's word and twist it. That's what wicked means, is twisted and, and how amazing. It's like maybe it's, maybe it is an unlucky number because we're not supposed to operate by luck. Yeah, right. Luck says everything is random. There's, there's, you know, maybe you will, maybe you won't. There's nothing depend upon. There's no foundation. Love is dependable. Love never fails. Love, you can, you can know the return of love. And I love that idea. That's just, it just is liberating to know that we're safe there. This isn't like a random crapshoot that we're involved in right now. There, there are strategies that are at work and when we access that and access that supernatural power, we can live a supernatural.
Absolutely. And again, seeing God in the details is the key to understanding the worldview that says everything is random. That is not biblical.
Right.
That is very intentional about every promise coming to pass and about every aspect of our life. And, you know, think about it for a moment. He does the first miracle with six stone pots. Well, why not seven? Why not eight? Well, six stone pots, he tells, you know, has the. Them filled with the brim. John, chapter two. Six is the day as the number of creation, right? Man was created. Number of man. Man. Man and woman were created on the sixth day. In Jewish thought, we fell on the sixth day. So when Messiah comes and he. He dies on the cross. He dies on Friday, which is biblically the sixth day. He dies on a cross. Why? Because on this. How did sin enter the world? The first man and woman took something from the tree they shouldn't have. So God put back on the tree for you and me to. To undo that. His hands are pierced. Why? Because our hands took from the tree. His side is pierced. Why? Because Eve, the one taken from the side, you know, was the one who led Adam into temptation. He's got a crown of thorns on his head. Why? Because. What's the curse of creation? The ground produced thorns and thistles. He's literally taking the curse on his head to break the curse and restore the blessing, the curse that came on the sixth day. And when he does the miracle with six stone pots, he's restoring the fruitfulness that in the abundance that was there in the beginning that he wants us to experience in our own life.
Okay, I. We just need a moment of silence right there. It's so good. It's so good. It was so good. Oh, Rabbi Jason, thank you so much. All right, I. I would like keep this going for five hours, but here's the deal, guys. We have just not even scratched the surface, and you got to pick up a copy of this book you got. How. How can people find out more about you, too? Because now they're like, wait, what? I got to know more. How can they. How can they find out?
Yeah. Yeah. Rabbi Jason Sobel. SOB L. On any social media outlets, Fusion global.org we have all sorts of teachings. Wherever they buy books, they can find it. You know, so we're all over the place, and we take people to Israel, and people are welcome to come with us to Israel. And just in the book, we talk about the sign and signs and ceilings of multiplication signs and secret of healing, sign and secret of wholeness, sign and secret of transformation, of purification. Lots of different things. And I believe it will really help build people in their faith for the supernatural with us. Israel.
Yes. I'm coming to Israel. I said it there. It's out there. So I am so excited about this guys. You can live a supernatural life. Don't keep living natural. Don't keep living by luck. God has a plan for you, and it's an amazing plan. Step into that, because he wants. He just wants to delight you. Thank you so much for hanging out with us today, Rabbi.
Oh, so such a blessing to be with you. And just encourage everyone that you know you can do the greater things than these. Jesus made that promise to you, and you don't have to live a natural life. You can live a supernatural life in Him. And I just pray that you would experience, each and every one of you, that healing, wholeness, and transformation and be used by him to be a miracle in somebody's life. In the name of Yeshua Jesus, I pray this for you. Amen.
Amen. Amen. Thank you so much.
Thank you. God bless. Shalom. Shalom.
