All right, let's face it. Sometimes in your life, you get down. Like, you get real down. And the last thing you feel like doing is getting out of that pit. I totally get you. And it feels almost like this cozy, safe place. Even though you're in horrible pain is just the thought of getting out of it is too difficult. So if that's you today, I want you to stop what you're doing. If you're driving, keep on driving. You're fine. But I want you to really tune in and listen, because sometimes you just reach that point where, you know, you gotta get up. All right, Kim, my awesome, amazing friend, Real Talk Kim, is here today looking awesome, living a big life, and just helping you live your big life, too. Kim, thank you so much for hanging out with me.
I am so excited to be with you. It's great to see your face.
Oh, it's great to see you, too.
Yes. Life has been life. And so we get so busy. We miss seeing each other and connecting. That's the cool thing about life. You can just pick up where you left off.
Absolutely. It's cool thing about life with friends, with people that got his place in your life.
You're.
You understand this. And so you can just get back into the game. It doesn't matter.
Yes.
And you have a brand new book that just came out. And guys, I know you know Kim because she's been on our podcast before, but she's also pastor at Limitless Church, and a book just came out, and girl, and I saw that title, I am telling you from a personal perspective, it could not have come out at a better time.
You know what I have discovered in my life, Hannah, that, man, all of these trials that you go through, it's part of life and it's what makes you better. Those trials, those tribulations, those things that you think are going to take your breath away, you're never going to recover, man. Those are the things that really catapult you into your destiny. If it wasn't for pain, how would we be empathetic? And so this book I wrote, man, you gotta get up. You gotta say it like that, Hannah, you gotta get up.
Gotta get up. Did I get it?
You gotta get up. Because sometimes you just gotta talk to yourself. Sometimes there are seasons in your life. Like you just said. You said there are. Sometimes you just feel like, man, I just want to go to bed, I want to throw in the towel, because you gotta get up. You can't stop because people are depending on you.
That's right.
You you got this. Like, if you realize that you got this.
That's so true. Kim. One thing that you have always inspired me, because I believe you are one of the most resilient. Not. Not just resilient, but resilient with a brilliance that goes beyond that. I think you are the kind of person who's like, all right, when life throws something at you, yeah, it may knock you down, but you are never. And you have to stay down. And God has used that in your life to develop this brilliance, to help so many people see beyond their current pain.
I just don't even have a choice. You know what? I've never had a choice. And, man, I remember there's been, like, weeks. I wouldn't even say. I think one time in my life, Hannah, when I walked through my divorce after 18 years, I cried for a year, but I just don't. I've never had the luxury of quitting. I've never had the luxury. I will literally be walking up to preach on my platform and be like. Like, cry all the way to church, you know, and then just be like. And suck it up, buttercup. And I'm like, can't believe you're going to mourn and move. I. I just have not ever allowed myself to stop. Even. Even in the storms I created, Hannah, I. I've just never let myself get to a place where I feel like it's over. Like, even when someone walks out of my life that I love more than life. But I just realized we weren't good together. And I got to say goodbye or my daddy dies. And I got to get up and preach the next morning. I've just tapped into something I'm real good at tapping into. It's going to hurt for a minute, this heartbreak. Hannah, is going to hurt. It's going to hurt for probably six months, but I'm not going to let it stop me. I'm going to fight through my tears. I'm going to fight as I'm getting up and dusting myself off. I might have done everything they said I did, and all the rumors might be true, but I'm not going to be that person in 30 days. So I just. I just look at it like God knew before I was ever even a thought, my mother's womb, that I was going to be facing this moment, and he's given me the wherewithal to fight through it. So if it's in me, I got to tap into it and go for it. And I just realized that every single thing that I go through Is free life, college. And I don't. Student loan to pay back. I can get better or better.
And there's a price. There's a price, Right. But maybe that doesn't have interest, or maybe the interest comes back to us because with it. Right?
Yeah.
I was sharing with you right before we started this. When my mom passed in December, my life imploded. Like, I didn't have. I didn't know where to go. And the thing is, I. I was just so close with her that being. Having her, like, now no longer accessible to me, it not only knocked me off my feet, but it knocked my business off my feet. Everything I'm doing, I couldn't show up. And I remember watching everything spiral downward, you know, And I remember calling him into her mind and just ball and my eyes out. Like, I don't even know what to do. I don't. I just want to quit everything and move to an island somewhere.
And.
And he said, you got to find your way out of this. You don't have a choice. You got people depend upon you, and you have got to find your way out of this. And he said it with such resolve. I was like, I don't have a choice?
You don't have a choice. You don't have a choice.
Like, it. Like, it's not like, oh, I can't do. It's like, it doesn't matter what I feel. Like it doesn't matter what I want. What matters is God put something in me, and I can call it quits, but what. But who am I serving that way? I'm not even serving myself that way. And so we don't have a choice. We got to get up.
You know, I put up a post yesterday, Hannah, that says, when you're going through hell, keep going, because why would you want to stop in hell, right? And, you know, I'm looking at your mom. I'm so sorry about your mom. I get it. Like, losing a parent's, like, the worst thing.
I remember when you lost your daddy.
Oh, my God.
I remember thinking I was talking with Blair and I was like, how is she preaching?
Oh, girl, it was so hard. I probably preached one of the most because I usually preach to myself. Like most people, 100%, us as coaches, us as ministers, we usually do things out of where we're at. It's just life we post. I mean, it's like the greatest leaders in America know how to tap into that thing and work themselves out and bring a lot of people with them. And, girl, I'm going To tell you something. I remember driving to church that Sunday. I lost my daddy on a Saturday night. And I was God. Like, I was really mad at God. Like, how can you not heal this man that still had so much of a life left? And my mom and him were married for 52 years, and finally, finally at a place where they could travel, enjoy life. How can you not heal him? And I remember that Saturday night, God said I did heal him. He got his ultimate healing.
Girl, I got chills all over me.
Like, just because it didn't happen the way I wanted it to happen. And, Hannah, I believe that you and I would not be walking in the capacity that we're even walking in today, because my daddy's death made me a better person. Like, we would not be carrying the legacy of our family out if we didn't realize that they're right where they need to be and we're right where we need to be. And so I remember going to church that Sunday, and, like, I can't do this. And I remember just hearing the Lord say, you mourn and move. Get up, mourn and move because you got this. And you're going to bring a lot of people out of grief because of this. And so, yes, absolutely, girl. When we realize that our parents are right where they need to be and we still got all this legacy to carry out for them. And being a woman, too, Hannah, you know, us being leaders like we are, there's a. A side of us that wants to collapse.
Yeah, we want taken care of.
Yes, we might be taken care of. Yeah, we might be alpha females, but we want to be taken care of.
Yeah, we want someone to come in and pay the bills and tuck us into bed at night and give us some hot chocolate and let us quit. And let us quit.
But it ain't gonna happen. It just ain't gonna happen. Because God created us to be bulldozers, and that's what we are. We are bulldozers in the spirit, being trailblazers. And so when you realize you'll get up, you will keep getting up one more time. You will make sure you're not bleeding on people that didn't cut you in these. In these seasons. And you'll just keep showing up. Even if you feel discombobulated, you just keep showing up. And you realize that you're probably helping more people in that season of brokenness than you ever would in that season of healing. Something about that fresh wound.
Something about that.
Yes.
I remember hearing someone say, always, like, tell people about your scars. But don't let them see your wounds. And I thought, that is such a lie. That is. That is so inauthentic. Jesus showed, like, he not only carried our pain, he showed that, yeah, I'm supposed to hide. Like, I, I. I don't want those kind of leaders in my. I don't want those kind of people in my life that feel like, let me just go in my corner and let me deal with my stuff, and then let me put out some Persona that I think you need to see. Like, we have to. Especially in ministry, you come real or don't come at all, literally.
You know what I always say, Hannah, I've said this forever. I don't want no friends that ain't got a limp. I need some people in my life.
I need to see. I need to see. I need to see Jacob hobbling around. You're welcome in my circle.
I need to see that you have made it through something. I need to see that when I'm down out, that you can push me instead of let me go. You know what I'm saying?
Right. Right.
It's just like. It's just a beautiful thing when you can see these people that are just get up and go, man, because life's gonna happen. It's just gonna happen, man. We're not gonna always have great life. Life lives.
Yeah, well. Well, I mean, Jesus didn't skirt around that. He said, look, in this world, you are going to have trouble. But here's the deal. We. He put a semicolon after that, not a period. So people think, well, you know, Jesus said, in this world, I'm gonna have trouble, so let me just sit in it. No. He said, but take joy. I've overcome the world. We forget to move to the other side of the phrase and realize, all right, this. This really sucks right now. This pain, this hurt, this wound, this. This loss. I can feel it, but I can move through it.
Come on. Because it's there. It's not. It's not a lie.
Right?
You know, Hannah, probably in the last three weeks, I've had more people reaching out to me that are walking through divorce. People I never thought would ever. I'm like, y' all were relationship goals for me.
Wow.
They're literally walking through divorce. People that are like, you're the first person I thought of, because I am walking through what you're walking through, and nobody else would understand it. And so if this encourages anybody watching this today, that you may not want to be known for what you walk through, you may be Embarrassed and mortified right now that that marriage didn't work or you fell apart when that person died and you lost it for 60 days and then had to pull it back around. Whatever it is in your life that has hurt you the worst, that is going to be the greatest place that God uses you.
Come on. Come on.
That thing that you thought was going to. I'm talking, tear you apart and you are never gonna ever see light again. That's the area that you can't sleep on. This is why the enemy, he cannot take you out, so he wears you out. And he does it through you. Isolating and feeling ashamed that you either one didn't get through it the way you thought, that you felt like you let people down, or that you're mortified that you're. You're a winner and everything do. But on this part of your life, you lost. You felt you lost, but yet it was the catapultion, it was the. The pivot that God's going to use to make you a best in that area.
Wow, girl, that is so much fire right there. Because that's the part, like the. The places in our life where Satan tries to create the most shame is that. Look, you. You really can't handle this. You really showed up bad. You really don't have the faith that you thought you had. Look at all the people you're letting down. I mean, I'm just, you know, saying this for a friend. I have no idea. But all those things, all those messages that say, it's like if he can pile on the shame enough, he will immobilize you, period.
And that's what he wants to do. You know, I always say this, Hannah. Thieves don't rob empty vaults.
There you go.
Like, you are not walking through what you're walking through because you are weak. Walking through it because there's something in you that is so powerful, the enemy doesn't want you to get to get to it. Because he knows your future. He can't take you out, so he wears you out by your thoughts. We're the worst at beating ourselves up, man. The worst at letting pride come in and ruin good relationships or ruin our. Our confidence for that next season to try again. That. That rejection just. Oh, I don't want to feel that again. So I'm just going to stop here and settle in Mediocrity. No, man, you gotta go harder. I always say this. Balls to the wall. Yeah, balls to the wall. When you don't want to go balls to the wall. Oh, no, Yeah, I love that.
So tempting to, like, settle in that place. Like, it's safer here because sometimes it's like, oh, look, like, I tried it. I got burned. So I'm gonna retract myself into this small place because it's safer. But here we go. We have one life. We forget that we don't get a do over. We have one life. Are you gonna let that, that magnificence, that brilliance, that one resource this world needs, that God planted in you to stay in there because you don't think it's safe? Of course it's not safe. Of course it's not safe. When did we get the idea that it's safe? So get out there and make as many mistakes as you can. Fall on your face. Say, hey, I fell on my face. Everyone see that. Everyone see me fall on my face. All right, let's go. Blood coming down your nose. You're like, all right. I. I tell people, like, sometimes you had to get so battle weary, you become just drunk in the spirit, where you're like, I don't care. Like, I don't have anything to lose now. I've already, like, it's a beautiful place to be. Place where you're like, it really doesn't matter anymore. I tried the whole, like, let me put my image out there. I tried to, like, do it in my power. So what if I just let God's power that is at work in me, through me, do that exceedingly, abundantly great thing that he has for me because I evidently can't do it on my own.
Come on, Hannah. And it works. It just works. It's like, surrender. That's been the greatest word for me in the last year is just surrender. Like, no, it doesn't look like you want it to look, maybe. But if you surrender, if you just be like God. You said in Amos 9, 13 out of that Thug version translation but it won't be long now. God's decree said, things are about to happen so fast, my head is about to spin. Blessing upon blessing. I won't be able to keep up. So it tell me that if this is the word of God and this is what he says in. In. In Ephesians 3:20, he's going to do exceedingly, abundantly more than I could ever ask or think. So if I'm not accom. If I'm not accomplishing this in my life, then God, show me the areas that you need to expose me so I can expand. Yeah, surrender.
And that's surrender. I surrender. And I'm just going to be a conduit now.
Yes.
It's almost like you have to go through enough pain and where you don't hold, like, caution anymore. And so it's like, okay, I'm open. If I need to, like, hurt people's feelings, if I need to break off some stuff, if I need to make some hard decisions that I know God is putting in me. All right? Because you know what? At the end, he's got it all anyway.
He's got it all. And he's gonna. He's gonna work. I love Romans 8. 28. It's just working all things together for my. So he's working your mama's death for my good. He's working my daddy's death for my good. He's working that divorce where everybody's talking about you out for your good. And if you just hold on, just hold on. Even when you want to throw in the towel to grab the hem of his garment and just hold on. Because every storm runs out of rain. And God is working all things together for your good. And you gotta get up. You gotta get up one more time.
Just one more time. You can make the decision to get up again later, but right now, you just have to get up one more time.
Hey, one way at a time.
Sometimes, what is it? The righteous fall seven times and they.
Get up again like you're dragging your big old thick thigh. But, baby, at least you moving.
Someone said. Someone said, but I'm so scared I'm gonna fail in my business. So I was like, yeah, you probably will.
You probably will.
I failed seven times.
Wasn't it like Kentucky Fried Chicken? He was, what, 65 when he figured out the Kentucky Fried Chicken. Yeah, it's never too late. Like, I didn't even. I didn't even preach my first sermon until I was 41. That's how late I was. I mean, I was still working at Bloomingdale's making 13 an hour 10 years ago, like, 11 years ago now. And it's just like that moment when you just say, man, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired, so I'm gonna get up. Look, Hannah, they gotta get my book.
Yes. Yeah, you really do.
Y' all gotta get it. Because in this book, you go to Amazon, anywhere books are sold. You gotta get up, y'. All. I put so many stories in this book of people in the Bible that had the worst life, but winning, so it. So losing is not the final destination. It's just part of the anointing. It's the drip.
And it actually, you need that. You need that experience to become the kind of person who can hold the anointing that God has waiting for you. So you can't bypass this. If this was inevitable to reach your promised land, would you still do it? You would get back up? Okay, I'm gonna. I'm a quick scenario.
Okay.
Here's a person who's watching or listening and saying, oh, but it's so hard. And I just feel like I don't have anyone around to help me. And I've been in this pit so long. Oh, but I don't want to go to a website and buy a book. Okay. I'm just like, saying, guys, there is a reason you are watching this or listening to this, seeing this right now. Because if it is that simple, what does that. That getting you got to get up is not only just getting a resource, but it's showing a sign to God. I'm not giving up. I'm still in the game. I'm still faithful. I'm still at it. And so that's the integrity. This morning, when I was in my devotion, I was reading in psalms. I think it was Psalm 26. I'm not sure. I could totally be wrong, but basically it said, God, according to my integrity, I have been faithful. Here's David saying, look, I've been. I've been living in integrity. I've been faithful, and I believe I'm gonna see you come through. So show up with integrity. Take that next step. If that means getting this book, if that means having that conversation, if that means making that decision, whatever it is, get back up.
You know, Hannah, I remember, I mean, I was tore up from the flora. Like, I was raised in a religion that said, you get divorced, you're going to hell on a slip and slide. I mean, I. Literally every single thing that I was ever taught, I walked it. I did it. I created my own storms and was mad at God when it rained and bleeding on people that didn't cut me. And it was. The reason I write books today is because I was in special ed my whole life.
I think we talked about that. We were in special edition.
This is how come in. You don't give up. Because we fought through special ed.
I had to ride the short bus, baby.
Me too. And so I. I write these books because I remember being in that pit at 36 years old and nobody understanding me because nobody had walked through what I had walked through. And I'm over here wanting somebody to throw me a rope, and nobody could Throw me a rope because they don't understand. And so I write these books so that it can be manuals for you to. And I even got an audio on Amazon where I read the whole book to you. The real talk, yeah, you got to get up audio is so that I remember in those moments, I grabbed a book, right? Feelings Buried Alive never Die. I could sit and remember the books. The first time I ever finished a book was when I hit rock bottom and found out who the rock was at the bottom, which was Jesus. And so I knew it took my class participation, Hannah. I knew it was going to take me, getting my hands on material because nobody else around me could tell me what to do, could tell me any way to get out of this pit. But books of people that had made it through or podcast of people that had made it through was a voice for me in that season. And so that's why I write these books, is because I know what it was like to not have those resources. But a book is what changed my life when I got my hands on Amen.
Let's go, you guys.
Yeah.
Kim, thank you so much for hanging out with me. I loved it, boy. To talk with you. Thank you.
This is why I love zooms and social medias. Because you live all the way in Cal. Where you live? California.
I'm in Virginia.
Virginia. Cali. Well, you know what? I get to see you like I was right next door. So this honor. Privilege. Thank you.
Thank you so much. Guys, make sure you check out. First of all. Go get a copy of you gotta get up and then make the decision to get up, because your miracle's waiting. It really is.
