In this episode of The Mom Show, host Hannah Keeley shares her personal experience of five of her ten‑person household moving out within five months—two marriages, two college departures, and one med‑school move. She describes the shock of feeling "fired" from her lifelong role as a full‑time mom and outlines three faith‑based strategies that helped her navigate the transition. First, she explains how the anticipation of a major life change is often far more frightening than the reality, urging listeners to take each day step‑by‑step. Second, she recounts a prayer walk where she sensed God’s reassurance that He is already present in the future, encouraging present‑moment focus. Third, she introduces a paradigm‑shifting question—"What does this make possible?"—to reframe loss as opportunity, leading to new family adventures, travel, and personal growth. Throughout, Hannah promotes Mom Mastery University and a free starter kit for moms, inviting listeners to engage with additional resources and share their own fears and hopes.

Five kids in five months. That's how many kids moved out of my house. And that's the time duration that it took for them to do it. I didn't know what I was going to do. I was faced with basically being fired from my job as a mom. So if you're there, well, one day.
You'Re going to be there.
If you're not, you need to know how to deal with it. I got three things that I think are going to help you today.
Here's the big question. How are these average, everyday moms getting radical results in their lives?
How are they able to transform their health?
Money, families, homes, and have fun doing it?
The trick.
We're not average.
I'm Hannah Keeley, and I'm going to spill our secrets and answer your questions.
Right now in that mom show.
All right, so this is what happened, y', all, in the matter of five months. My. My five oldest kids, one got married, but two got married. Okay? One moved out to go to college. Two other. Two of the other ones, one moved out to go to med school. 2. The other ones moved out to go to college. 5 kids in 5 months. I was not expecting it. It hit me like a wall. I remember thinking before this all happened, I was going from a house full of 10 people to half that in a matter of five months. Five of my kids moved out in five months. College, getting married, med school, all that kind of stuff. So I remember going into this phase thinking, what in the world? Like, I don't even know what this looks like. My entire life, practically. Well, the life that I could, you know, I've really participated in and not just had things given to me, but the life that I created really has been building a home and a family. That was my life from morning to night for over 20 years. That was my life. If it wasn't diapers, it was toddlers. And then it was like learning how to manage the middle school years, and then it was high school and all the stuff in between managing everything and building a home at the same time. And I remember going into this with a house of 10 people, okay, 10 people in the family, and thinking, I don't even know what this looks like. I don't know how I'm going to handle this. And you hear all these horror stories about, oh, my gosh, my. My child moved out to college and it practically destroyed me. I didn't even know who I was. And I heard all this stuff, all negative, of course. And here I was not just facing one child moving out but five children moving out, like I said, all within five months. And I remember going into this phase of life and seeking God and saying, God, I don't even know what this looks like. I'm scared. I'm a little. I mean, I'm sad because when I looked at my life, it was like, you know, I'm a mom. Like, that's my first job. That's my most important job. You know, creating a family and a home. That was my very most important job. Still is. But I was like, God, I don't. I don't know how I'm gonna handle this. Like, that's. That's my entire life. And basically, I'm getting myself fired as a.
As a mom.
Sorry if it's kind of windy right now. I'm sitting outside on our dock, and it's just beautiful. It's. The sun is shining, the dogs are playing in the lake over there, and it's just. It's gorgeous today. So I wanted to be outside and hang out with you. But going into this, I really didn't know what to expect. And if you have not gone through this and you're a mom, you will go through this. And there are three things that really was such a source of strength and reassurance that I did not expect. And here's what I'm telling you. When you face that time in your life where you're getting fired, you will get fired from your. If you're a good mom, okay? If you're a good mom, and if you're following me, if you're tuning into me, then, you know, being a mom is so important. And we don't mom like other people mom. We mom different. Like, we do things different. That's our whole. That's our whole slogan. Inside Mom Mastery University. We mom different. We don't do things the way the world does things. So three, these three things, and the first one, I want to tell you, number one, it's not what you think. It's not what you think. And this is what I've learned about any type of victory in my life, any type of crisis in my life. The anticipation of it is so far different from the reality. Like the anticipation of, you know, having a child move out or, you know, any of these things you come along to that could be very pivotal, pivotal times in your life. A big move, like, you know, the loss of a friend or something. Like all of these things that you anticipate with such fear and worry. It's not that way. You basically go into a different way of operating and you get through it. And hopefully if you're a believer, you got God working on your behalf and he's going to see you through it. He's going to give you strength that you didn't know you had. But the anticipation of it is always bigger and more exaggerated than the reality. You're like, oh, my God, I don't know how I'm going to do this. And then all of a sudden you face it and you're like, okay, I'm going to do this today, then I'm going to do this tomorrow, then I'm going to do it the next day. I'm not going to get there yet. I'm just going to do it today. And the same thing with huge victories in your life, like when you anticipate, you think, oh my gosh, that is when my life's going to be awesome. When I get that new job, when I finally get, have a baby, when I finally like, get that house that I want, like, oh my gosh, that's going to be so fireworks and everything is going to be awesome. And then you get there, it's like, oh, okay, like, like it's great, but you're already beyond it by the time you get it. And so, like, the reality of it is never quite like the anticipation of it. So that's what I want to tell you. If you're facing, like kids moving out, you know, getting fired from your job as a mom, you might think, I don't know how I'm going to cope. I don't know how because I've been a mom for over 20 years and I don't know how. What am I going to be after that? You're going to be you. You're already amazing. You're just going to be still kick butt. You're still going to be amazing.

So don't remember when you're thinking about this and anticipating it. It's always going to be exaggerated from what it actually looks like. So that's number one. Number two, is God's already there. So I remember I was on a walk and I. And I pray on my walks and I was praying and I. And we were just one month away from the first child moving out. And I just, I was just beseeching God, saying, God, I don't, I don't know how I'm going to do this. I don't know how I'm going to cope. God, I don't even know what my life's going to look like. And I started going to him. God, I'm going to need, I need your strength. I need your. I need your compassion. I need your resiliency. And he. He just said, hush, I'm already there. I got this. You just get today. And when he told me that, it was so, it was so clear because I realized, oh, God isn't restricted to right now like I am. He's in the future. He's covering the past. He's. He's the father of time. Like, he created time, so he covers it. So me thinking, I don't know what I'm going to do there. God was saying, I'm already there. I got this. I got it covered. All you, all you care about is right now. Because guess what, you've got all those kids now. And if you start getting into worry and stress about what's coming, you're not totally present for the kids that you have now. And I realized that's where I was slipping. I was slipping into the future saying, what am I going to do? What am I going to do? And I wasn't fully present for my children at that point. And when I realized that, I could snap back and say, no, no, God's got it. Like, he's already there. Doesn't it feel good to know, like, for example, when we have an event and we have, we have a team of people who go there ahead of time and they're there, they're making sure all. Everything's running smooth. They're making sure people are where they need to be. They're making sure all the supplies and all the swags up and, And I'm not, but I know my team's there, so I can rest easy saying, they got it covered. That's what God's telling you. He's like, look, I'm already there. I got it covered. You do what you do today. And I had to be present with my children today or I was going to go ahead and contaminate my present with worry about my future. Now that can happen at any time in Your life. I want you to get that down in your heart. You can easily contaminate the present with stress and worry about the future. And I don't want that to happen because you have right now. You need to be fully present, taking advantage of everything God's given you right now. Now, the third thing that I think is going to help you when you're fired as a mom, because you going to be fired, your butt's going to be fired. Baby. You worked yourself out of a job, okay? Your goal is to create independent adults who can go and change the world and glorify God and operate in their anointing. That's your job. You do your job right, you will be fired. So what do you do? The third thing I want you to ask yourself this question. This is a question you're going to ask yourself when you get to that life point. What does this make possible? What does this make possible? That's a question you can ask yourself. Because here's the thing I've learned about life is that we live it in chapters. And one chapter doesn't always look like the next chapter and does always look like the next chapter. And have you ever read ahead and you're like, oh man, it doesn't make this chapter as much fun because now I know, like who really killed the person and now I know that they fell in love and now I know that this isn't the real hero. Isn't the hero, like if you sneak a peek and you read ahead, it doesn't make reading the current chapter as much fun and enjoyable because you don't get so excited. That's living by faith. You have to be excited about right now and where it's going. You have to be excited about that. So what I'm telling you is this chapter in life, when you look at the next chapter and when you turn the page of it and when you get to that time, you're going to ask yourself, what does this make possible? Not how does this hurt me and what am I worried about? And how do I deal with this loss of identity? Ask yourself in every situation, what does this make possible? Who knows? I've worked with moms who developed courses, they've written books, they're going out and starting a brand new career, they're following their passions, they're getting into the music industry. What does this make possible for you? This is not your only chapter. You're going to be living out a lot more chapters because God has got a full and complete work to do in your life. If you get stuck in this chapter, you're not going to have the joy of the next one. So what does this make possible for me? And that's just. It's called a paradigm shift. It's a way of looking at a life situation, and all of a sudden it takes a totally different. You take a totally different perspective, and things change drastically. Now, I will tell you this. It was awesome. Five kids moving out in five months. I thought it was. It was hard as far as labor getting their butts out of that house and moving and getting trucks and all that. But I will tell you, it was actually really fun. It actually is really fun. And what did it make possible for us? I know the older kids were really mad, but we. We started with our three youngest. We started traveling more. We got to take them to Scott Gotland with us. We took them to Iceland with us. And. And the older kids are like, what? Like, you didn't do that with us. I was like, yeah, there are too many of you. You're out now. So. So we didn't go into it with the, oh, no, what are we going to do? We went into with, what does this make possible? Like, what can we do now? Where can we move forward? What can we do with the gaps? How can we fill them? And how can we, like, create a joyful experience out of this? And I'm telling you, I didn't. You're not going to believe me. I know I didn't cry one time. Does that make me a bad mom? I don't know. Maybe. So I didn't cry one time. It was so exciting to see my kids get married and go off and start their families and get into college and be able to, like, have the feeling of accomplishment, of living on their own. Of course, a couple of them have moved back home. I'm like, no, you ain't moving back home. Like, I already got rid of you. You ain't moving back home, like, in apartment. But they're finding their place. And that's what makes me so joyful. And so it's exciting. It's joyful. I want you to know you will be fired as a mom. But what's on the other side of that can be splendid. It could be amazing. I hope this helped you out. Remember, like, you can go to my website anytime and. And download the transcript of this.
