Are you a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian?
17 Jan 2020 · 19 min
In this motivational faith‑based podcast episode, Hannah Keeley addresses mothers and other listeners, warning them against living as a “Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian.” Using the TV show metaphor, she explains that many Christians continue to operate under the “earthly kingdom” mindset—characterized by struggle, hustle, and a currency of money—despite having been transferred by God into the “kingdom of light.” She cites Colossians (the transfer from darkness to light) and John 10:10 (abundant life) to illustrate the theological basis for a new way of living. Keeley contrasts the old kingdom’s principles (earning, competition, self‑reliance) with the spiritual kingdom’s principles (faith as currency, humility, serving, receiving God’s riches without effort). She urges listeners to adopt kingdom principles—faith, humility, surrender, and reliance on God’s finished work—so they can experience rest, joy, and “radical results” in health, finances, family, and personal fulfillment. The episode concludes with a promotional call‑to‑action offering a free “Mom Show Starter Kit” (time‑management program, faith‑based meditation, and manifesto) via thatmomshow.com or by texting “KIT” to 345345.

Here's the big question. How are these average, everyday moms getting radical results in their lives? How are they able to transform their health, money, families, homes, and have fun doing it? The trick? We're not average. I'm Hannah Keeley and I'm going to spill our secrets and answer your questions right now in that Mom. Hi, guys. Okay, got a question for you. Are you a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian? This is really important. You need to know if you are a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian. I'm going to explain what I mean. Because if you are a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian, you're going to be pretty darn miserable. Even if you have the presence of Almighty God inside of you, even if you have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb, even if you know the word, you're gonna live a miserable life if you're doing life like a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian. Here's what I mean by this, okay? In Colossians, it talks about how God actually pulled us out of a kingdom of darkness and transferred us into a kingdom of light. Let me read that to you really quick. This is. I don't even know which chapter. Okay? But it's in Colossians, so someone can tell me what chapter it is. That's great. Verse 13. The Father has delivered. Maybe it's one the Father has delivered and drawn us to himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love. You've been transferred out of one kingdom into another kingdom. That's what happened with when you asked Jesus in your heart, when you became a Christian, when you said yes to Jesus. And if you haven't, can I just recommend you do that? Because it's super simple. It's not complicated. You don't have to make some incredible, like, it's not laborious. It's not hard. It's not a struggle. You don't have to, like, check off all the boxes. It's really simple. It's a prayer and you just say, lord Jesus, I believe you died for my sins. Thank you for that. Forgive me. Come into my heart, Take my life. Do something awesome with it. Amen. It's just that one moment when you decide, you know what? I want Jesus to take over. That's all it is. So let's say you made that decision. Let's say Jesus is the Lord of your life. And let's say that when you said yes to Jesus, God did what he promised he would do. And he takes you out of this kingdom of darkness and puts you into a kingdom of light. Two different kingdoms, two different ways of operating, two different mindsets, two different methods, two different forms of currency, even. But you're still living the old way. See, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, he had kind of a struggle in adjusting. I mean, he went from the hood and then he went into, like, this really ritzy place, and it was like, dude, we don't eat like that. We don't talk like that. We don't behave like that. We sure don't dance like that. Like, all of a sudden, it was like this really hard transition, and that was difficult for him. Well, it was also pretty funny, too, but. But you might be living as a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian. He learned the methods. He learned how to adapt. And the funny aspect of it was the incongruity between where he came from and now where he was living. But it's not so funny when you are a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian, when a kingdom of struggle, a kingdom of hardship, and then you understand this way of operating, the natural way of operating, the earthly way of operating. And then God moves you into a new kingdom where you have access to kingdom riches, where you have access to a new way of operating, where you have access to earning favor instead of working for it. And all of a sudden, you're still trying to do things the old way. You're struggling, friend. When you don't have to struggle, it's a lot easier than that. But here's the deal. If you don't know how to live by kingdom principles, you're going to be pretty miserable. See, just because you're a Christian does not mean life all of a sudden gets easy and rosy and it's fun and glorious. Sometimes it can be absolutely stinking miserable because you haven't learned how to operate. It'd be like the time when I went to France and I had no idea how to ride the transportation system. I got lost, had no idea where I was, and it was really bad. When you can't find a bathroom, I'm just telling you, really bad. So when you have been transferred into a kingdom of light, you have to know how to operate. Operate in that kingdom. You got to know that the same principles that worked in the earthly kingdom don't necessarily apply in this new kingdom. You see, in the old kingdom, you have to earn a living. You have to work for it. You have to struggle, you have to hustle. In this new kingdom, we have access to his riches. And Glory simply by the currency of faith. In the earthly kingdom, it's a currency of money. And the spiritual kingdom is a currency of faith. That faith is. We use that to release the money into our life. So let's say in the old kingdom, how do you get ahead? You step on people. You have to elbow your way up to the front. If someone attacks you, you attack them back. That's how you get to the top. That's the earthly kingdom. When you get transferred into the heavenly kingdom. That's not how it works. When you. It says in the Bible, when you humble yourself before the mighty hand of God, that he will in due time, exalt you. So how do you get ahead? You humble yourself. Isn't that crazy? How do you get more money? You give. How do you get ahead? You serve. It's crazy. It's like upside down, inside out and backwards, but in such a good way, because the struggle is off. You don't have to be a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian. You don't have to live confused. You don't have to struggle. You don't have to make it hard. It's not supposed to be hard. You're supposed to enjoy your life. And God has a way for you to do that. If you feel like, Hannah, I just don't know what I need to do. I feel like I need to do something. Well, maybe in the earthly kingdom. Yeah. How do you make progress? You do. You do. You do. You work. You work, you work. How do you make progress in the spiritual kingdom? It's belief. Belief. Believe harder. Build your faith up. That's how you get ahead. You see, God wants to do all things in you and through you. But unless you're operating by kingdom principles, you're never going to see the results. And, friend, I want you to see the results. I want you to enjoy life in Bel Air. I want you to enjoy this kingdom life because God wants you to enjoy life. That's why in John 10:10, Jesus said, I have come, that you may have life in abundance to the full till it overflows that overflow life. I believe that's why you're here. I believe that's why you're tuning in. I believe that's why you're listening and watching the crazy, blessed Bible study. Because the Bible is not just an antique book that sits on a shelf and is handed down and it's got some good little quotes in it. The Bible is a living, breathing entity which you can use, just like an artist uses oil paints to create your Masterpiece of a life. When you get into the Word, and that's what I love doing. I love taking the Word and seeing what does this look like in real life? What does this principle look like when you live it out? What does it look like on a daily, daily execution? It looks totally different from how the earthly kingdom operates. Earthly kingdom is a struggle. Heavenly kingdom is not. The struggle is all in your belief. And that's why the Bible says to. To labor to enter that secret place, labor to enter into that rest. Isn't that awesome? Like in the earthly kingdom, when you know, doing things the earthly way, work in that system, you have to labor, you have to work hard, you have to struggle and strain. It's the blood, sweat, and tears. You know how it is, the heavenly kingdom. That's why the Bible says you labor to enter into the rest. How cool is that? In the spiritual kingdom, there is rest. We rest in the finished work of Jesus. That means whatever you want to accomplish in your life, whatever dream you have, whatever goal you set for yourself, whatever the vision is that God has given you for your life, Jesus already authored it and he finished it. He did. He is the finished work. So we don't have to figure out how to do it, and we don't have to step on people, and we don't have to know the right angles, and we don't have to know the right people, and we don't have. We don't have to do any of that. See, God has already. If he gave you a dream, he already gave you a way to make it happen. It's like, it would be like me telling my kids to make a chocolate cake. But I take all. I take the cocoa powder and I take the eggs, and I take the flour, and I take the sugar, and I take the vanilla, and I, like, take the oil, and I hide it all. I take it out of the kitchen. I say, okay, so make. So figure it out. You make me a chocolate cake. That's what the earthly king. We got to figure it out. We got to work hard, we got to hustle. So when God gives you a dream, he's like, look, make me a chocolate cake. He's saying, go build that business. Go build that family. Go create that wealth. Go travel the world. Whatever vision he's given you, he also gave you every single ingredient. All we have to do is put. Plug into the word and get the recipe. That's what God's word, it is the recipe to put all the ingredients together that he gives us to make that masterpiece of a life. You're not here to struggle. You're not here to figure it out. You're not here to see if you can make it through the day. Yolo, right? You only live once. Like, make this life your masterpiece. Don't keep on struggling as, like a Bel Air Christian saying, I don't. I can't figure out this. This life I'm struggling. I know it should be better than. I know it should be easier, but I'm used to the struggle. I'm used to the headache. I'm used to the stress. It just has become a habit. Move into this new way of operating. So when you can't figure it out, you're able to say, wait a minute, maybe I don't have to figure it out. Maybe I can let this go. Maybe I can do just what Jesus said. Cast all my cares upon him because he cares for me. So we don't have to carry the stress. We don't have to figure out the recipe and hustle and find the ingredients. God's like, look, I've got a way, and it's easy. He said, take my yoke upon you because it's easy. You can bear it easy. It's easy to be born. It's not a struggle. It's not pressing. It's not digging in. It's not hard. There's two yokes, friend. There's two ways of living. There's two kingdoms, there's two methods of operation. It's that hard yoke, that. That yoke of religion or. Or that hard way of living where you have to work hard, you have to struggle, you have to prove yourself right. Or there's the yoke of relationship, Having a relationship with Jesus where he does it all through you. It's not you being smart enough or educated enough or talented enough, thank God. It's all about him doing the work through you. It's about you being available, not able, but available for him to do something great and magnificent and mighty in your life. You're here for purpose. God wants to do something amazing in you and through you, but you can't do it if you're still trying to do things the old way, the struggle way, the stress way. Cast your cares. You don't have to figure this out. Maybe today's the day when all that changes. Maybe today is the day when you quit being a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Christian. Own your place. Own your place at the table. See, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air never really fit in around the dinner table. You know, he always like, couldn't figure out how to do things. You know what, friend? You don't have to struggle. You don't have to, like, eat the scraps off the floor. You don't have to beg and plead for your fair share because God has laid out the banquet table for you, and he has a seat with your name on it right beside him. See, in the old system, you have to earn it. And the heavenly system, this new system, this kingdom of light that God transferred you into, that you inherit, you don't earn it. You inherit it because you are a child of the most high God. He has a place for you right there. Your name's on it now. You can still struggle and strain. You can still dig around for scraps from the table. You can still beg and plead out the door, or you can say, wait, I'm a child here. I'm a child of the most high God. He. He has a seat for me. I don't have to struggle at this. I don't have to figure it out. I don't know how to carry the heartache and the pain and the stress. I can just sit my cute buns down right there in that seat that has my name on it and enjoy the banquet. Because I did not have to earn it. I inherited it as a child of God. You're a child of God. He has adopted you into his family. You're royalty. You are royalty. Get that in your head. You're not a peasant that has a struggle. You are royalty that has a place at the banquet table. Own it. Step into it. It doesn't have to be a struggle. Maybe today, this is your invitation to take your seat. Maybe today God is telling you, all this stuff you're carrying around, all the stress, all the pain, trying to figure things out. Maybe today's the day when you're like, how about I don't? How about I don't? How about today I just decide to plant all that crap down at the feet of Jesus and say, I'm done. I'm done trying to figure it out. I'm done trying to work it. I'm done trying to get an angle done, lay it all down and just say, God, I'm gonna take you at your word and I'm gonna rest in your finished work. I'm not gonna try to fit in and do things the old way because you brought me into a brand new kingdom. I'm gonna do things your way. I'm gonna believe. I'm gonna start speaking words of faith instead of words of fear. I'm gonna start believing for more instead of being afraid of less. I'm going to start stepping into that place where I know it comes easy. Because your yoke is easy and your burden is light. And I willingly take that on and I willingly drop off this pain. You don't have to struggle. This is your invitation today to stop being a Bel Air Christian and step into your place as a child. God. Step into the Kingdom of Light. Know how to do things by digging into His Word and let God create that masterpiece of a life. I got you friend. I love you. I care about you.
