Hannah Keeley argues that mother burnout is a mindset myth, not an overload problem. She offers three fixes: add spontaneity for novelty, set big goals that pull you forward, and schedule a monthly self-care day to keep your brain's reward system active.

Hey, mama, do you ever feel burned out? You've just done too much. You heaped too much on your plate. You got so much going on. Burning the candle at both ends, and. Yep, here it comes. Burnout. Well, how would you feel if I told you burnout isn't even a thing? Most moms are just believing the big burnout myth. Actually, it's not an overloaded life. It all comes from a misaligned mindset. And I'm going to tell you the three things you can do and to overcome it in today's podcast. Here's the big question. How are these average, everyday moms getting radical results in their lives? How are they able to transform their health, money, families, homes, and have fun doing it? The trick? We're not average. I'm Hannah Keeley, and I'm going to spill our secrets and answer your questions right now in that mom show. All right. We hear a lot about burned out. We sure do. It's like, yep, it's just, you know, you. You've reached the end of your rope, you're doing too much, and you just can't do it anymore. You just don't even want to get up in the morning. Yep, I hit it rock bottom. I'm burned out. Well, sometimes we throw around a term so much that we begin to believe it, even though it may not even be a thing. And I'm going to tell you something today. I believe that most moms, and especially for those moms who are like, well, we're all working moms, but you hear a lot about, like, the homeschool mom burnout, like, you don't even want to teach your kids, or you just, like, tired of the. Of the toddlers or, you know, trying to balance work and parenting. It's just too much. I'm burned out. Sometimes we throw around these terms, but I believe that this is just a myth. I believe that we've been suckered into believing that burnout is a thing that we can actually get at the end of our rope and we can collapse from the pressure of doing too much. But the more I realize how much I'm capable of doing, the more I realize that, really, we've just been believing a myth. It's the big burnout myth. And if we keep telling ourselves, yep, I'm burned out, then, yeah, we will feel this way. We're going to feel no motivation, total anxiety, total overwhelm, exhaustion. We don't even want to get out of bed. We've just been suckered into believing a myth. And I want to tell you that as surprising as it is, I really don't believe burnout is a thing. I don't believe that we can do too much. Now, here's where you're like, hannah, come on. Yes, you can. Like, when you take on too much, you do. You get overwhelmed, you spread yourself out too thin, and you crash. Well, that's what we believe. But maybe, maybe now just give you the benefit of the doubt here. Maybe our mindset has just not caught up to our lifestyle yet. Maybe it's not that we're doing too much. Maybe it's that we don't understand effectively how to do it all. Big difference between the two, because I remember feeling burnt out when I was doing maybe a tenth of what I'm doing now. But what I've learned are strategies. I've learned how to keep the mindset aligned. And I don't believe burnout is a thing if you. You are doing three things to help prevent it. Now, burnout, I don't believe, comes from doing too much because a lot of times we exceed our expectations, when more is expected of us and when we're more excited about what we're doing. I believe burnout happens because we have not properly handled our life demands. We haven't put the right skills in place. We haven't personally managed ourselves properly. And so we're going to prevent that. We're going to prevent this whole emotional overload thing from happening, because I believe it's a mindset thing way more than it is a lifestyle thing. So it doesn't come from an overloaded life. It comes from a misaligned mindset. And I'm going to tell you three things, and I really want you to think about this. Consider this. After you listen to this podcast, I want you to see how you can put these three things into effect now so you don't have, quote, unquote, burnout. As a mom, I believe every mom has to have this or we will. Our mindset will get screwed up and we'll just collapse physically and emotionally. So the first thing is spontaneity. The reason a lot of us have this emotional collapse, this burnout feeling, is we don't have enough spontaneity. Now, spontaneity is just a human need. You may think, oh, but Hannah, I'm not the spontaneous type. Trust me, I like routine. I like same old, same old. There's comfort in that. I get you. I am married to a person who is exactly like that. Loves the routine. I also love my routines But I like to have more spontaneity as well. But I will tell you, it is a human need. Whether your need is strong or more, you know, it's a smaller need, it's a weaker need. You still have a need for spontaneity. And when you're doing the same thing on a loop every single day, what happens is your mindset can get bored. You become bored and you don't feel challenged. You don't feel excited. There's no adrenaline that's driving you forward and so you're not motivated to do it. It's not that you're doing too much. It's like, this isn't filling a need in me. This isn't meeting some desire that I have. This isn't exciting anymore. When you're excited about something, time just seems to have is not even a variable. You will go without eating because you're excited about doing something. You wake up and you want to do it, you're excited about it. And you can do 10 times more than you think you can when you're excited about what you're doing. Like, you will work until you're exhausted physically. Like, your muscles are trembling just because you're excited. Excited about it. For example, my sister loves. I know some of you are like, I don't get it. Some of you are like, yes, girl, you're my sister. My sister loves to do yard work. She loves pruning, she loves digging in the dirt. She loves planting. She loves nothing more than taking someone's yard and making it beautiful. Loves it. She has such an amazing ability. Hey, mama. We'll get right back to the podcast, but did you know there is an entire online university just for moms? If you're ready to get radical results in your life, just go to mommastery.com that's M O M M A S T-E-R-Y dot com. Make sure you check it out and take your free quiz again. That's mommastery.com M O M M A S T-E-R-Y.com now back to the podcast. So she comes over to my yard. That is not my thing. Like, my rose bushes have gone. Two years totally neglected. She worked until she was, like, blistered and muscles trembling, hands aching until it was too dark to even work anymore. Because she loves it so much. She's excited about it. It's not boring to her. It's not work to her. Like, I had to practically make her stop. She loves to do it, though, and therefore she can do so much more than an average person who's not excited about it could do. They would do like, oh, prune a couple rose bushes. That's all. But she's like tearing apart the whole yard. Like, it's incredible how much she got done, but because she's excited. So you really need to make sure you're having enough spontaneous activity in your daily life. Same old, same old. There is comfort in routines, but there's also excitement in spontaneity. So how can you add a little bit of excitement to your day? How can you add a little bit of the unexpected, the different, the peculiar? Think about ways that you can make things spontaneous and then you won't feel so burned out. Now that's one thing. And this, this can feel uncomfortable for some people. But just, just trust me on this. Just for three weeks, I want you to think about one thing you can do. Every week. There will be just something a little bit different. I remember I would get so burned out with the typical homeschooling routine and I would get to where I don't even want to teach you grammar. I don't even want to go through this program. What that means is, yep, it's time for a field trip. It's time for a different unit study. It's time for something exciting. It's time to go outside and read stories on a blanket. It's time to add some spontaneity to it. Because I was getting bored. Therefore, I was starting to feel what typically we title burnout. But really it was boredom. You don't want that. Another thing I want you to consider is this emotional collapse often comes from no challenge. You're not being challenged. Nothing is pulling you. You know, when you have your in laws coming to visit, how much of a pull do you feel to clean up your house? It's like, yeah, I will work till 2:30am to get that house clean. Right? When you have a road race coming up and you're training for it, let's say you're training for a 5k and it's coming up, how much of a challenge is that? How, how much of a pull do you feel to get that training? And you feel a lot, right, because a deadline is coming. So sometimes we feel burned out simply because we're not challenging ourselves. You've got to set goals that get you excited. Excited goals that are so big they almost scare you. As a matter of fact, they should scare you. You should set goals that are challenging to you, that wake you up in the morning, that get you excited about it. Put pictures of it all over your house, put it on your phone, make it to where you can see it. Put quotes all over the place. Get excited about this. But set goals so that daily, instead of just going through the same old, same old, getting burned out, you've got a goal that is pulling you. You don't want to be pushed through life, you want to be pulled. When you're pushed through life, what happens? You collapse. You get typical burnout when you're pulled. You're the one driving the machine. You're excited. You're moving forward. Now, one more thing that I want you to do. Please trust me in this. Something that is mandatory if you're inside Mom Master University. This is mandatory that you do one day of this every month. And some of you already know what this is because you're inside Mom Mastery University. And if you're not, why not go to mommastery.com and get plugged in? But you've got to take care of yourself. So important moms will put ourselves last on the totem pole, make sure all the kids have their new shoes for school and we're walking around in our old Navy flip flops that are pulling apart. You know I'm preaching to you. You are not taking care of yourself if you don't take care of yourself. See, we have this thing in our brain called the reward center. And when you constantly are doing something, doing an activity, let's say it's laundry, let's say it's cleaning the house. Let's say you're building your business, you're making calls, your what? Whatever it is, whatever your daily routines to lead to your goals are, whether it's homeschooling, the kids, caring for your home, working in the home, working outside the home, whatever it is. If you don't reward yourself, what your brain tells you is this. Stop. No more. Because this action is not going anywhere. That's called the reward. The reward center is there, so it keeps you moving forward. Now, if you don't reward yourself, why would you ever feel inspired to move forward? Because your brain is telling you don't do it. And that ties into learned helplessness, which, as you probably know, if you've been with me for a while, also is the basis of Mom Fatigue syndrome. You will have that emotional collapse if you are not caring for yourself one day a month. That's what I require of everyone inside Bond Master University. One day a month to take time to care for yourself and having a day to get caught up on your housework is not taking care of yourself is to indulge is to realize that you are a precious, precious treasure, that you're worth it and that your effort is leading you someplace. Stimulate that reward center of your brain. Now let's go over this again. Do something spontaneous. Add spontaneity. Make it a challenge. Something's got to be pulling you forward. And take care of yourself when you do that. These three things, what you're doing is you're aligning your mindset in the direction of where you want to go. Now remember, when you do this, it's not that you have an overloaded life because you're actually going to find you can put more on your plate when you're doing it in the right way, in the right direction. So don't even use burnout. Don't even say it's a thing. We're not. We're going to dispel that big burnout myth today. Burnout's not a thing. If you ever start feeling that, that lack of motivation, that fatigue, stop. Start with these three steps and see where that takes you. I love you, mama. I got your back.
