EP015: The Sneaky Fart Heard Around The World
22 Feb 2019 · 13 min
In this solo episode of The Mom Show, host Hannah Keeley opens with a humorous, personal anecdote about unintentionally walking past a man who let out a massive fart in a dark parking lot while she wore “stealth spy” shoes. She uses the story as a metaphor for how many mothers are facing the wrong direction—looking outward at social media, trends, and external validation instead of turning toward the children and family God has entrusted to them. Keeley urges moms to stop comparing themselves, to show up intentionally for their kids, and to honor their role with humility, discipline, and faith. Throughout the episode she intersperses promotional messages for MomMastery.com and thatmomshow.com, offering a free “Mom Show Starter Kit” (time‑management program, faith‑based meditation, and a printable manifesto) via a website link or by texting “KIT” to 345345. The overall tone is conversational, humorous, and motivational, aiming to inspire mothers to prioritize their immediate family impact over external approval.

Sh. You're joining me for a very, very sneaky episode of that mom show. Shh. Here's the big question. How are these average, everyday moms getting radical results in their lives? How are they able to transform their health, money, families, homes, and have fun doing it? The trick? We're not average. I'm Hannah Keeley, and I'm going to spill our secrets and answer your questions right now in that mom show. Hey, mama. It's me, Hannah. And I'm so excited that you're here with me because I need to tell you about something so sneaky, but so obvious. Oh, my gosh. Okay, so if you hear a little bit of an echo, it's because I'm in the bathroom putting on my makeup, getting ready for the day. You can probably hear all the makeup. I tell you, we don't get this way naturally. We need a little help right here and there. It's Friday morning, and on Friday mornings, my kids go to a co op, which means the house is empty, which means it's a me party. I mean, seriously, if you're a mom, and you probably wouldn't be listening to this if you were not a mom, you know that those moments are very rare, right? When the house is quiet and it's just you and wow. So I am choosing to spend it with you. And I want to tell you a story. It's a pretty funny story, but I also want to tell you about a truth that a lot of moms do not understand. They understand it too late. So I want to tell you about it now so that you don't have the regret later. So stick with me, okay? This happened. It was the fart that was heard around the world. And it was supposed to be sneaky, but it wasn't. Let me explain. So I do some volunteer work, and I was volunteering at a play at a musical. My kids wouldn't freak if they heard me say play. Mama's not a play. It's a musical at a musical. And I was helping out with the theater, so I was loan some stuff in and out and that the play was almost over. We were closing down and getting supplies out of the theater and into the cars and everything. And this is so bad. This is so bad. I can't believe I'm telling you this, but that night I was wearing my super stealth spy shoes, which basically it's these leopard print ballet flats that have a soft bottom and for some reason you can never hear them coming. It's like I could sneak up on anyone because you cannot hear these shoes no matter what floor you step on. So I was wearing my super sneaky stealth spy shoes, my leopard print ballet flats. And the play was almost over and I went outside to this dark parking lot to load up some of the supplies in. In my car. And as I was walking back, I noticed it was dark. Okay, it was late, it was dark. And a gentleman was standing outside of the theater. And he was turning, he was turned to face. It's so bad. He was. Okay, let me, let me straighten up here. He was turned to face the theater, okay, so he was facing the door, so his back is to me. And I'm walking right past him. Like, probably, you know, just like a foot between him and me. Like, I'm walking right past him. But you couldn't hear me because I had my super stealth spy shoes. And right as I was about to pass him, he. He let out the biggest fart you've ever heard. Hey, mama. We'll get right back to the podcast, but did you know there is an entire online university just for moms? If you're ready to get radical results in your life, you just go to mommastery.com that's M O M M A S T E R-Y dot com. Make sure you check it out and take your free quiz again. That's mommastery.com M O M M A S T E R-Y.com now back to the podcast. So it was, it was so loud. It was so obnoxious. It was so, like, trembling and y', all, it was, it was too late. Like, I could do nothing because I was passing him. I was just like within inches of him. So here I come, like, right past him. And you know, you know, y', all, when that man saw this woman pass him right by his side, he's singing. Oh, holy. That's it. I've got to go into, like, the witness protection program. I can't ever show my face. I've got to move to Africa now. I've got to change my name. Like, you're thinking, that's so embarrassing. Like, I didn't even. I didn't even see who it was. Didn't even look at his face. I wasn't going to turn around because I was basically trying to hold in the laugh, like, as much as I could. I walked as quickly as I could past him and into the theater. But you know, that guy was like, man, you know, he felt it. You know, he felt that fart rumbling up and he's like, I got to get out of this theater and let it go. And you and this poor guy, he was thinking he was safe because he was facing the theater. He was like, I'm going to guard it, make sure no one comes out so they can't see, smell, or taste this fart. And I'm just going to let it rip. And he's looking right at the theater. He's not looking behind him because he thinks it's just an empty parking lot. Who would be hanging out in an empty parking lot? Right? Okay, so. But evidently he was facing the wrong way, because somebody did, and it was me. I got the full. The full effect of the fart that was heard around the world. And he thought it was going to be sneaky, but it wasn't. So why am I sharing this with you other than to give you a laugh today? Because it was pretty funny. Like, the minute I got in that building, y', all, I just. I couldn't stop laughing. I was, like, crying, laughing so hard. I know, I know. That's horrible. I'm horrible. I'm horrible. I'm sorry. But I'm sharing this with you because a lot of times as moms, we are always looking out. We're always looking at what do people think of me? Am I measuring up? Am I good enough? We're looking at Facebook, Instagram, snap. We're looking outward at social media. We're looking at how celebrities are living their life. And we're just like, oh, I just want to be good enough. I want to measure up. And we're not realizing that we're facing the wrong way. We're facing out at everyone's highlight reel, at everyone's snapshots, at everyone's little glimpses of their life. And we think, oh, they have their act together. I want to get my act together. And we're not realizing we're facing the wrong way. Because if we turn around and. And we face those people who. We are placed in authority over the platform that God already gave us. Our children, our spouses, the family that God has already entrusted to us. That's the effect we're making. We worry so much about what we look like outwardly. Am I driving the right car? Am I living the right life? Am I wearing the right clothes? Am I saying the right things? And we don't realize that our children are right there in their super sneaky stealth shoes. They're right there under our feet. And often we disregard the very people we have the most influence on. I'm just asking you today, would you today, just turn around. Forget about what everyone else is doing. Forget about what everyone, everyone is saying. Forget about the trends, forget about the fashion, forget about the adequacy that you think you have to be. And turn around and look at those eyes that are watching you all the time. They're seeing you. They're seeing how you respond to situations. They're hearing the tone in your voice when you speak to them. They're seeing how you show up every day, whether or not you're going to go out anywhere or whether or not anyone's coming over. They're seeing how you dress to show them that, yeah, I'm a mom and I love it and I care about you, and I'm going to show up to this profession because it matters. If you're wearing, you know, a dirty T shirt, yoga pants, not showering just because you're there with the kids, they know that you're going forward with disrespect to who you are and the position you've been given as a mom. Now, I'm not saying what, look, get up every day and you better, you know, show up with your hair looking good and good clothes on and put your shoes on and let's get cracking. I'm not saying that. Although a lot of my clients would say, ah, Hannah, yeah, you do. You ride my back all the time. What I am saying is that it matters. It matters how you show up to those people who are always there with you and not to disregard them and not to ever think lightly of the impact that you're making on those eyes that watch you all the time. They're seeing. They're seeing if your eyes are on the screen of your phone more than they are on them. They need your face. They need your eyes. They need you to show up. They need you to be powerful and they need you to love your role as a mom and respect it and approach it with humility and honor and diligence and discipline. Because when you do that, you're telling them by your actions that they matter, that you're showing up for them, that you have an impact and you're going to take it seriously and you're going to carry it through. So I'm just asking you, turn around today, okay? Because the people you're trying so hard to make an impact on and influence on and get likes from, they couldn't care less if you're there tomorrow or not. Honestly, I'm just telling you, seriously, you're an afterthought for them. But for your Children, the ones who are right behind you, who you have all the time, who see you morning, noon and night. They are the ones who cherish you, who love you, who you make the biggest impact on. And if you don't show up, they're the ones who are going to feel it. You know what? It's. It's not so obvious, is it? It's not so obvious. It can get sneaky. We can be working so hard to make an impact on people that don't even care when there they are. The lives that God has entrusted to you wait on you to show up in your full power and your full authority and in the fullness of the glory that God has placed on you. Receive it. Show up, be everything. And don't be fooled. Don't be fooled by thinking just because you're facing forward at the theater and you're seeing all the lights that that's where the impact is. Nope. It's right behind you, sneaking up all the time. I love you. I cherish you. No. I pray over you and I got your back. I love you, mama. Keep on tuning in and we're gonna conquer this life together.
